  • Marillion is - Love for all life

  • I own a "fire" on black jacket but it was a DOORS (superb) reference... Still somewhere but nevermore suiting me;;; LOVE Fish excentricities in costuming too!

    (^_^) (^.^)

Dogs at the end of the track remind me my 2 yorkies : never barking while I sometimes played loud all kinds of musics !

  • Was man hier sieht,...

  • im german. i love marillion. but playing on such a stupid show is simply awkward. im sure the german anchor and even the (very old) audience had no fucking clue what incredible, awesome bad is playing right there.

  • bet he though of this when he was taking a bath

  • I'm not sure what made me buy Clutching At Straws back in 1987. I had just got my first pay from my summer job and I made my way into The Virgin Megastore on Aston Quay in Dublin. After much deliberation I decided on Clutching At Straws and promptly listened to it all summer long. At the age of 13 I didn't understand much of the lyrical content but it's strange now at the age of 37 how some of the lyrics ring true. It remains as one of my all time favourite albums.

  • @Heybro80 - niceone man ... not sure if I bought my copy my copy in the Virgin megastore .. more likely I bought mine in the Sound Cellar on Nassau St ;-) but you've hit the nail on the head. I was 15 when this came out and it will be forever in my Top 10 albums of all time, Lyrically superb, Musically sublime.

  • How do you ruin such a great song with such an awful recording?

  • Their music sounded too much like Genesis at times.

But along with Paul McCartney and Paul Simon, Fish is the greatest lyricists of all time. ALL FUCKING TIME.

  • @blaklodge INDEED HE IS SIR! totally fantastic...thats what he is...

  • Of all music of the time, Marllion is definitely some of the most inspired. It's not only about the great music in itself, but also the cleverness of the lyrics they base it on. Off hand I don't know of any modern music that builds to this extent on (very clever) poetic imagery like Marillion does.

  • Fish is brilliant, and I must admit myself that I finish equal Hogarts captivating. Big Marillion

  • Those dogs on the sofa at the end hahahahaha – wasn’t expecting that – a bit random – maybe another spinal tap moment or even a spaniel tap moment – Great song though – I like his outfit its cool!!! 

  • ya ever notice that the euro chix look less outdated then US chix fashion speaking? as for Fishy well the WWE/WWF could use the clothes for their respctive museums. his looks screams 'look at me'. no suprise they broke up soon afta. luv THIS marilly and luv me sum fish.

  • I like Marriollon a lot! But I must say, this is their worst ever performance. Look at Fish - what is that outfit!

Luckily I can still listen to album just itself.

  • i love marillion. but its awkward that they performed on such a german tv-show (im german, this show was just for ... housewifes lol). and too bad its playback ...

  • myn,lippen,maken,the,wet,circles,everuwere,you,want,they,do,fout,list,weg

  • myn,lippen,maken,the,wet,circles,everuwere,you,want,they,do

  • As for the Fish era and the Post-Fish era...sometimes a certain combination of artists produces a whole greater than the sum of its parts. I don't think either post-Fish Marillion or Fish on his own will ever achieve the level of greatness that Marillion and Fish had together. I like them both well enough separately, but together they were on an entirely different level.

  • @rskimsey you pretty much summed up what I have felt all along. Very true & indeed I don't think they'll ever be as popular as they were with Fish BUT that doesn't mean their music isn't better now than it was back w/Fish-it's one own personal preference. I quite love hogarth now though & his vocals are unmatched by anyone, in my opinion. Fish's songwriting on the other hand makes you sit & think & ponder, its pure brilliance. Also I think they should have changed their name after Fish left :)

  • @companyof8 truetruetrue, my sentiments exactly...

  • Great band

  • the great Fish! j'avais oublié Marillion, j'y reviens xxxxx

  • Marillion with Fish - at the peak of there carrer ...

This TV Show ist from Nov. '87 - Fish was 29 years old! ;-)

  • Fish with hair

  • These were the days. Long gone.

  • GIVE ME BACK THE E I G H T Y ´S !!!!

  • love the FLAME suit fish!

  • The singer reminds me of a giant Phil Collins.

  • @xsamitt lol

  • What a wonderful melodic guitar and keyboard line...

  • Fish great singer i love that song

  • Crappy playback. I would never play under playback...

  • fish looks like a fuckin bear.

  • love the girl.

  • My girlfriends got a warm wet circle!

  • high! im from austin tx and i hate you.

  • I love Marillion, I love Fish, I love Warm Wet Circles... But that is a stupid outfit Fish is wearing. It's poising my liking of this song.

  • @ FredMalm si tienes razon q estupido y mierda

  • KLASS FISH...

  • ahh,,this album is the perfect companion to drink with...great memories..

  • Greeeat song!!!! It's definitely captivating...

