  • heey renic, just started watching your videos, im a cody player too trying to keep on leveling up my skill as well. right now im around 4k-5k ranged. but lately have been totally at the point where im just floating at that level range just waiting to level up. hopefully i can learn things from how others are starting and trying to get better too.

  • just throw out some more cr. lk's because they option select into medium heavy ruffian and criminal uppers and dont forget anything tanden u can jump

  • something that does come in handy, as long as you learn not to abuse it too much, is using zonk knuckles to get around fire balls. its a great way to get out of fire ball chip and allows you to move forward without having to deal with a upper cut after a jump in. another thing that you can do to change up things is after you knock your opponent down jump in, just as they are barely getting up, with a light punch, blocked or not, you can go for a tech grab and most opponents won't expect it

  • I must say your Cody has help mine out a lot and like another person said in a comment below Anti-Air HK Ruffian Kick into MK Ruffian Kick works nice too. Also I'm not sure whether or not you need the focus if you use it as an anti-air but HK Ruffian Kick FADC into forward HK + EX Criminal Upper works as well.

  • Renic Bro, you're gonna have to learn to move forward as opposed to jumping in. Practice matches in endless with random people and DO NOT jump an entire round or even match! Then you'll get the jest of progressing without being predictable. Once you do that, your pressure game with evolve. I promise you that.

  • ReNiC - really enjoying the series.  Recently came back to SF and by coincidence also picked up Cody (well, and Hakan) so I am getting a lot of great info from these vids. Keep it up!

  • Just want to say props on doing this series. It's really interesting to see how someone transitions from being really good in one game to learning another. Nice analysis of what you've been working, what you need to work on and all without a lot of ego.

  • One of the very very foundamental since street fighter 4 is that you really have to jump only when it is safe and maybe in other rare occasions, street fighter is designed so that almost every character have great anti air moves, so don't jump over and when someone keeps doing it to you, like this Sagat, use H.ruffian (you need to react fast as I think it starts in 7/8 frame), or b.mp, even st.roundhouse is a great anti air for Cody, use them, do not allow anyone to jump on you

  • that seth was horrible...he mashed everything on wakeup and like the comment below me said the vaccum move is unsafe and you can just jump when u read it coming. you don't want to let seth pressure u cause he can thick throw his SPD like geif easily.

  • Seth's suction/vacuum move is jumpable. If you can read when they're gonna do the move, you can jump forward at him and punish with a huge combo. For example, that seth you played against liked doing a blockstring into vacuum, so after his last normal, just hold upforward and his vacuum should come out and whiff while you jump at him and body him. :)

  • good shiz as always renic. couple quick things on codys aa game; standing back mp if they are jumping in directly on top of u. it will at least trade in alot of situations. qcf+rh for a little farther out, and standing rh for a far jump in. good series, keep it going

  • At 8.17, that situation gives you a safe jump, hold up, nj.FP. Works on 5framers like Seth at least, maybe 4f, not entirely sure. This does mean that you stay in the corner, but it's still a decent option.

  • walk up ex zonk is my favorite setup into fadc ultra 1 .. If u catch someone jumping in with high ruffian kick (vs guy) u can follow up with medium ruffian .. #teamcodyftw =]

  • for cody against honda you can punish a blocked headbutt with medium version of ruffian kick

  • One good thing you can do on people on wake up is meaty EX criminal upper. Theres alot of situation cody can use both his ultra 2 or criminal upper for chiping and meaty purpouses. And trust me! Its worth the meater. He is a little bit kinda like Sakura. Both of those chars have situations when they can chip ALOT and safely without concequenses.

  • A great option to use after Cody's kinda hop kick, (forward roundhouse I think), you can do an easy, great link that doesn't cost any meter. You can go ahead and do the forward slide kick, not sure if EX Criminal Upper does more or not but it's a great option if you don't have any meter or don't want to use it.

    Also, crouching fierce has slightly longer range than standing fierce when doing combos, so if you think that stand fierce won't be close enough, go ahead and use the crouching version.

  • Best combo to know with Cody is cr.lp>cl.mp>cr.hp. Everything you can punish with a close cr.lp you can convert in massive damage and stun. Also going into a cr.lp from a jumpin, even crossover mk is much safer, although crossover mk>mentioned combo doesn't work on some characters(ken, akuma for instance). This way you can also combo into hk.ruffian and do even more ridiculous damage. Great example is doing this when blocking Cammy her spiral arrow. Might take a bit of practice tough.

  • A good "mixup" is to sometimes just emptyjump in and go straight to cr.lk xx CU, if you have meter you can do HP version and FADC if blocked otherwise lp because alot of people can hardly punish this, yes it's online, even still, it difficult too punish. if you do this, do it with the crouch tech into CU, because they can throw you out of your cr.lk, so it's some ensurance.

  • Some things you can do after a backthrow, although not a safejump is, walk a bit forward and make the crossup hard to see, you can do it also with an hp and hk, although it is difficult, but it will open people up.

  • a few things to point out: seth is actually positive (frame-wise) if you block his "suck-special" attack. the bad thing about that is that you have to start guessing what hes going to do next. (especially when he has 2 meters to SRK FADC)

    you do pretty good on your hitconfirms, maybe you should do the more damaging cr.mp cancel instead of cr.lk. it has less range but you dont need it if you can hitconfirm with 2 cr.lps.

    and: you still need to anti-air more! ;)

  • @aerosoljunkie It depends on the range that Seth does it from. From certain ranges it can even be unsafe. You just need to get a feel for it. God Seths WILL only do it from good ranges though.

