  • @DXforeva94 it probably made them too sad, but i dont c how this song has to do with fear as a manipulation device

  • im glad i kno tom in person :D backstage passes to the show on dec 22 2011 xD

  • Whether you like this version or the Catch 22 version, all i can say is wow. this song is incredible...i hear the mainstream music of late and it makes me mad. THIS is music. Why is shitty music acceptable now-a-days, and artists like Streetlight Manifesto go mostly un-noticed? i just don't understand

  • @soydave1988 the lead sing was an original member of Catch 22, actually I think he was the singer.

  • @AStarlightDavid

...I realize its the same guy, which is why i said that really doesn't matter which version you think is better.

  • @soydave1988 because you're a hipster, that's why.

  • chills.

  • @sk8rguy4life1123

    What?

    That's... god that was dumb.

  • 1:06 and 1:27 those two moments are some of the better i have had in my life :3

  • FUCKK YOU~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111

  • This is a heads up for anybody whos still alive

  • @dancerlegs

All they really did was write a happy-sounding song with bright chords and put sad lyrics to it. (pure genius btw)

  • The way he transitions from "maybe I'll see you there" to the more definite "I'll see you there" really gets me. He probably doesnt believe in a God or a Heaven so he says maybe he'll see her there, but by the end he's so sad and alone he says it in a definite way because he needs to see her there, even if he doesnt believe. Damn this song is sad.

  • @Insanatey UR GAY

  • @ConradStriker You can call me gay once you get rid of your Pokemon profile picture...

  • @Insanatey haha, chill bro, i was just joking around, im sorry if i offended you, as that was not my intent. i was just goofing off =)

But i did find it odd that you don't think that he believes in any sort of Deity at all, or any Heaven concept, as almost every single religion has at least one of those, and he has mentioned (or alluded to) some of theese topics in his songs.

  • @ConradStriker haha aight dude, we're cool.

As for whether he believes in a God...eh im not sure. In many songs he mocks Christianity and points out problems with it (40 days) and he says that he likes to see "in shades of grey" so yeah. Maybe he does, maybe he doesnt but im pretty sure he doesnt believe in heaven which was my point up there^^ Who knows, it's up to Tom.

  • @ConradStriker @Insanatey Oh my god o.O you two just revived my hope that there is not only derpheads on youtube :o Thanks :D

  • @vindu554 herp herp :3

  • BASS YOUR FACE!

  • I never thought a Ska song would make me this sad.

  • this is a random thing to say about a streetlight song...but i really like the sound of the drummers snare drum

  • @bcarman14 thats prolly because chris is using a rockshelled drum it.

  • Love this song! Love this band!!

  • First show I did with my band, I was in my gym clothes, I was sick, and we played this as our first song, then we played it again as our last song. :D

  • @SCARYFREAKINGPERSON it seemss we have a common goal see i want to start a ska band could you give me any suggestions to get it going?

  • I played this in my English class for a project about Fear used to control others. Once I played it everyone didnt like it . Screw them!

  • @DXforeva94 Dude that is bs. This song is awesome.

  • @thetwistedboy I know! It got soo awkward

  • @DXforeva94 thats when you say," Whoops i ment to play enotombent of a machine by job for a cowboy." just to piss them off even more. That'll teach'em to dis

  • @DXforeva94 I wouldve liked it if I was in your english class...

  • :'(

  • This song is so fucking good.

  • love streetlight, love this song, both to death :{DD

  • Listening to streetlight takes me back to happier days when the world had more love in it. Oh i almost forgot. Oi! Oi! Oi!

  • there to many haters were i live but this bad KICKS ASS me and my best friend made a band because of streetlight call hedgehog to the face love streetlight

  • ...8 months just isn't enough time... I don't want your footsteps to die out.

  • Love the bass part. :D

  • Love it from 1:06 to end. Like the rest as well

  • every part of it is a distinguished cord. the lyrics mixed in with the drums stands out. even my friend used this songs lyrics for a monologue and won the contest because of these lyrics. brilliant my friends

  • the lyrics really make this song stand out a class above

  • Does the bass intro instantly remind anyone else of "You Don't Know" by Reel Big Fish?

  • @thejumpinjohnny EXACTLY my thought!

  • @thejumpinjohnny good ear man

  • @thejumpinjohnny I've been thinking that for years and saying nothing. I am suprised and at the same time not suprised that my thoughts were the same as others in this case

  • I just love this song so much!!

  • The ending is like the icing on the cake...

  • S.K.A. = Streetlight Kicks Ass

  • @jorbsquash12 genius.

