  • Am I the only person watching this that sees a resemblance from today's metal and Donovan's songs? Pretty epic if you ask me.

  • Must of been high if he was prepared to go on television wearing that thing.

  • He should get a compilation of his old songs and title it "High of weed" so he could get my teenage Vote!!!!

  • was i the only one who laughed my ass off at 5:44 - 6:06 , i was kinna sleeping when i heard that background , OMG ..

  • 5:28 splo-t-t-ch

  • @ maggieskaggs - Yes, it does seem that Evil is winning. Unfortunately, the biggest Court/Prison/Industrial Complex in the World requires a LOT of fodder.

  • Holy Hell Thats a nice guitar

  • It looks and sounds like he just came around from India... I just love his music!

  • I looks and sounds like he just came around from India ;-)

  • The Second Song Is Epic

  • We were innocent enough to believe in the altruisms we were taught by our parents and teachers. The seeds of this country's history began to grow into action in the 60's. That is why we got rid of Jim Crow laws and gained forward thinking.

  • As of 29/3/11, three people are complete idiots.

  • There was always something special about Donovan. With or without Mickey Most. He seems to stumble from time to time. I hope to hear more great art from Donovan.

He needs to be surrounded by talented people, and supported by the best.

  • Legend!!!! Still right up there in 2011. Beautiful voice and spirit.

  • @9999norton - I completely agree! :-)

  • @maggieskaggs - sorry to let you down, but what you're describing isn't reality but how you remember your youth. There never was a hippie paradise in the 60's or 70's, actually the hippie paradise is a lot closer to being realized today. No Jim Crowe laws, Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday is a national holiday and womans rights (while they're not there yet) have improved so much in the west since then.

About the negativity - it's the internet. Everone has access. Which I think is a good thing.

  • @peterhansenism No, of course it wasn't *paradise*, and you're right that we have more freedom today, at least in some ways.

I think what some here are talking about and missing was a kind of innocence and optimism that seems to have gone. It's not just that we were young and so innocent. I don't see that kind of hope among many young people today, and that makes me a little sad.

  • 93,000 views-that's a statement in itself-keep the message going-the ideas created in the past are not stuck there-they're here now

  • this is magnificent x if only people could stop looking at their wallets for a second maybe they could actually hear real music x and still has the charm saw him on gmtv the other morning two words- lovely fella!

  • whoever you r I am glad to be her with you right now enjoying him!!!!!

  • made me cry...

  • This is lovely! Thanks so much for posting.

  • Real music. Back in the 60s the music producers let the artists write and sing what they wanted to, versus today, where the producers TELL the artists what to sing and what to do and how to dress. Pitiful. We want our real music back, thank you Donovan for the memories.

  • Yes Maggie, probably I was born a little bit after you, even in 1970 things were beginning to change (for the worse), and now what can we say about our world... I've seen Donovan Leitch three times (the "electric" 1974 show was really different) and I was "move" every time...

  • Thanks Hilton1949 for posting this -- I'm only familiar with "Mellow Yellow", but the other songs were great too, especially Cosmic Wheels. I think he influenced a lot of people especially Syd Barrett, T Rex and early David Bowie. Even if many folkies probably didn't take him seriously because of his forays into pop and psychedelia, I think that's his strength -- he can pull of ballads and acid rock equally well. And as a few others pointed out, he radiates happiness and Celtic charm.

  • hehe he's wearing pajamas

  • Donovan is one of our "great gods" as Eric Burdon once said. They did a nice job remastering and re releasing his 70's CD a few years ago. Very good stuff. By the way I agree with you maggie!

  • This dude is on crack.

  • He's high on music!

  • Boots of Steel v. Cosmic Wheels. The dude's saying we should be partying on the rings of Saturn by now...

  • This is such a fab concert - he is as previous people said a ray of sunshine and so exhudes happiness when he performs - i just can never understand why the audience arent more emotive and join in - he's always trying to encourage them and they take ages to drag themselves to sing along - I would have been singing me little heart out if I'd been there!! peace x

  • Donovan was not a one hit wonder!! He was bigger than life and well as for me, I say hail to the 60's!! So glad to be part of the greatest generation ever!! Donovan is still touring so catch the wind and go see his show if you can. Someone please bring back these cool hippie clothes, a time in life never to be forgotten by me. My lover is my so hippie Hurdy Gurdy Man forever, I Love You Baby;-)

  • He messed up at 1:39. He said "sky-way" instead on "hi-way" on the stumbling phrase.