  • cody, has alot of frame trab also, learn them and abuse them lol. forward hard kick in to ex uper cut or the Hold Punch, is very good as well for presure game

  • oh and also to keep that presure game with cody, try when u do c.lp 3 time, c.lk, uper cut. Fadc into grab OR do the combo again. and one strong thing about cody is the neutral jump. try doing more neutral jump. in general neutral jump is a good way to get out of situation. but cody`s neutral jump is pretty strong.

  • when your opponent is stunned with that much low health exemple : 6:32 do combo to get more meater, instaid of ultra.

  • If you know Seth is about to use his suction move, just just forward for a free combo.

  • I'm learning cody too. Coming from SSF2T, it's hard for me to wrap my head around using the focus attack.

  • when you see someone focus attack next to you, ultra immediately. ;]

  • @DeezMcNuggetz It's hard with cody, because his Ultra doesn't juggle, so if they mash backdash...which they most certainly will you catch them airborne VERY often and only the dust will hit.

  • my tip,,try not to jump too much. i have that problem but im getting out of it :)

  • Just a few tips on ultras, ultra 2 is also an anti-fireball ultra, and if you are confident enough about your combos and hit confirms with cody, you can combo into ultra 1 by doing roundhouse ruffian kick FADC ultra 1.

  • If a seth is getting really obvious as to when he uses his suck-special you can just jump over it and punish him for 30-40% damage meterless :P

  • I just found this out myself, but after a focus crumple, as they fall, if you do a lp Bad Stone, it brings them back up. I forget if you can follow it up or not, but yeah.

  • Good stuff man I'm a day 1 SSF4 Cody player myself and have been playing him sense. As of late I've only been playing UMVC3 though and haven't went back and tried out 2012 edition of ssf4 and it looks like I should.. Get my cody back on the road to victory. You play Cody a lot like myself. Cept I anti-air more :P haha

  • If you know someone like to mash japs during blockstrings, do a crouch lk into lp criminal upper after something like a blockstring thats ends with a lp criminal upper and that puts them pretty far away, cause cody has a 3 frame crouch lk(I think). Also, i've read somewhere you can get a good CH setup of a blocked FADC'd hp crim upper off of the first hit, haven't played cody in so long though, take all this with a grain of salt

  • Also, you can punish blocked headbutts with a reversal ultra 2.

  • The anti-air Ruffian Kick actually puts the opponent in a juggle state when it connects, so you can actually connect an mk.Ruffian afterwards.

  • You can do ultra 2 after ex zonk, only the dust will hit but it's really useful when you need that bit of damage at the end of a round, no fadc needed

    also you can do ex criminal upper after ex zong but it only works in the corner, nice damage too

  • if you get a good read (or guess lol) on guile and sagat fireball spammers you can use ex ruffian kick to get thru the fireballs

  • SOME GIMMICKS...

    After a cr mp xx lk ruffian... Do a forward RH *hop kick* into EX ZONK! It'll beat their throws!!! if you land in the corner, cody can follow up with ex CU or the Dust from U2 for the kill.

    After sweeps or throws... try empty jump into low short xx CU... MIND FUCK!

    8:45, Against seth... RIGHT after that throw... you had enough meter to cross up empty jump into ex zonk FADC ultra! ya you can FADC ex zonk remember that!

    FAKE ROCKS! fake rock after knock down, dash up throw!!!

  • If you have trouble with E.Ryu divekick and crossup shenanigans, wait till you encounter a nice Ibuki or Rufus...

  • Hey Renic. I've had more time to play since your last video and I can definitely feel the improvement. I'm still playing Chun Li. My main problem is stopping people once they've built up momentum. Chun's wakeup options are only okay, and most of the time blocking is better. So I usually get completely chewed up by someone like Balrog who's just constantly in my face with dash punches. I have been able to react to fireballs with ultra 1 now and I got my safe jump down. Anyways, thanks for the vid

  • if you antiair with a HK ruffian very high, you can do a MK ruffian without FADC.

  • Great show, I enjoy watching it a lot. Cody does have two true blockstrings. The first is close mp, c.lp, c.lp, c.lk and the other one is c.lp, c.lp, c.lp, c.lk. You gotta chain the c.lps though, and not link them. Another tip I have is to use ex CU after ex zonk in the corner. Noticed you did a few ex zonks there and didn't follow up. Easy combo that does a lot of damage.

  • Also, I think it's best to avoid finishing an opponent with Ultra, like you did with E. ryu. You probably could kill without it, but if you're not confident with your links then I guess it's ok. But the reason you souldn't kill with ultra is because you give the opponent super meter and you don't gain any.

  • Awesome video, its fun to watch you progress. I have just one tip based on these vids: improve your AA'ing. There were a few times an AA would have ended your matches earlier. You can do B+MP or the HK Ruffian. :) Cheers.

  • Against Sagat's Tiger Knee, if it's not EX, you should stand to block, because you can punish if you do. Ex is safe and blocking low almost everytime makes tiger knee safe. I think the key to beat sagat is patience and punish.

  • against sagat you need to be really cautious once he gets ultra ( either 1 or 2) because if he trades with a Fwd+RH or any Tiger Uppercut you will be ultra'd
