  • Haha, quality.

  • Take care. Slainte

  • Half a offensive?? Not sure what you mean.

But know, you won't see me on Friday.

  • Scruffy and the boys played at my wedding back in July - fantastic! They did a cracking version of The Sash though ;) some of you would cry into your guiness if you knew what other tunes are on their song list!

  • Hi Val,

Ian and your wedding was one of the highlights of the year. Brilliant !

The rendition of the Sash, there, was to prime Scruffy for his next challenge. Entertaining the bargain punters at the January Ibrox "Everything Must Go Sale". Unfortunately our offer to play for nothing was declined due to insufficient funds in the Hun's entertainment budget. If there's other songs we play as half offensive as the Sash but you can tell me what they are at John and Jeane's wedding on Friday- Jock

  • Super intro, great voice. I love this version.

    Grüße von einem BVB-Fan ;=)

  • Hey 601337, Wasn't Seve a famous golfer from the SEVEnties? Please pardon my ignorance, but what has señor BALLESTEROS got to do with the Great Architect of the Universe and a Hun monarch?

  • Maybe so, but he can sing though, and what a song !

    Look beyond the clothes sometimes.

  • Some green &white greetings from Germany!!!! Let the free birds fly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • up the offaly bhoys !!!

  • I was there that match, against Livingston. Scruff, you owe me a beer next time you're in the Isa!! Matt

  • I watched this a 100 times and it just gets better - Scruffy I would have flown to the the home land just to see this !!! Come back to the Pig and Whistle - You guys made it !!!!

  • This is the best live version of this song!

  • Love it! Thanks hugebhind and Scruffy.

  • gets better every time i watch it scruffy....one question tho....who lent u the phuckin coat??? lol

  • well fergusna.... there is controversy about who lent the coat. Scruffy says it was Billy the Bastard from Cleveland in Queensland. Jimmy Spence from Accacia Ridge reckons that it's his an he's waiting for its return.

  • My Gawd, you stubborn mic plicks! It's a wonder we ever chased the Roman's out. Yeah, the lyrics ought to be true but even sang wrong or poorly the message is still getting out. They hear one version they want to hear em all because the song is just that good and sincere. Stop picking on the Yanks and the Aussies, most of us have just as much Irish blood in our veins as you. Indeed still have families there. Ye might just need us some day!

  • I don't care what anyone thinks. These guys know how to entertain and give all their fans a great and memorable performance. Sorry I missed your last show here, but hope to see you again soon!!!!

  • come on who is going to respond now as a fellow irish true and through, does this monkey acually know this wonderful irish song or not. I say not,if so is it his own lyrics about his own life. If you are going to sing in front of thousands, sing it as it is...

  • garp1975 sorry but you have crossed the line. Racist comments calling people monkeys are not welcome here in Australia as the visiting Indian team just discovered.

  • Thanks for the background stonebear76. So eloquent and factual. It puts us all to shame. Jock - TT front Man

  • Words on an 1888 Broadsheet:By a lonely prison wall I heard a sweet voice calling,'Oh Danny, they have taken you away. for you stole Travelian's corn, that your babes might see the dawn, now a prison ship lies waiting in the bay.' Fair lie the fields of Athenry where we stood to watch the small freebirds fly.

  • The broadsheet lyrics are below the St. John lyrics. The song was based on a true story of the fate of one young couple during the Irish famine. The song tells the story of Lord Trevelyan who cruely brought in cow corn to feed the people. local people thought it would save them and so broke into the stores, were arrested, and subsequently deported to Australia.

  • Pete St. John is known as the author of this song, at least in its popular form, but the words go back to a broadsheet ballad that was published in the 1880's. One of them was published by Devlin in Dublin with a simple tune, which is very different than that of the modern song.

  • Sinn fein IRA!! the song is actually from a rare musical fro mthe late 1800's and it was about a boy named Danny and a girl named jenny

  • hmmm,is this dog the bounty hunter with that mullet

  • tHE FUCK DAE DAFT YANKS COME OAN AWW THE BLOODY TIME N SLAGG OUR TUNES......i DARE YOUS TAE SLAGG THIS TUNE TAE MY FACE, OR ANY OTHER OF THE 60 THOUSANDS CELTIC SUPPORTORS AT PARK HEAD, AND SEE IF YER NAE FUCKIN DEED!

  • Great post. Go on the lads- Hibs and Celtic all the way.

This fellow's a bit of a legend, you can tell.

  • What a load of crap: if you are going to sing a song, sing it as it is... I love the original and I am from Tullamore in Ireland and not Tullamore in OZ. And now live in the uk. This is beyond politcal correctness.