  • As I recall, Fish had just got married before this. I think he was fresh from his hoeymoon

  • @Silmarillion1973

    great memory!

  • My absolutely favourite love song, ever...

  • Man, what is with these German shows and lipsyncing. Fish's tuning is too shaky and emotive to not be instantly recognized as the same recording :P.

My favorite response to this was Iron Maiden's...one of the funnier performances in rock history watch?v=uS7W-OiPwjo

  • @AchillesStandsOn..... I know what you mean..... but fish and Marillion are stage performers really. I saw them in Munster in '87 when he spoke German to the crowd and they went crazy......just loved it. He really knows how to get a crowd going.

  • wonderful performance! but, who's that girl on the backing vocal? Tessa Niles?

  • lol xD Marillion in playback ;)

  • I love Marillion. Music with substance.... Something more rare to find in today's music.

  • come on gys this music is art now the music is passing througth out a lack of quality and talent

  • Lip sync'd.

The boys must have had a good laugh over this one.

  • Where can I get that suit Fish is wearing? :-D

  • ask him...

  • @Gondo60 You almost certainly can't. I had an Africa shirt of that pattern back in the late seventies. It's gotta be dead and buried through more than two decades now.

  • Intricate thoughts. Imagination. Feeling and passion.

  • Loved Marillion in 80's. Misplaced Childhood got played to destruction. Saw Fish solo many times til a few years ago in Belfast, he just did NOT want to be there, worst attitude ever! lost a fan for ever

  • @gareth4493

My only hope is that you wont forget the years before

  • @reachthelight Maybe he's realised he's too old for prog rock drippy-hippy stuff. Don't seem to be touring so much these days. And yes- do remember the good times, Kayleigh is best love song ever

  • All I can say, there is passion, but also apathy. Is Derek already bored? I lived this album with my prestigious Diskman strapped to my side 24 x7. I have lived Kerouac and just survived. The castle of the future could not bring them together again- you know what i mean boys. Diesel for EMI back from Scotland!

  • he is the best contempory lyricist of the last 20 years. ok

  • I saw teenage girls like gaudy moths/

    A classroom's shabby butterflies/

Flirt in the glow of stranded telephone boxes/

Planning white lace weddings from smeared hearts/

    A token proclamation/

Rolled from stolen lipsticks across the razored webs of glass

    wow

  • Again... the Fish/Hogart drama lives on like the DLR/Sammy feud. Enjoy the music for what it is! :)

  • I wish I could write songs like Fish.....

  • For the alcoholics like me, Fish was the troubador. 22 years later, the demise of my marriage and the separation from my children echoes Fish's pain and suffering....

  • you obviously dont know good looks when you see them and im glad he left i prefer him on his own

  • Marillion without Fish aren't Marillion

  • I don't think so. Both Fish and Hoghart are great and should sing together :) I don't imagine Easter was sung by Fish and Warm Wet Circles by Steve - each of them has very big talent and created marvelous music :)

  • @martuhasz absolutly !

  • @martuhasz i prefeer hogarth singin warm wet circles, you can find on rock steady 1990 ;)

  • @martuhasz

  • ah, finally a drug song for the most faithful mind-altering substance of them all. when all else fails, cider and marillion. hic!

  • Love the "torch" outfit!

  • What a great fucking song. I'll love it 'til the day I die...

  • clutching at straws is such an underrated album , still listen to it regularly and fishs lyrics are amazing as always...........shame it all went tits up

  • I listen to this and Sugar Mice as I deal with the alcoholism that ended my marriage. Could never completely break away from the college scene.

  • Ah, I love Fish so much......but OH MY GOD he needs to totally lose those flaming lounge pajamas.........I'd rather see him in a straight jacket....oooooh yeah......

  • I need a drink after reading all them comments!

    Burp...OOOPPS....I forgot....

    I've already started.

  • Brave" Concert the only Live concert in 1994 in Bristol..

  • Hmm I see I am in good company .. :-) back in the 80ties I was the only Marillion fan in miles around me ... Ah well I did enjoy my drinks never the less.

  • I drank over this song hundred of times. The whole record its the perfect companion for severe drunkness in those nights of wondering.

Oh boys will you drink to me now?

  • Here on the hill

    Halfway up,halfway down!!!

  • hahaha indeed my friend!

  • here on the hill half way up half way down :)

pint o bitter and a whiskey chaser for me :)

long live the fish! the true poet of my generation

  • yes

  • @wallyabb This

album is perfect to be drinking under a rainy day!

sometimes makes me cry but I enjoyed every beat of this masterpiece.

  • Marillion Story and Legend!!!

  • A rare mimed performance from the boys. The sound is taken straight from the single. Rother's guitar isn't even plugged in! God, why?

  • I don´t know, but German stations really love lip sink show.. until now!!! Can´t believe this as well. :(

  • Actually I think his image is extremley powerful and original, none like him today.