  • @jorbsquash12 Even though Tomas doesn't even consider streetlight a ska band lol

  • You people piss me off. It's fucking music, just listen. Stop debating over useless shit that won't matter when you wake up tomorrow. If you really need something to do, go masturbate or something, and stop filling beautiful amazing music with pointless arguments about who is better. It doesn't really matter. The music was still created for us to enjoy, was it not? So do it what it was made for, ENJOY IT. Sit back n listen, dont hunch over n type. You all must have really strong fingers.

  • streetlight =catch 22

    bitches!!

  • @PMOCAPALDI Actually Kalnoky WAS Catch 22. Period.

  • Does anyone else hear a Paul Simon influence through out the softer part of this song?

  • Comment removed

  • its weird but this song actually made me want to be a better person to make my mom proud before she dies...

  • the best band ever!!!!

  • Anybody know if this song is about someone or just a story he wrote? Either way it's very creative and paints a vivid picture. I can see the lady telling her kids she's ok and then sobbing when they go out to play, etc. A very tough subject to cover but done beautifully.

  • @knobsdog: i heard it was for his friend's mom who was dying :/

  • Fuuuck, worst song ever to listen to on mothers day... So sad.

  • I didn't realize how sad this song really is until I read the lyrics.

  • @bigfatcatmovies Same.

  • it's amazing how the story of a ska song can so so sad and yet make you feel so good...

  • one of the saddest and best songs from streetlight.. truly great writing from tomas

  • this sucks.. love the song. but whoever edited this fricken needs to keep there hands off the volume

  • its not edited.. its a remake by streetlight manifesto.. they re did the entire keasby nights album...

  • @gahu101 who did keasby nights? i never understood that cuz catch 22 has it too and idk who originally made it.

  • well, Tomas Kalnoky wrote the music, at least thats as far as i know.. but he was the singer/guitarist in both bands, catch 22 and streetlight manifesto... Tomas is known to re-do alot of his past creations with other bands, just like his old band Gimp.. they had a song called Super Nothing, he then joined catch 22, and re did it with them, same with streetlight manifesto, so really i just think Tomas wrote it, but it was originally recorded with catch 22, this is just a remake.

  • ah okay thanks. i've been wondering that for a while lol. and i didn't know catch and streetlight had the same singer/guitarist. i actually don't really like catch 22 lol.

  • Yea Tom Kalnoky wrote Keasbey Nights with Catch 22, then he left the band soon after and eventually started Streetlight. Then Victory Records was going to re-release the album with some extra content on it, but instead Kalnoky re-recorded it with Streetlight.

  • mmm love ska basslines always good

  • this song is awesome

  • What is everyones deal with punctuation and grammar, seriously this is youtube not a god damn uni level assignment!

  • yes yes yes, thank u sir

  • You're right. But grammar and spelling are the corner stones to how you present yourself. Especially online when this is all people have to understand you. laziness is not an excuse and ignorance is not bliss.

  • You prove a valid point.

  • still trying to find 1 of their songs

hopeing u guys can help me out???

  • For you, lalajasmine1

I found this song i've been lookin for for a year by actually looking up streetlight on iTunes. Thats kinda sad for me tho cuz i've been listening to these guys since the Catch 22 days. just never got a hold of the albums

  • see the thing about thomas is that he wrote everything and he is a perfectionist. That's one reason he re-wrote keasby nights

  • This song is so sad. i love it.

  • I love this song I love this band I love ska. Fav part in the song "Don't wait for me, you got a lot to do and a lot to be and in the end maybe I will see you there!" STREETLIGHT MANIFESTO come tour Toronto PLEASE!!

  • This song reminds me of my mom. This was basically my story from ages 10 through 12.

Until she died :/ This is my song for her.

  • "and so I pray everyday

"don't take my mother away" "

    that really gets me :C

  • if this song was a little sadder sounding I swear it would make me bawl my eyes out. I'm a guy btw.

  • to me this version sounds 10 times better than the original, i know theyre the same song but i think it was recorded and mixed better this time

  • Sad song, yet tomas seems to make it sems happy still c:>

  • lol this takes me a good few years back.. good old days of the ska kids :)

  • I think Tomas had to re-record the album becuase it was all his lyrics, it meant something to him, not to catch. So I would re-record it, I wouldn't let my old band have the songs I wrote and meant so much to me, Especially if I wrote a song like this. Sad Song :(

  • ya you would get attached to them but just taking the songs from all your old band mates is so fucked up. i dont know if ur in a band but if someone in my band did that i would kill them

  • Straight up, Thomas wrote all the music he wrote the sax, he wrote the bass, he wrote the drums, he wrote everything, they then kicked him out of the band, and as Jonnypd1 said the lyrics meant something to him and he also didnt want it to sound like crap, which it did because thomas was the only skilled musician in Catch 22.

  • you know nothing of tomas kalnoky's past. stop trying please. tomas is amazing, but saying every other member of catch 22 wasnt skilled is fucking stupid. old catch was amazing, they ALL were. sure they arent as good now heck, they suck. But tomas CHOSE to leave for school. They didnt kick him out.

