This may be the most underrated album of the '90s, and this is the crown jewel and centerpiece of it, even more so than "The Way".
Too bad this band got phased out by their record label in favor of teen-pop acts. I miss them so fucking much. They could've been just as successful as 3 Doors Down and Nickelback if given the chance by major labels and the radio people. ;-(
I remember seeing Pitbull stating in an interview saying music today is "10%" talent "90%" business in a smart ass manner, trying to look cool. Well you have certainly got the talent bit right because you and your contemporaries today are utter sht you twat!
Why does this video have only 112,458 views? A stupid Lada Gaga video can get hundreds of millions of views within a couple of months, and this video has been up for almost three years! People are truly missing out on 90s nostalgia!
@spacefreak09 Because of massively increasing population, there are more idiot kids who don't understand what music is then people who can tell talent from autotune.
"I'll be the rain falling on your fire escape, and I may not be the man you want me to. I could be myself, how 'bout you?" Awesome lyrics and awesome song. Jeeze I miss 90s music.
i fully agree with Havermayer cuz ther really is no life or soul or passion behind anything today to a point wher ther copying stuff from the 90s and back cuz ther can not think up anything new on ther own its really sad. and one more thing ther is no more mtv anymore its RSATV
@teketotem989 we're saying this now, but keep in mind that ONLY the GOOD stuff survives from each generation, not necessarily the hits. In the 70s; Definitive groups like CCR & The Doors didn't chart particularly well. Groups that did include Captain and Tennile, The Carpenters, and Starland Vocal Band; who all released "Hits" (massive ones mind you) that now rank among the worst songs ever written. New music has it's good and bad, but a decade's final judgement must wait 9 years.
lol at 41 seconds "what happened to FASTBALL? i heard they are missing! they are all over the news!" ""THEY ARE ALL DEAD IN MY HOUSE! Ha Ha Ha.... (: (: (: (:"" "they made up their minds"
Come listen to this single and more from the 70's, 80's - and now the 90's for the summer - on an Internet radio station you can listen to for free: "OffTheCharts!"

