Does anyone know where I can find english subbed tamers episodes? The dub gets to me...especially the english script writer's tendency to constantly insert horrible joke dialogue.
I prefer the english dub it just makes the scene all the more dramatic. Why is it Leomon has to die in every season. He's so awesome! Also prefer Derek Stephen Prince and Paul St Peter's takes on Beelzemon and Leomon. They are some of the best english dub voice actors in the anime industry. Also Rika's voice actress Melissa Fahn was in Cowboy Bebop and Invader Zim.
i just noticed something. when Beezlebumon (correct me if im wrong) is beating up Kyubimon, in english all i hear is Beezlebumon grunting, thats it. Yet in Japanese you hear his hits landing
@hinaruto14 I noticed that too. Probably the English editors took out the sound effects because it was considered "too violent" by the censors. Ironic, seeing that they will let a main character being killed off be shown, but they consider punches one step too far.
Well, that's Leomon's personality, and that was not the first time he talked about fate. His words in the original were important because Juri is afraid she may lose her loved ones because of fate, and how she can't run away from it. Her mother died "because of fate", too.
D-Reaper took advantage of this and made Juri relive the worst times of her live so it would feed on her grief.
The dub dialogue is, IMHO, boring. It's just made to sound pretty.
I actually think the dub is better it shows more emotion and even in the whole series the dub characters of Takato, Henry and Rika at least are more lovable than the subbed versions
The dub DID do pretty well in portraying the death of Leomon. I see no reason why people think it was dulled down. It had a saddening, surprising impression that worked JUST AS WELL, if not, slightly BETTER than the original, due to the dub actually giving FINAL WORDS to Jeri.
I think there are just some hardcore dub-haters here tryin to overbash English dubbing. I seriously get ticked off at people like those.
I like the english Version better, the writing isn't bad at all, and the japanese version lacked the 'goodbye' that makes it even sadder. When loemon said goodbye to Jeri and told her to be stong in the english dub it made me cry harder.
@pokeEUReKA The weird part is that-even with past seasons having moments that were quite powerful in the dub on their own-this was the point where the Digimon franchise could truly stand on its own in English (sans the person who voiced Suzie, but she wasn't a huge focus in the show anyway.) So it's really a matter of preference by this point. But I agree about the goodbye being more effective in the English dub, as it's more in-tune with who Leomon is as a character.

@GilgameshSlicer The English version is the one lacking emotion... Not to mention the "fate" stuff he said was a big part of Juri's depression, but in the English version he doesn't even say it.
@Ixbran Actually I think that was whole point of it. I mean, Impmon wasn't smart at all and he was given all that power that he misused carelessly. Either way, Beelzemon kicks ass.

@Ixbran It's the writing in the dubs that is bad, not the acting. I think all the VAs in the dubs are decent, just not the dialogue they're spewing. Oh, and I hate the music in the English dub too.
@Ixbran Beelzemon having a Brooklyn accent is equivalent to Professor Layton speaking Japanese as an Englishman. The accent he was given for the dub is probably the closest to what we can associate to a punk, but the Japanese voice does an awesome job as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the voice then, and I still enjoy it now, both English and Japanese.
The Japanese version has appropriate music that isn't ear-rape, so yeah. Oh, and Jeri's anguish from Leomon isn't linked to her mother in the dub.
@Ixbran Well my friend Beelzebumon is not a mobster the dub played his charcter poorly why would a monster that live in japan have a brooklyn accent and speak like that to japanese kids, also his english voice actor doesnt try to sound good hes the one that makes him sound like a muscle head on the other hand Hiroki Takahashi plays Impmon wonderfuly he can sound cute, act tough, and make a verity of voices his Beelzebumon voice is perfect.
@desdar100 The brooklyn dub was perfect, it gave him character and life, setting himself differently from the other run of the mill characters you tend to see, it was different.I think it showed how satirical impmon's character really was.
@DevilKadams Well the character all ready had life, but I see your point its just that why would a monster in Japan have a accent does the english version of this anime even mention that this took place in Japan.
@Ixbran Nothing against dub voices, except they still didn't bother changing the music to something authentic and breathless (next season atleast THEY GAVE AN ORIGINAL, EPIC THEME *clap claps*)
@Ixbran while to me his brooklyn accent makes him seem more like a mook, i can't disagree that it sounds rather fitting for him. i do kinda have preferences for the japanese dub but beelzemon sounds good either way honestly

Sugarcoat all you want, the Japanese one makes more sense in the whole context. Well, since this dub isn't the dub from my country I could care less about it anyway.
This is a good episode, but it's one of my least favorites, because of Beelzemon killing Leomon and Takato making Guilmon digivolve into an evil digimon.
@phoniexkai People typically get used to the voices, and even though I like the original version of most of the digimon series. The tamer saga was bad, The dub version had much more emotion and more of a human side than the original japanese version. Which is rare for a dubbed anime, since its usually the other way around.
@AsakuraMyahle How can you say that? The original version was horrible, her partner is destroyed and all he can say to her is "This might be my fate" No wonder Jeri was so depressed during the last part of the series, that kind of combination can have a warped effect on a fragile mind like hers. The english version at least gives her some comfort, even if she didnt realize it right away "Be brave Jeri, part of me will always be with you. Rmember, you have a loins heart". That line is much better
@GilgameshSlicer For the kids, I agree with you. But it doesn't matter if the english line is "better" about make it easy to take, the REAL story/message was that showed by the japanese one. That wasn't horrible, that was the TRUE intention of the writers, since Jeri STILL being a sad/depressed girl throughout the anime.
@GilgameshSlicer The original version wasn't horrible. Leomon's final words in the original were important to Juri's development, and even to the plot(and fit his character), while what he said in the dub is only meant to sound good and emotive(though I find it kind of cheesy, mainly because it's pointless)
@HwoarangChaolan i mean how was his words more importaint to the plot and jerry/juri's development in the japanese version all he did was state the obvious "this may be my fate" oo really leomon you have a freaking hole in your stomach and you disentergrating as we speak and your last words are "this may be my fate." I mean way to waste your last words by stating the obvious but hey some ppl do prefer the obivious instead of powerful words bc they just love the orginal so much
@GilgameshSlicer How can you say tthis? Jen became depressed till the end when she realized that what Leomon meant that faith is something you make by yourself. She missunderstod this sentence and became even more weak so that d-reaper could use her. It is very deep what happens in the original. Sure it isn't very nice what happens, but I think it is better stracted than turning this sagnificant scene into a tearful, joyful sad scene.
@TsukentoX No, it really doesn't. Jeri goes into depression because she made a vow not to love anyone again after her mother died, breaks it with Leomon and then sees him die in front of her eyes too. This isn't triggered by a line, it's triggered by a sense of guilt coupled with a second loss. Grief like this isn't out of the ordinary.
Also, the dub repeats the line, "a part of [her] will always be with [us]" in the flashback to Jeri's mother's death, so it still works. >_>
@GilgameshSlicer Yeah...but it also makes less sense. As JesuOtaku pointed out in her review of the tamers series, the whole "This was my fate..." line was used to tie into the death of Jeri/Juri's mother, since her father and the doctors both told her that it was her mother's fate to die as well. This is why in her freak out scene later on she keeps hearing everyone saying "destiny", since in the original it's made clear that she believes it's the fate of people she loves to get hurt or killed.