  • plus it depends on where the copyright shares ended up. That is the answer to the bullshit/not bullshit trial

  • your fucking retarded...he doesnt even know how to play any of those intruments... exsept guitar.... you really thought he wrote (EVERYTHING) i mean hes a song writing genius, but he aint that talented. the only thing he did was write the lyrics, the guitar, and kinda humed what he wanted the main horn line to sound like. so dont go telling people what your telling people cause your wrong.

  • hey, before you get all ignorant about it, he could be musically inclined and composed all the parts. that's what i did with my last band. he could have made all the harmonies on guitar or piano and write them for the musicians. Were you there when he was "humming those horn parts"? I think not. "so dont go telling people what your telling people cause your wrong"

  • alwaysblinkin182,

Your point would seem more valid if you didn't have the grammar and spelling of a nine-year-old.

  • ha ha i agree, i actually get that alot... why is my spelling soo bad..... i never thought my grammer was that terrible tho... what makes you say that?

    but ya im 17.

  • A start would be "grammar" instead of "grammer". Jesus tapdancing Christ...

  • ha ha ha, im a fucking retard, i dont talk as bad as i type..... really i dont.

  • a lot is also two words.

  • No reason to make him feel like shit because you feel like being a grammar nazi. Really, who gives a shit? Douche

  • amazing band amazing song......... its sad that they havn't had more sucsess....... any word on 99 songs yet?

  • i think i saw an interview somewhere with tomas saying that they were just finishing it up.

  • good..... the last time i heard anything about it he said fingers crossed by the end of the decade........

  • what? streetlight is one of the biggest ska bands in the world..

  • I feel like they'd be alot more successful if they put out a record more than once every 2-3 years.

  • ska has never been about being sucksessful its about doin what u love for the love of it as much as i love streetlight and want everyone to know who they thats part of what makes them special

  • ya.... but then the songs will be half assed...... like could you imagine how long it would take to make one streetlight manifesto song.

  • I'm not saying he needs to get a record out every six months, I'm just saying would it kill him to get a record out once every 2 years, instead of 3? I love this band to death but after having them be around and following them for what 7 years? Kinda makes me wish they had more than 22 songs. (I don't count Keasbey because he wrote it before SM.)

Plenty of bands write quality material in much shorter time. Tom himself admits that his perfectionism makes him delay way longer than necessary.

  • ya i wish there were more songs too than just 22..... i dont count keasbey nights either only cause i never really listen to it by sm i only listen to it by catch... exsept dear sergio and this one goes out too i like sm versions alot.... anyway waht about 99 songs that should be out soon... that will keep us busy untill the next record comes out.

  • i would honestly wait an extra year for the lyrics and everything to be perfect rather than rushed

  • Sometimes , Life Just Makes So Much More Sense when Someone Like you Makes a Perfect Comment On Youtube! Congratulations! You Are absolutely Right!

    +3 Internets!

  • @dasharzan

Sometimes , Life Just Makes So Much More Sense when Someone Like you Leaves A Comment With Every Letter Starting With A Capitol Letter.....

  • @MrPLOXPLOXPLOX

Every letter starting with a capital letter....Explanation please sir....Thank you

  • @dasharzan

Hahaha. Oh shit lol. I was typing a bit fast. Every word starting with a capitol letter. Hahah my bad. xP

  • LOL it's "scientifically proven"

I like this song. At first, I didn't want to even give this band a chance but I'm so glad I did.

  • dude its all personal preference

  • dude this song is amazing

  • Every night for three long weeks, she'd roam the hallways half asleep. And as the footsteps fade away, in my mind I could swear, I could swear I heard her say...

  • The whole catch versus streetlight debate can be summed up in my opinion, that Catch offered more raw and vibrant sound, whereas Streetlight offers a mature and refined sound. The band members are getting older, and so there musical ability is becoming perfected but the raw passion of their youth, like all men, is becoming tempered and organized. It is not a question of superiority, but a preference, and realistically, why not have both? Just Damn Good, all around. Damn Good stuff.

  • their different members dude...... the only one in catch thats in streetlight is tomas (the lead singer/guitar/song writer)

  • @thedevilsadvocacy You're Right man, I think BOth bands are awesome, each one has different sounds but they are excelent

  • @thedevilsadvocacy That was probably the best statement to that argument I've ever seen. Bravo, good sir.

  • @thedevilsadvocacy your name suits you

  • i think this may be the saddest song ive ever heard :(

  • mad fuckin good mad good

  • This song is one of the VERY few that brings me to the brink of tears every time.