  • Your words are so cutting and hurtful garp1975. Are you a budding Oscar Wilde or what? I'm just gonny have to have a wank and cry myself to sleep now to cheer myself up. Thanks for being one of the 36 and a half thousand viewers of this epic. - Jock TT Frontman

  • Hiya Dad! Aye, it was Jenny who posted that comment. But i've never held an entire football stadium before!!! X

  • Please take the time to visit the site of the legend who penned this masterpiece::: dub dub dub petestjohn dot com

  • kpopit - I too wonder what all the fuss is about. Pete St John, a Dublin man, wrote the song in 1979.A pedantic few are making accusations that Scruffy has changed the words in this rendition and find his unintentional use of poetic licence offensive. The message the song delivers remains unchanged. If he hadn't moved to Australia voluntarily in 1966 I'm sure his accusers would have him exiled on a prison ship from his native Glasgow Govan tomorrow.

  • I am a fan of this song from America. I've learned quite a bit from these comments. Could somebody tell me what words were changed in this version and why those changes are so objectionable? Thanks.

  • My closest friend is this guy's daughter & boy can she sing too!!!

  • cool i am going to celtic park for my birthday dinner next week

  • Lyric change aside.

Why hasnt this been uploaded from a local source?

It cant be the only version 'The Tullamore Tree' has on record? The sound is clearly dubbed on this version (no 'hisp' sound due to mic proximity for one)

Its a nice version, and scruffy clearly can sing it. Do it right, now and upload that plz. Id love to hear it.

  • oh yes! CLEARLY dubbed. You pretentious twat!

  • Hmmm, changing lyrics is acceptable only if they are an improvment and don't change the message. (excluding when it's called for personalization) We do "Fields of Athenry" a little faster but keep the spirit strong and graceful and don't change the lyrics because it is perfect.

  • You shouldn't change the lyrics of a reveloutionary song. That's fucking awful.

  • there R a few versions of this love song, i just like the origional version that i have grown up with, what i dispise is, this beautiful song is now associated with bigitary, not the hardship that our grt, grt, grand parents and those b4 them "suffered an enjured" If u want 2 make a comment, goonboss, "an please do" make it worthwile and with a bit of intelligence and knowledge behind it.

  • I had a few the day I posted my comment and, I agree it was uniformed and unfair. I do appoligize. I will stand by my appreciation of the version I hear most often. I also dont' like the chants that get added in. somtimes less is more.

Again, you are right, I am wrong. I do appoligize and hope that my saying so will make it right.

  • I will further add ot my appoligy that i had no idea it was acceptable to change the lyrics of the song around. It's to come to blows if somone changes the lyrics of any to the US's patriotic songs.....It's just not done. not to my knowledge anyways. That was what really sparked me. Again, i was hammered, and, I do still admit I was the one in the wrong.

  • Thankyou for ur feedback goonboss, I am very passionate about that song and what it stands for. My choice of wording was perhaps alittle harsh. Hey! looks like we've both got that spark in certain topics :)

  • I was an ass. I thought you responded with due restraint with being properly admonishing. ;) Cheers.

  • What a nice thing 2 say, take care goon :)

  • scruffy couldnt even get the words right in that love song and i can bet he would have got paid more in a few mins than michael would have been paid in 10 yrs, reality check scruffy!!!

  • Thanks for the feedback Gemma aka monaghancampbeell. I will take it on board and pass it on to the Scruffy one who will no doubt do as he damn well pleases as usual. For the record Scruffy received no cash payment for this Parkheid performance. The Celtic VIP treatment and meeting boyhood heroes, Bertie Auld and Danny McGrain was priceless to the Scruff.

Slainte - Jock (Tullamore Tree Front Man)

  • this song truely belongs 2 ireland, its about poverty, loyalty and ultimate love for family life. celtic? i was a believe'r in the sport, but when u can turn sumthing good into sumthing bad, "shame on u" set an example and ur fans will follow!

  • Also Gemma, If you check your history Michael's deportation to Australia turned out to be a blessing in disguise. He only went and struck it rich on a Ballarat gold field then got his wife and kids out on the family repatriation scheme.

Slainte - Jock (Tullamore Tree Front Man)

  • Scruff's next challenge is to sing a good old Aussie favourite "Click go the Shears" at Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen. More appropriate than singing the Celtic anthem of deportation loved by thousands of "Tims" the world over I agree. I can't guarantee that he'll get the words right. Why change now ?

Slainte - Jock (Tullamore Tree Front Man)

  • With all due respect hugebhind, i "do" know my history, deportation 2 aussie or usa or even uk! there is no-ones life a "BLESSING IN DISGUISE", not when ur living the pain day 2 day as many abandoned families did back then. they fixed our lifes 2 b better. due respect again, every1 is entitled 2 their own opinion, i feel ur's tho was abit shallow.