  • @TheSassydaddy ...skyway totally works better!...

  • Awesome performance!!!! 5*!!!!

  • I agree bigtraum1 ...a big WTF to this guy and his peeing on the tree song. I looked him up after hearing 'Catch the Wind' which is brilliant. I guess I havemt heard about this guy because he was a one-hit wonder?

  • @Mrsoccernurse Are you for real? Donovan had loads of hits for about 10 years.

  • @Jackytheclarinet - He had hits for longer than 10 years but he was a super superstar from the mid-60s to the mid-70s or so. It's unbelievable to me that young people don't KNOW that.

  • Hey Mrsoccernurse,Donovan was not a one hit wonder. You must be very young. He had many hits and had a cult following. Peace!

  • Donovan, a one hit wonder? ah ah ah , he is, IMO, the most underrated artist of the 20th Century. He's brilliant. Look him up online or download his greatest hits collection "Troubadour" and then tell me if you keep that opinion

  • what, the, hell... what kind of drugs do u have 2 be on 2 come up with a song with dog barking in it... woof woof woof woof ??? glad i wasnt around in the 70's

  • @bigtraum1 he went to india to learn transcendental mediation at maharishi masesh yogi,s ashram same time as the beatles . they 2 surviving beatles and donavon dd a gig for the david lynch foundation not long ago . he looked cool and did a version of Hurdy Gurdy man with a verse George wrote but was not recorced in the origanal . peace and love as Ringo says

  • Google "Donovan Unofficial"

    What a fantastic site!

  • 70 years in the great singer, songwriter Donavan sang the song Atlantis The Missing Continent today after 2010 years in the fight for the Planet Earth does not disappear as well, motivated by the actions of man himself, causing global warming and help save the little what remains of Nature and Life.

  • I gave this album to a very dear friend.... Ruth? could the web have meaning?

  • wow it seems like the crowd isnt byin it but kk

  • he's a fruitcake

  • a cosmic fruitcake

  • dont think so, hes had loads of birds.

  • what do you mean, like, gay guys?

  • what kind of afination is this? how can i play this?

  • ce sont des sons indiens

  • les années soixantes étaient très influencés par les indiens.

  • A artiz

  • That must have been really good LSD.

  • great tshirt jajaja thanks

  • can anyone help me out whats the frist song he plays at the start

  • Cosmic Wheels

  • Its called "Cosmic Wheels" from the album "Cosmic Wheels", it came out in 1973.

  • cosmic wheels

  • Cosmic Wheels

  • Donovan. Was just another troubador.

    Plying his trade..

  • Donovan was ahead of his time.

  • Dear friend...........many thanks for posting...MAGNIFICENT*****

    Peace....Manni

  • great album...played it to death in the early 70,s..after it the hippies lost it...

  • The thing I love most about Donovan isn't his music, which I do enjoy. It's the way that whenever I see him in a concert, he looks like he's just so adorably excited to be alive. It's so heartening.

  • I want to give this comment 100 thumbs up, Aervane.

  • Hahahaha, thank you!

  • @Aervane I'd love to see Donovan live! Maybe someday...

  • I wish I could have been at this concert. I would've loved to hear The Pee Song and Mellow Yellow live :)

  • what a great voice... and how cool is the stage format... kick off your shoes, bring up a few acoustic guitars... I was born one decade too late (1966) I think...

  • Donovan is playing here a Guild 12-string guitar. The unaccompanied playing highlights the original chord progressions. The first 2 songs come from the great Cosmic Wheels album. The Pee Song comes from HMV Donovan.

  • He is so freaking pretty. Music ain't bad either. =P

  • I love Donovan and what the good things of the 60's he's seemed to be able to capture.

I wish things were more free and open the way they used to be. Everyone was really groovy and if you wanted to wear a pretty shirt with stars and planets on it, no one would say you looked silly. There is so much negativity and cynicism pervading our society now. I think the hippies were really on to a good thing. It's too bad it didn't turn out better, it seems evil won yet again.

  • only for a time will evil reign. earthling fellow

  • hit it on the head, fucking right

  • @maggieskaggs Sorry, that didn't work. I'm "Post" challenged. Maggie, we're still out here enjoying the freedom of mind we had back then, even though occasionally we've had to don the PC attire for sustenance...and we can still be seen wearing our tie die shirts, bluejeans and leather sandals (why waste the cow's skin?). Your only real freedom is in your mind and they can't take that away from you. I still have my sense of humor...had to pull out the guitar and learn The Pee Song!! Peace!!!