Attention Fastball fans: If you're anywhere near the Chicagoland area on April 7th, Fastball's Miles Zuniga is headlining our power pop themed charity event which is open to the public at Fitzgerald's nightclub. Benefitting the Carlos Hernandez Journalism Scholarship award for DePaul University. Show is at Fitzgeralds nightclub doors open at 7PM please attend this magical night with us!
@daisylovet - - This was directed by Francis Lawrence - look him up on Wikipedia for his other credits. It's an awesome piece of videography for sure!
@emmthreejonny here's some suggestions: Go to a record store like FYE or something. They sell just about everything there, or look up any other record store's catalog. Or, look up some bands on the internet, get suggestions from friends or other people. Don't rely on the media and other mainstream sources to spoon-feed you shit if you don't like it.
@Bobofjudia - I'm just saying back in the day when mainstream media played music that was actually good, were introduced to new bands or new albums and we get to hear their music first before we consider buying them. And being in high school then, we did not have enough money to spend on many things. So far same goes for today.
@emmthreejonny Well now that we use the internet more frequently than in the 90's, we're able to look up songs and listen to them on our own, without having to sit through a bunch of other songs and commercials.
@Bobofjudia man I just remembered when MTV aired shows like ALTERNATIVE NATION, SUPERROCK, HEADBANGERS BALL. Now I don't even know why they still call themselves MTV.
@emmthreejonny The problem is, there's no good, easy media to find music you like anymore, save for Pandora. The era this came out, we had: MTV, Muchmusic, VH1, Columbia House, ACTUAL MOM N POP RECORD STORES, Rock radio, etc. We have NONE of these now, don't even say MTV, it don't count now. We didn't have as much internet tech then, so bands relied on more common media outlets to be heard. You would actually see posters on shop windows everywhere touting bands' new records.
@Revidescent84 I personally say credible music mags are the way to go. Spin, NME, Alternative Press(if we still have it?), ChartAttack, Blender, Revolver, hell even Esquire runs some damn fine music editions from time to time. I do, however wish I hadn't got a lifetime sub to Rolling Stone. Aging liberal hipsters jumping on every bandwagon.
@TTBurger88 You're just not looking in the right place. Finding good music nowadays is like mining for gold. You have to search hard and dig deep t find the most precious gems. With the internet, you can find most of these artists easy peasy. I've found dozens if not hundreds of bands from the past few years that are definitely worth checking out through it. If you think the music on the radio is the only music that's out there, then you're an idiot.
Kinda like the unravelling of a mystery. It's raw Chicken in the fridge. And then she opens the door and a REAL live chicken runs out. It must symbolize death or something. Very clever. Its the first time I've seen this. Fastball is still churning out Albums. Theyre still together. The radio doesn't play talented music like this anymore.
90's music has something special... More emotions I think, and that makes it great. Matchbox 20, Fastball, Semisonic, who remembers these bands anyway? But their songs are brilliant, and I'm glad I found out about them.
@orlasplit I'm a 22 year old black guy with this song as his ringtone & I LOVE IT!!! And I like all of those bands that you listed orlasplit. I was mostly into R&B/Hip-Hop when I was a kid until I started listening to the Now (That's What I Call Music) albums Volumes 1-10 which opened me up to a variety of genres. Unfortunately Now 10 (2002) was the last best volume because music itself became really bad by the time Now 11 came out.
Fastball is still the best Power Pop Trio out of the 90's and I'm glad to say they're still touring and playing. This is my favorite single from their 2nd LP "All the Pain Money Can Buy".
Last year when I saw them in concert I requested this song, and even though it was late and there were only like 10 people still remaining, they played it. Wonderful band, and great guys.
Wow. That was well done! Is the song that old already? I remember when it just came out. Seems like just a couple years ago. I'll go see 'em if I have the chance.
Fastball deserves the attention the Black Eyed Peas are getting. It's just they aren't advertised at all. Personally, I think this song is 10X better then any of their songs.
@mnap128 this was played in season 3 of ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer: senior year 1999!!!!!!!!!! that's how I came across this song. I miss the late 90s as well
This is one of the most clever videos out there. I just wish they would make the video longer to give info as to how and why the band members ended up in her house to begin with.
@jihadsoup I believe that this video was shot with a SteadiCam. I think that it's a gyroscopically controlled camera that minimizes shake. You can find it on Wikipedia.
Walking today in Ottawa, Canada. Rainy as shit. Walked under some fire escapes on Bank Street and got hit by a bunch of big drops. "Fire Escape" instantly became lodged in my head. Listened to it about seven times in a row here tonight on YouTube. Thanks for posting this kickass song so I could listen to it after all these years. Always loved this one.
@PlumfulPixie ohhh get off your high horse you simply dont get that the emotions in this generations music comes from meaning and lyrics not how we sing it :D
@PlumfulPixie I grew up in the 90's and used to say the same thing about previous decades; "why isn't 90's music as good as the 70's?", and so on. I guess some things never change :)
@MsWhateverusername That's probably because 90s wasn't as good. but in comparison to music of today i would take 90s anyday. Hell. i would even take 80s and i dislike 80s more than any other decade.
@PlumfulPixie in the 90s, music had stopped being good in the 80s. in the 80s, music had stopped being good in the 70s. in the 70s, music had stopped being good in the 60s. and so on... everything is crap and everything is good. its in us, not out there
@PlumfulPixie This is just nostalgia talking. In the 90's, the older generation was saying that the current music sucked and was not as good as it was "back then".
@Havermayer in the 90's it was actually still music though, and hadn't fallen into a pit of hipster art fags with jackets and fedoras. songs could be catchy and up-beat without being too pop-oriented. sure people of older generations probably felt a gap between 90's music and their own, but alot of the same principals applied to the construction. those principals which made music good just dont really exist in what people are pumping out these days. the atmosphere and the agenda behind it
@Havermayer It is partly that and there has always been less innovative mainstream music but i think the problem is also that mainstream, generic and money driven music has become more popular and dominating in todays society as consumerism and materialism has increased alongside it. Therefore more innovative and original music is more unrecognised than ever, especially among the younger generation. As a member of the same generation i am very sad this is the case.
@PlumfulPixie you are about the 1 millionth oldster to say that. It is time for you to get thee to an old-school music store. I suggest getting the Airborne Toxic Event album to ease you back in.

