They basically made the version that Gearbox finished and are releasing. Gearbox bought a nearly finished game and then finished and polished it until it was retail worthy, and 3D Realms are also credited in the trailer, more than likely for that reason as copyright and intellectual rights belong to Gearbox and 2K Games.
