the end of the book tom dies and i wouldnt have liked to watch that i think annie should have stayed with him personally going back to her hubby when she didnt love him was a copout but hey lots of women live in loveless marriages who am i to judge. loved the movie never read the book

Plus another thing that I didn't get about the movie was if Gulliver (Judith's horse) couldn't walk up the hill then why did they take a short cut?? lol I mean that is the only thing I never got about that part in the movie

Ok armygal,I haven't read the book in awhile and still no matter how many times i read it,I just still don't understnad sometimes why would you take a short cut when you know it's slick out and the horse can't get up the hill.

@krazyhorse10 they actually didnt know it was that slick until judith got about 3 feet from the top thats when she told grace not to come up. but in the movie idk why it doesnt follow the book. judith was the older so she went first to make sure it was safe and as soon as she got that high she realized it wasnt safe and it was to late.

I get this horse magazine that I read alot and One of them from past fall in 08 I saw about the horse that played pilgram his real name was High Tower and he passed away in October 2008 from natural Causes!. And he also played Ginger in the Wanrer Brothers Black Beauty..It's not a joke!. I didnt' know tha tuntill I read about it!..plus he played in the Priness Dires 2. R.I.P High Tower.

just so you guys no horses do get traumatized by one bad experience my horse was being loaded onto our float by my cousin and she tied her my horse reared up and fell backwards and fractured her wither(sp) she hasnt gone near a float since she will only go on trucks

i pony skidded into a large log, slipped, fell into a ditch, got caught in wire and somehow got out ok.... Since she has been terrified of that log, she wont jump it. and shes not a spooky pony. One day, i rode out alone, i tried the jump and she stopped....... i wont tell you how as it is my training secret that works awesomely on her but i got her over it. No whip, no spus, no anger. And now, she jumps it like a dream, shes forgotten her accident and she working hard for me.

no it's not a real stoty!! it's based on some true stories but everyone who knows a bit bout horses can tell you that stroies like that don't happen (horses don't get traumatised by one event and even if thyy would it would takes much longer to recover)

The film is actually based on the BOOK by Nicholas Evans - in which the events are spread over a much longer time anyway.

Although, I think being hit by a truck that size, and being 'abandoned' by your owner as the horse sees it - would be enough to traumatize a horse beyond beleif ;)

I much reccomend the book, but it is far more emotional that the film

I read the book and it shows the story much better then movie. In the book Pilgrim is treated really badly for months after the accident by vets and stable boys and becoming more and more crazy. This is much more realistic. Also recovery is showed better in the book cause it is long term and gradual, in the movie it looks far to quick (the whole last scene when Gracie rides the first time).

Yeah, I agree. The book makes me cry most of the way though, the film... doesn't really show much that well, it never goes into enough detail. I especially wish they'd ended it like the book...

Romantic, equestrian propaganda! Why do movies like this almost always feature kids from affluent backgrounds riding about on 50 grand thoroughbreds. I wonder if there are any film-makers out there with guts enough to make a movie about a Clydesdale or a piebald cob! Humility, unfortunately, is not one of Mr Redford's strong points.