  • @maggieskaggs It was a truly wonderful time to be young. We really did believe that all you needed was love and the music and musicians kept us connected and kept the dream alive. It may seem corny, but as Elvis Costello asked "What's so funny about peace, love and understanding?"

I'll take the beatiful vibes and philosophy from the 60's over the dark, violent hate-filled message of much of today's entertainment (which I don't call music) like (c)rap/hip hop etc..it's such a shame

  • @maggieskaggs

We were on the verge of a new renaissance. There was so much good in the air, people were reading great literature, there was an intellectual ferment, a positivism that was truly inspiring. And then first the drugs came in but still there was a positivism there...but then everyone turned away and the stupid people, the incurious morons, bad tempered arrogant swine that wanted cocaine, and disco and cheaply made gaudy finery and big crappy cars took over and it all went bad.

  • @Cadmium77 took the words right out of my mouth.

  • @maggieskaggs A vert nice comment from someone so young as you.

  • @maggieskaggs

You are so right, I feel very blessed to have been able to grow up during that AMAZING time. :D

  • what are the chords to the pee song?

  • nice voice!

  • YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH DONOVAN'S PJs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • glooryboy69 and littlerivernerd - You don't seem to realise that that way of dressing was the height of fashion back then. Donovan was always in style.

  • Cosmic wheels: purple microdot, orange sunshine, window pain? ha ha Great post; i've never seen this!

  • is donovan the poor man's bob dylan?

no really, I'm just joking, I like him!

  • I know what you mean. A Ziggy Stardust/Dylan hybrid.

  • scarymary13 - Donovan was around BEFORE Ziggy Stardust. There's no hybrid about him. He's his own creation.

  • drop d

  • you sure it drop d? it sounds like something else. im not trying to call you on it or anything im trying to learn it

  • Is it just standard tuning? I"m thinking it may be, now that I've watched it a couple of times.

  • drop d

  • Does anyone know what tuning his 12-string is in? I'm guessing DADGAD? Or maybe an open C?

  • open something.

  • im trying to find a song callled gypsy rock and roll for a other utuber can any1 help me

  • I guess I'm just old:)

    I watched this.

  • does he remind anyone else of a hobbit from the Lord of the Rings hear?

  • ty for the upload, that was a great performance.Soundstage is right, but thats just what kind of performer he was.

  • dude, how high is he?

  • not smack...he trippin'

  • The stereo and regular version of Cosmic Wheels and Maria Magenta SUCKS. Donovan is my favorite solo artist, but I wish the versions of the songs he plays in this video would be available for purchase. He's best with just his voice and his acoustic guitar. The recording of Cosmic Wheels is like...techno 0_o

  • how about the other 2 after that?

  • it says in the description. first is cosmic wheels, then maria magenta. then the pee song, then mellow yellow. =]

  • is there a name to this great song??

  • Cosmic wheels

  • You don't play football do you?

  • Maybe you're part Irish.

  • So..I was born in Feb..1973..My first name is Donovan....Wonder how my mom came up with that?

Not that I'm bitchin...the name is pretty original

  • great name. i was born on sept 22nd great crazy year. donovan rocks

  • FANTASTIC wordless intro - wish Donovan would develop that into something bigger.

  • I want his shirt.

  • i love this video

    bby Di

  • Tremendous.

  • Cool

  • this dono-rocks!

  • I watch you when you pee, when you wee.

  • when I heard it I laffed until I peed myself.

    Teeheehee!!!

  • Thank you for posting. It was really good to watch & Listen.

  • Cool vid! But why is Dono wearing his jammies to the show??

  • they were fashionable then

  • always liked this guy! even when the shift in musical idioms happened over the years, i never lost sight of Donovan's music. somehow it is dated and yet transcends throughout time.

  • who is meline ?

  • the first time I heard the pee song I started laughed so har i cried

  • no, he's mine mozzaliciousXX! lol! but i'd share...haha!

  • Timeless. Alone or with other musicians, he rocks and gives outstanding performances. He's got a great sense of humor, and that mixed with his more serious philosophical side, he's absolutely transcendental. Thank you sooooo much for posting this!

  • Indeed,

not only are his music and lyrics outstanding, the way he sings and pronounces the english language are music to my ears.

A great musician and rarely seen artist!

  • i love donovan hes adorable and such a sped ugh id marry him

  • awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • no thannks

  • no thanks
