  • its funny how most guitarists get their 'time' when having 20...

i mean Yngwie Malmsteen 'Rising Force' totally shadowed the '1984' album in the guitar community, and Malmsteen was 21.

  • steveinmidtown.... he was 23 when all this was going on (b:26 Jan 1955)....I read an interview of Ed's where he said he didnt want to play like Hendrix because of all the effects he (Jimi) used (pedals, etc.,) Both are ledgendary guitarists, but not in the same league.......Jimi is classic 60's (mind-blowing) psychodelia, Ed is classic gonzo shredding at its most awesome love em both!!

  • VH kicked ass on original songs.

  • although I like this - I'm glad this version didn't go on the album I prefer the album one :D

  • @steveinmidtown and darkknight91 you guys make me laugh, You don't even know each other and you fight in youtube conversation. Lol weak. Talk about egos. By the way just enjoy the music!

  • I wish they would release stuff like this

  • Judging by the 2 thumbs down this video has received, I guess Sammy has stopped by twice.

  • @sadaist HAHAHAHAHA!!! Thats fucken great

  • This is the first time in my life that ive liked a cover better than the original,

The Kinks version isn't bad but it's too soft for me!

Van Halen turns this song into a rock and roll song!!!!

  • 'music house' '80s !

  • Dave forgot the fucking words?!? LOL. Check out US Festival's 'Romeo's Delight'. Awesome post, thanks for sharing.

  • C'est genial

  • great song and great group

  • This is from the original Warner Brothers demos recorded in May, 1977. I have all of them.

  • Same here. :)

  • I wish I did!

  • proof that eddie van halen improvises his fills.

  • lol, dave......remember the words next time

  • Eddies early improv is untouchable...and WHAT THE FRIK WAS THAT AT THE END LMAO!!!

  • Right?

  • Very Cool....Ive never seen most of these photos -rare....

  • nothing matches early eds playing

  • dude luckyloves....... pop can be good music its like rock but than soft rock

  • Rammstein is shit and guns and roses are to some pop are good like the beach boys and sued

when it comes to rock then i love black sabbath and AC/DC and ozzy but Rammstein are just funny to listen to but it is so so so so crappy wery boring try to listen to david bowie insted that is music

  • yes true i dont even like ac/dc or godsmack im more of a screamo kinda person and rammstein is funny to listen to

  • Van Halen was Pop.

    =]

and...I like the old 50 cent.

    xDD

  • me too.

  • no van halen was 80ties rock pop

  • oh ok so im gonna be a real rocker by listening to this spam?

  • The Kinks couldn't hold Eddie Van halen's or David Lee Roth's dick buddy. Eddie used this song to blow his wad all over their face with his guitar. This song seems to me to be a demo that never made it to production because it wasn't the right take...simply put. It's great to hear it though and THANK YOU For the post because this song has always fucking woke me up and gotten me ready to party..... Eddie was simply brilliant at this time

  • Awesome thanks for posting but what in the world was they doing at the end LOL!

  • Obviously Van Halen is better than the Kinks.

Comparing Eddie's guitar work to the guy in the Kinks is a joke. Listen to the guitar solo in the Kinks' studio version and it really is embarrassing.

Plus the Kinks were into having sex with transsexuals just like most English guys.

They should be called The Queers not The Kinks.

  • Each one has is opinion. Some really bad...

  • But the Kinks really do suck...

  • Why is it you call us english guys. Don't you have any idea of what happens around the world. We support each other in all major current wars, we look out for each other. At least the Kinks had the imagination to create the song, and if you prefer the copied version, good for you!

  • Also, if the kinks studio version was so bad, why on earth would van halen use that song to copy from

  • That's talking

  • haha, yeah, LOLA is a class song though

  • Supposedly that's Jimmy Page playing the solo on the Kinks original.

  • He didn't

  • Yeah, it's not very good. Couldn't have been him.

  • @darkknight91

Nope, Dave Davies did the solo and he's the only one deserves credits for this!

And it's a GREAT rocker, both Kinks and VH.. Remember it was 1964 and there was Cliff Richard and the Shadows, or some mellow stuff by the Beatles.... This one blew everybody's minds!

  • Uh...The Beatles were more than mellow. The Kinks were a blip on the screen compared to them. Cliff Richard was all but over by 64. The Beatles ruled the world in the 60's. Nice try though.

  • The original is always better. Sorry, but The Kinks WROTE this song.

  • If the original band says the cover is better...THEN its better.

Yes Ray Davies DID say he like VH's Better. He said that the original was a "prop plane," and VH's was a "fighter jet."

  • Ray always had a very good sense of humor. And very songs than VH

  • I agree. Van Halen is good but the Original is the Classic. This is just a Cover.

  • i like the kinks better

  • This is AfterZero stuff

  • you really got me loving this song!! lol that was really bad...

  • haha, i love the voices at the end.

Eddie's earliest guitar work is so goddamn fast.

  • & the fucker wasn't even 20 yet.

  • If this was recorded the same time as the one released on the first album then Ed was 23.

  • That means he'd probably been playing about 10 years? It's mind-bending how these guys like Ed & Hendrix can get that good in a relatively short time frame.

  • it's just fucking goddamn hard practice and a love for the instrument.

  • true but these guys are just born with it

  • @steveinmidtown

    He was 22, idiot.

  • @darkknight91 wish you had the balls to say that to my face.

  • Yeah, I'm afraid of a 56 yr old internet tough guy. He was still 22. Idiot.

  • @steveinmidtown you should be since you're a little fat fag who rarely gets laid & beats off to gay porn...nothing would give me greater pleasure than smashing little creeps like you into a pulp. Cmon, reply now, say something tough b/c you know you're helpless & weak in real life but sooooooooo tough behind that keyboard.

  • @steveinmidtown do u have multiple personalities?

  • @steveinmidtown u wish he had balls? lol sorry.

  • great song, thanks for posting the demo.

  • dude eds tone is awesome

  • Lol, Dave really screwed up, but that's classic Van Halen, how everyone loves.

  • now, you really got me now...

  • where the hell do you get this stuff?

  • I think I like this version better than the one they recorded. I like the way Dave sings it and Ed's noodling around, awesome!

  • i like it better to

  • I noticed Dave forgot the words but I couldn't see how it threw the rest of the guys off.

  • Great Demo

    Great Band

    Greatest Guitarist IMO

  • U ON CRACK

  • AMAZING