  • tom cant sing like he used to hes more mellow and relaxed catchs versions have alot more exitment and energy thats why i like emm better than streetlight. and this song is about a girls mom dieing so whose mom was it? message me please

  • id hate to add to the whole catch v streetlight argument but i do enjoy the rawness of tomas' vocals in catch but the quality of tone and musicianship in streetlight cant be matched by any of the bands out there now

  • amazing bass.

  • Kalnoky is an amazing lyricist, the way he writes all their songs and how open the songs are to interpretation is absolutely brilliant.

    Living legend.

  • :( disapointed....tomas just cant scream the same way he used to, like in gimp, or in catch. wheres the the feeling and emotion. im sorry but catch's vesion is way better. go listen to it, sure the quality is better... but i just dont feel it.

    its sounds rushed

  • Comment removed

  • I thought it was "YOU'VE got a lot to do" not "I'VE got a lot to do" :P

  • oops, typo 9.9 thanks for noticing that

  • @dancerlegs in the original catch 22 version, they said I've got a lot to do

  • they change in the different versions of the songs

  • :0 I did not know

  • JESUS CHRIST, people just enjoy the song...he rerecored it whatever its how he wants it now and it doesnt matter which you think is better. THEY ARE BOTH REALLY GOOD VERSIONS.

  • streetlights version is SO mhuch better than catch 22's

  • very good welldone :)

  • I like both Streetlight and Catch 22s Keasbey Nights albums. I enjoy the gritty sounds from Catch 22's, but to me it sounds like on some songs, Tomas added and changed parts of the songs for Streetlight. Even though, like I said, I'm a fan of both versions, overall, Streetlight's just sounds more complete and well-done.

  • ok, tomas did rerecord it because he didnt like how it sounded, but that doesnt mean other people cant like it more. personally i like streetlights version better, but everyone has their own opinion. Tomas is a perfectionist, meaning it has to sound perfect TO HIM..... What he likes may not be what others like....

    KOWABUNGA

  • unfortunately you kids dont know shit. catch's keasbey nights is a classic ska album, it was meant to sound gritty. this isnt shit compared to the orignial

  • lol kids.

  • kik lids

  • kik losd

  • Lol, it may be a classic ablum, though you mate don't know shit. If the album was meant to sound gritty why would the creator of the songs re-record it in better quality ? ? I mean he even says at the end of "1234 1234" that he'd been wanting to re-record it for ages, as the sound quality wasn't very good before. Well he says garbage, which I disagree with as I like catch 22's rawness of the songs. It's suits the era it came from. Though that was because they were just starting out as a band :)

  • I honestly think that Streetlight is the greatest band of all time.

  • Ya'll don't know jack.

The Catch 22 versions were all recorded with the quality of a chimp scratching his ass and smoothing it onto a CD. Tomas specifically re-recorded the entire album because he wanted to record it the way it was MEANT to sound.

The Catch 22 version is very unpolished compared to the Streetlight version.

  • I agree with you man, streetlight's keasbey nights has a much fuller sound.

  • ACDC i know wha ur talkin about all of the catch 22 songs seen to sound better like 1234 is one of my favorite catch 22 songs but streetlights version isnt great

  • i completely agree i just wana hear the original catch 22 versions the streetlight ones are like all speeded up a little it seems..idk i just prefer the original catch

  • i believe when they did it in catch-22 they had more passion for the song and perdormed it better

  • yea but you have 666 in your name and can't spell preformed so your opinion doesn't count.

  • preformed? i dont think thats a word....douchehole

  • lol douchehole I honestly have never scene that before.

  • Alive i agree with u but that was ironic how u spelled it wrong

    :-D

  • I thought it was funny to. I'm glad you agree.

  • THe bass is a beast

  • def

  • i love this band ooo much!!! they are amazing especially their drummer this si my favorite song by them and the first i ever heard :D

  • this is def from the original keasbey and i have a real connection with this song because my aunt pretty much went through what this song sings in the lyrics, so i get really emotional whenever i hear this song, but its still one of my favorites

  • this is my favorite song his month, imo most underated song on keaseby nights

  • awesome song, although i have absolutly no idea wtf it's about =P lol, some of tom kalnoky's lyrics are haaaaaaaard to understand

  • in no way is this hard to understand

    and there are lyrics

    haha

  • This isn't Pink Floyd. The lyrics are very blunt and don't really take any though.

  • Anybody else notice that someone's messing with the volume (or something like that) throughout like the whole song?

  • I wouldn't have known the difference

  • streetlight manifesto! u r awesome!

  • Streetlight is epic.

  • this song is like... amazing.... my grandma died from cancer in 3 weeks. when i herd this song i was like "holy eff" soo yea... it was weird.....

  • this song is about his friend's mom... he said he would never play it live again...

  • thats not true, i saw streetlight a few weeks ago, and he played it

  • no way.
