My first time to trip DMT was to this song..when I first took the hit and blasted off, I immediately began to look around to try to suck all could out of the experience before my experienced buddy told me to "sit back, close your eyes..the visuals are breath taking" I did and when I felt content I opened my eyes to see my two beautiful friends LED hooping to the music and it was bliss. I listen to this song often to reminisce on the 15 minute experience that changed my life
@butterflyslice took 5 hits of lsd for the first time and a good friend had me experience this album/the flaming lips for the first time - it changed my life.
I feel like this song is about tripping at night simply, and then seeing the sunrise i experinced this a few times, and at the end of your trip your not totaly gone and you can think, what is love and hate? what is anything? nothing matters right now, you are just at bliss the state of nothing, total relaxation to absorb the world around you, when your brain is at complete rest, then it becomes the sponge to soak up the beautiful world around you.
ive tripped to this i almost cried it was soooooo beautiful no joke i was about in tears of its shear beauty and relaxation i was just like these guys get it!
How would you possibly know that? "A good song to listen to while you commit suicide".?
Oh OK, I wasn't really going to bother, but if you put it like this, it really is a great time to end it all. Hang on, I'll just wash these down, and get my straight Razor.
File under "Stupid shit I'm never going to say again".
@arinross523 I feel like that's going a little bit too far. Dark Side Of The Moon is sort of untouchable. But this is a damn good competitor. And OK Computer.
@primus328 rite, I mean there may never be another album which is on the level of The Dark Side of The Moon, but as far as the past twenty years are concerned, this FL album posesses that evocative quality which Pink Floyd hits over and over. But Radiohead are the kings, I was born in 84 and they are the true musical magicians since I've beena live
@arinross523 I agree. I spent a lot of my teens listening to OK Computer. I didn't get turned on to this album until my early 20. However, Those two albums are definitely on my top fav list.
my favorite song by TFL. Awe-inspiring and beautiful are the only words in the English language that come close to describing it. Love the synth, very mysterious.
This is it! I was introduced to the Flaming Lips by way of this song. I could never remember what the song was called, all I remember is that it was an amazing song and I HAD to drop whatever I was doing at the time and...just listen.
I'm glad I found it again. Thank you so much for uploading it.
"As the dawn began to break, i had to surrender. The universe will have it's way, to powerful to master." meaning this life has much more power than the power you possess or sometimes it seems that way, that you may never get everything you want out of this life, this gloryful life.
good art cost money. wayne is not rich by any stretch of the imagination so buy their shit if you want to be a part of something as beautiful as the flaming lips. plain and simple these guys have families and they eat real food like you and me so support them !
I encourage everyone to actually BUY flaming lips stuff. These guys are awesome and they got COMPLETELY FUCKED by early P2P downloading. This was their breakout album and they didn't see a cent for it, thats why these songs pop up on car commercials from time to time. But seriously these guys probably had ten albums downloaded for every one they sold. We are enjoying this for free im sure from their perspective this album which contains an insane amount of mixing and editing, wasn't worth it .
@funkmonkey333 Im all for buying Flaming Lips stuff, shit I got alot, but really these guys aint hurting for money. This album they didn't get a cent for has gone Gold. The car commercial stuff, they donate all the money to charity. Shit I mean they spent $10,000 on fucking balloons for New Years. There doing alright I think we should learn to care less about money and just concentrate on the the love that's another lesson the Flaming Lips like to preach.
@ 302 likes and 3 dislikes... this video has a 99% sucess rating lol. and by the way... those 3 ppl dont know anything about great music. very mesmorizing tune and majestical lyrics. love the lips.
Cenral Park, N.Y.C.,on thee most beautiful night of the summer, w/ full moon on the rise , crickets chirping, you could hear a pin drop, and the Flaming Lips doing this song , was incredibly beautiful. The moody keyboard blending into the acoustic guitar and Wayne's heart felt lyrics and vocal styling was mind - boggling, melting into the moment of the summer night. An all-time classic concert memory. It overtakes me! Thankyou universe for the Flaming Lips!
@1225grl This song rocks my mind like a drug! I wanna take the record break it into 2 peices, then take one half grind it into a fine powder, snort it like cocain. Then take the other half melt it into a liquid then inject it into my veins. All while listening to this album in the backround!
This album melted my brain the first time I heard it, just me and my best friend in an ambient room, furniture thrown around (rearranging half done) and stuffed animals absolutely everywhere. It was one of the best experiences ever, one in the morning, in that tranquil sleepy state with Yoshimi, it was amazing.
i really like the intro part. its so trippy! does anyone know where i can get a remix with just that part? cause i would really love listening to it while i'm longboarding
I think this song's about magic mushrooms. That's what the title means. 'Cause I listened to this song watching the sun rise after a night of trippin'. And I swear it was life changing. You just have all of those thoughts running through your head, you can't really remember what happened. But, you just learn to let go, and just exist. Just live. Why does it matter? The universe is too powerful to master. I don't care if the song isn't about that. I like to have my own interpretations on things.
@cm5891 That wasn't my impression. I don't want to start anything, just want to offer my opinion. The song talks about the "morning", perhaps the dawning of civilization and you really get the image of peaceful animals in a field or by a river. "What is love and what is hate?" draws into question the higher social constructs of human beings. "The universe will have it's way/too powerful to master" like maybe humans were destined to evolve into socially complex and haunted creatures.
@rynox77 It's an interesting interpretation. I like it. The best part about opinions are they can neither be right nor wrong. It's a great song. That's one thing we can agree on. But considering the Flaming Lips do things like drop acid, eat mushrooms, and smoke weed, we can't ignore the influence of drugs on their music and lyrics. Plus there is no mention of a field of animals, or social order. The song is in the first person, what he experienced. (While maybe trippin' on mushrooms).
man, i haven't listened to this in years, but it really is amazing!
it's bringing back all the memories of being completely obsessed with this album when it was released. just ordered this and 'the soft bulletin' on CD, both less than a fiver!
After WW2 these two guys wrote a book called The Morning Of the Magicians which was about Nazi cults and supernatural power and apparently if you could unite all the forces of nature into one amoral entity and control that power than you would rule the world. So maybe this song is speculating on an alternate present in which this has happened.
I think the the robot represents the two paths of life , the pink side represents the more loving , natural , artistic , positive way of life and the robotic side represents the more corporate, tough, technological , status quo way of life and the fact that shes battling it means that yoshimi is confronted with all these insanely difficult questions and life choices all of a sudden .Even tho she is scared she must in the end make the final decision .......... or maybe im just way to high! XD
One of their best songs out of a huge catalog of really great stuff. The Flaming Lips really hooked me once Steve Drozd expanded beyond drums and started playing guitar and keyboard on their records.
I love this song. For some reason, this song makes me picture a blue skies perfect temperature afternoon and relaxing in my room. For me, this song makes me feel good because I tend to get worried about life and love and the message I get from this song is to calm down and take life as it comes. I hope t his makes sense.
well done.

XD

I'm seeing them live today. Very excited, considering they're awesome and it's my first big concert. :)

Was your life changed? They were my first concert and my life has changed in so many ways since that one August night last year!

One of their best songs out of a huge catalog of really great stuff. The Flaming Lips really hooked me once Steve Drozd expanded beyond drums and started playing guitar and keyboard on their records.

the best song to listen at a beach trying to figure out where does the ocean becomes the sky and the heavy sun shining bright upon the sand

I love this song. For some reason, this song makes me picture a blue skies perfect temperature afternoon and relaxing in my room. For me, this song makes me feel good because I tend to get worried about life and love and the message I get from this song is to calm down and take life as it comes. I hope t his makes sense.
