Nope. Nothing touches the rim. The pressure is applied to the tire based on the tension you put on the resistance device with a screw. I guess if the tire went totally flat it could touch but I'm pretty sure you would notice.
I don't see a geometric problem with putting a crossbike on the trainer. I've done it with my cross bike with road tires. I would recommend a trainer tire because the resistance unit heats up and between the compression of the tire and the heat regular tires tend to get damaged and occasionally blow.
Can you hook up a cross bike to one of these machines? My tires are fairly smooth on the riding surface with a bit of aggressive pattern to the side of the tires?
Thanks for your reply! I went ahead and purchased this model I was very impressed with the quality and the noise level wasn't bab at all. I think the only concern I have with the Mag 6 is the amount of heat generated from the system. After a 45 minute ride the housing (which is plastic) is extremely warm!..The Mag 6 comes with a lifetime warranty, which is a plus!...Over all, I'm happy with my purchase and appreciate your video...thanks!
@MGRodriguez1 Of the two trainers that I've used, this is the better trainer. It has a large amount of reliable, consistent resistance available. When doing harder workouts it has the thumb switch to give you a wider range of resistance and this is effective in providing a workout experience where you don't even notice the trainer. It seems to be sturdy and partially folds to make it a bit more compact. It's inexpensive and provides good value. Give it a try!
I see nothing in the manual or spec sheet that covers this. Thy're definitely designed for road bikes, though. 650 and 700 are the most common sizes. Call the manufacturer if you're in doubt.
Yes. I do know what you mean. My Cervelo is like a glove. Just always wonder if I'm getting the best training outdoors if my bike is so light. If I do the same distance on a heavier bike that has a similar fit and I go the same distance, just think I get a better workout. (also drag slightly as a factor)
@lzebed You will need a smooth tire. Thre are actually heat-resistant trainer tires that most people use for trainer riding only. These trainers are really designed for road bikes.
Working with the Ultra still and I see what you meant. It grabs at times...since the resistance is really based on your speed. I have a cheap trainer wheel but, might upgrade to my wheel and a trainer tire...(figure it's only money, especially what both of us have invested in bikes so far) I have a Cervelo as well and a much less expensive heavier back up bike for knocking around. What do you think of training on a heavier bike with similar fit...sort of like a doughnut whilst on deck in BB
@sawink Hi! I think it's fine to train on a heavier bike. The issue there is that my better bike is better fitted to me and that makes the training more specific and more comfortable. For example, I have a cross bike that I use for errands and on the road in the spring when it's gravel-y and more dangerous. That bike is fitted to me but the Cervelo is fitted *better*. Know what I mean?

So, what is your over all rating of the Blackburn Tech Mag 6? Does it perform well, is it what you expected, pros and cons?

Is there a specific size wheel you have to use?

My favorite time to ride my bike outside is during winter in the ice, snow and cold.

@sawink the ultra is definitely quieter. I preferred it but it stopped working for me so I replaced it with the tech mag 3. Good luck with yours!