  • And If, You Know, Your History

It's Enough To Make Your Heart Go

    Whoh, Oh, Oh, Oh

We Don't Care What The Animals Say

No What The Hell Do We Care

Cos We Only Know That There's Gonna Be A Show

AND THE GLASGOW CELTIC WILL BE THERE

  • Thanks for returning comment Monaghan. Scruffy did not change the words intentionally. He's getting on in years and has a short term memory problem so please have some respect for the elderly.I respect your stance. But Celtic FC were formed in 1887 when half of Glasgow saw the good Irish Priests in Edinburgh were doing with poverty stricken kids when they established Hibernian FC in 1878. Believe me, Celtic and their supporters know hardship, poverty and suffering. Slainte - Jock TT frontman

  • i cud almost hear u singing that hugebhind, it has given me a right laugh along with ur comment bout respect 4 the elderly, sorry 2 hear bout scruffy's 'memory' problem but im sure it wont hold him back lol.

  • DOG THE BOUNTNY HUNTER

  • Comment removed

  • Didnt Pavarotti sing this originally

  • kin arfull version, dropkicks do it better! sounds like a bad a day in a celtic supporters club

  • Im a Tullamore man and off to athenry soon.........wasnt that guy in the Wizard of OZ

  • From Tennessee, USA.

I LOVE this song no matter who does it.

    God bless the Irish

  • god willing we will all live in peace one day with no hate

  • our love was on the wing ...sinn feinn...we had dreams and songs to sing...the i.r.a its so lonly round the fileds of athenry we will chant that until ireland is fully controlled by the irish the4 i.ra arent te4rrorist they only want what rightfully belongs to the irish people and that is a complete ireland for the irish people

  • God rest Bobby Sands and all who died for freedom

  • The only disgrace here are the people who think they are better than the rest, I'm not going to mention the one who called the Dutch orange Bastards...

Respect for the song ^_^ Cheers

  • jeshter, you don't fully understand, Ireland is not under the juristiction of the UK, nor is it in the commonwealth. It has realized that to be under the Anglican crown pretty much clashes with teh Catholic Irish, who historically were more inclined to be Jacobites, and not supporting the usurpers.

  • an absoulate disgrace that this has being allowed to be sung at celtic park a notice use blank out the chants of IRA and Sinn Fein with silly cheers

Scotland is trying to riddle itself away from this kind of shit so kepp ure irish away from here

    4 countries 1 Nation

  • Eh I like the union but feel really britsh so to speak cos i had ancestors from the republic of irland many generations ago and half english family. But never forget our history, u can like the socialist working mans song against the empire which treated irsih people the worst but as part british we cant hate everything the union or the empire stands for except the mal treatment of the irsih and the blacks who were slaves.

  • Brian McNeil's lyrics then go on to say:

So don't talk to me of Scotland the Brave

For if we don't fight soon there'll be nothing left to save

Or would you rather stand and watch them dig your grave

While you wait for the Tartan Messiah?

  • (cont)

He'll lead us to the Promised Land with laughter in his eye

We'll all live on the oil and the whisky by and by

Free heavy beer! Pie suppers in the sky! -

Will we never have the sense to learn?

  • Dirty orange scumy bastards! It was yous who sold oot yer own people fer saxon gain!

  • Spot on angenmaer. I think Dick Gaughan echoed the thoughts of a lot of Scots in his "No Gods" number released in 1996. I quote,

"And tell me will we never hear the end

Of puir bluidy Charlie at Culloden yet again?

Though he ran like a rabbit down the glen

Leavin better folk than him to be butchered"

  • (continuation... No Gods)

"Or are you sittin in your Council house, dreamin o your clan?

Waiting for the Jacobites to come and free the land?

Try going down the broo with your claymore in your hand

And count all the Princes in the queue!"

  • Quality song, well sung. Dackelmensch, you ve been watching braveheart again, and believing that shite.Dont show yourself up mate, fucking bigot.

  • Great song, great performance.

I pretty love this song, for me simbolizes the oppression of Britan by the English Crown. I'll hope that all Scotish and Irish patriots keep that song in their hearts and free their countries from English governance. That English has run out of time, so stand up and get rid of 'em!

  • yes your so right so a welsh guy cant marry a english girl or a scottish guy cant love an english girl ? please tell us your next words of wisdom ?????

  • double winners 2007- huns won fuckall again.

    haha!!!!

  • Thanks for taking the time to post a comment gburny. But sadly the message you are trying to convey is lost due to either an inarticulate delivery by your words or possibly my level of intellect. So in the words of former great Queensland ex Federal MP Pauline Hanson when asked if she was homophobic I must ask you to "please explain" or sadly I will have to send your words into the abyss.

  • A well constructed reply sir! And ditto! although 'ditto' seems to understate things a little...

  • waht a fuckin tramp down and out scumbag big jock knew

  • look at your own videos ya hun bastards up the ra!!

  • now, now, maka