By the way, Fastball is playing down the street tonight in the park in San Marcos, TX
@PlumfulPixie ugh again people you can look past mtv and radio to find good music idk wtf your listening too but the non mainstream bands i listen to have more raw emotion then alot of the 90's bands did
I soo love this video, sometimes I want to do the exact same thing to my disgusting roommate what that girl does with fastball:)))..I hate you Bazs, you're dirty, you never clean the apartment and someone should really tell you that NOONE wears leather pants in july...
Boy she is going to need to get that carpet cleaned. Btw do u think they gave her the wrong key, just to mess with her or was the video supposed to be shot that way?
i was looking for these guys ! :)

The nostalgia kills me...I was 18 when this came out damn time flies but these were the best
mnap128 2 years ago
@mnap128 this was played in season 3 of ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer: senior year 1999!!!!!!!!!! that's how I came across this song. I miss the late 90s as well

I was 9, different kind of nostalgia for me.

yeh I hear ya!
At 18 19 the world seems full of excitement and opportunities
These songs bring me back to that exciting yet somewhat anxious time in my life
I will treasure the memories that mold me forever, without living in the past of course

I remember watching this video back in 98, I was soo jealous of all the fastball stuff she had, but I wouldn't want Tony dead in my bathtub LMAO!

it wont let me play the video...wtf.

The measure of a great band is that their songs all sound different but are hit quality stuff! That's FASTBALL!! Nobody does it better.

This is one of the most clever videos out there. I just wish they would make the video longer to give info as to how and why the band members ended up in her house to begin with.

Does ANYBODY know the camera operator for this video? Because, damn he is TALENTED. Really nice work.
jihadsoup 2 years ago 44
@jihadsoup I believe that this video was shot with a SteadiCam. I think that it's a gyroscopically controlled camera that minimizes shake. You can find it on Wikipedia.

@jihadsoup it's amazing what a Steadicam can do ;)

@jihadsoup This video was directed by Francis Lawrence
He did a lot of videos.

WTF is up with music today? Why cant bands get it? 90's was full of raw emotion, something this generation's music is lacking.
PlumfulPixie 2 years ago 65
@PlumfulPixie for sure....90's had the best music. I like 80's too but 90's had a whole lot of heart
dbofabolous1 1 year ago
@PlumfulPixie ohhh get off your high horse you simply dont get that the emotions in this generations music comes from meaning and lyrics not how we sing it :D
mook2u 1 year ago
i agree 100 percent. They sound a bit like the wallflowers in the song, anyone else think?
lemans24fan 1 year ago
@PlumfulPixie I grew up in the 90's and used to say the same thing about previous decades; "why isn't 90's music as good as the 70's?", and so on. I guess some things never change :)
MsWhateverusername 1 year ago
@MsWhateverusername That's probably because 90s wasn't as good. but in comparison to music of today i would take 90s anyday. Hell. i would even take 80s and i dislike 80s more than any other decade.

@PlumfulPixie What yous aid gave me chills. Glad i was alive in the 90's ;)
BrickLaneBetty 1 year ago
@PlumfulPixie in the 90s, music had stopped being good in the 80s. in the 80s, music had stopped being good in the 70s. in the 70s, music had stopped being good in the 60s. and so on... everything is crap and everything is good. its in us, not out there
grandexandi 1 year ago 2
@PlumfulPixie This is just nostalgia talking. In the 90's, the older generation was saying that the current music sucked and was not as good as it was "back then".
Havermayer 1 year ago 13
@Havermayer No, the music today is literally garbage.. lol
Sniffles187 6 months ago 2
@Havermayer in the 90's it was actually still music though, and hadn't fallen into a pit of hipster art fags with jackets and fedoras. songs could be catchy and up-beat without being too pop-oriented. sure people of older generations probably felt a gap between 90's music and their own, but alot of the same principals applied to the construction. those principals which made music good just dont really exist in what people are pumping out these days. the atmosphere and the agenda behind it
HAYDS510 6 months ago
@Havermayer Yeah, but I seriously believe pop music is in a terrible way even yet.
dlong6184 4 months ago
@Havermayer It is partly that and there has always been less innovative mainstream music but i think the problem is also that mainstream, generic and money driven music has become more popular and dominating in todays society as consumerism and materialism has increased alongside it. Therefore more innovative and original music is more unrecognised than ever, especially among the younger generation. As a member of the same generation i am very sad this is the case.

@PlumfulPixie you are about the 1 millionth oldster to say that. It is time for you to get thee to an old-school music store. I suggest getting the Airborne Toxic Event album to ease you back in.