  • The most beautiful song about getting drunk I've ever heard.

  • Fish is on fire!!! lol

he really didn't get enoughcredit for his talents...

and i totally know wot u mean normality123!!

  • Der Bundesadler auf der Brust ist cool

  • I love Marillion. They are one of my favourite bands of all time, but what the fuck is Fish wearing?

  • I agree with you, they are one of my favorites too. But I hate that "fire clothes" , its ridiculous. Nobody is perfect

  • it was the "torch" character suite of coure with a german sport shiry underneath with the German Eagle crest..

Legend says Marillion burned the costume after Fish left in 1989

  • Thanks for the explanations, it makes more sense now .... If they didn´t burned it, would be very difficult take a mannequin as tall as Fish.

  • Beautiful song.... this song epitomized my life in '87 then and now..... Warm wet circles......

  • i love this song!

  • Cool dress :D

  • It's the same outfit he had in wembley! looking good :-)

anyway - I love Marillion! and Fish is one of the best preformers and song writer! brilliant work! thanx for sharing...

  • Man, I wished I had friends around like Fish when I was younger. It seems like all I have now is emptiness of the past.

I still like to listen to these songs at 32.

  • This was the first Marillion song I ever heard...it still has the ability to make me cry even now...beautiful, beautiful stuff.

  • Their best album IMHO

  • love marillion!! and fish is hot, even in that outfit

  • I love Fish. I'm angered by the fact that they still call themselves Marillion.Cause Steve Hogarth messed it all up instead of keeping up a rich tradition, it's so hollow now.

  • Sorry! I gave you a thumbs down by accident! I agree with what you said.....Just think of it as a positive comment! sorry lol

    God save Fish!

  • fish is great..clutching at straws is great..thanks for this

  • p.s. defo an album track..not to be played on a chat show..its to deep for that..

  • oh my god...fish you are a god ..thanks for posting this ,,love the new marillion to bits but fish will always be in my heart..

  • HAWT FLAMES, BABY

    CHECK OUT MA BEER BELLAH!

    Seriously, that's some pimpin' pedo-clothes.

Fish come on, dude... Clothes were never your forte, were they?

  • Now say that to his face.

    xD

  • OMG.... still beautiful Marillion after 21 years.... :)

  • its been great and its been lovely...

dont know about you guys :)

but i hit 40, and my doctor says i won't reach 41 watching this... ;)

best ever band, Marillion ment something back then...

  • the suit is abit much

  • The sartorial elegances of the late 80's.

  • The suit is AWESOME!! lol flames mate.. FLAMES!!

  • Why didn't they continue with "At that Time Of The Night"?

  • @ Stonebeard,

    LOL, it is!!!

    Great song!

  • that is one helluva suit

  • my favorite album

  • watch?v=DKKGzntUc0w see this:):)

  • a very beatiful song with GREAT FISH.I love this man since i heard him for the first time in 1989

  • I was lucky to see them a couple of times in the 80's. So glad I did

  • I love this song. Thank you for uploading it.

The whole album Clutching at Straws is musically, poetically and lyricaly sublime.

  • Jesus, i had this album for twenty years and its still sounds good.

  • Hotel Hobbies-Warm Wet Circles-That Time Of The Night often find themselves on repeat in my headphones when I can't think. It's lovely. <3

  • I didn't know you could dance prog. She does it very well.

  • the best of the best

  • This album was phenomenal. Every song is a story, a masterpiece unto itself.

  • Great!!

  • when i see this...i'm absolutely agree with cryogenics!!!this was Marillion!!!this is Marillion!!!

    nice vid!!!

  • armakuni, it's the single version. And yes, obviously playback. The album version is identical aside the piano ending. Here it ends with Kelly's work. On the album Kelly's piano merges with Trewavas' bass intro in At that Time of the Night.

    Great song in any case!

  • Oh well..I see I didn't actual answered your question. As said it's the single version, but I believe the backing vocalist just sing over the tape that's being played though Fish must be miming.

  • Okay! The single version probably has the backing vocals. Tessa Niles is the vocalist (though it could be someone else in the video).

  • Aguante FISH Y MARILLION LOCO!!!!

    saludos!!!

  • Nice backing vocals - that's not on the original. But still, it's playback. Must be a different version?

  • Always loved the big guy

  • AMAZING TO SEE THIS !!! thanks for posting. it's just to damn bad that marillion proper couldn't hold it together for another 20 albums.

  • This tour was my first ever for this band, great music. I still loved them. This song makes me cry.

  • Great song, I loved the whole album. Wow, back when Trewavas had a big hairdo and Rothery actually had hair!

Now King Hogarth The Great is the only one in the band that has stage presence....I muct admit I loved Marillion back then, but I love them just as much now, even if they're very different. They still have great music and very intelligent lyrics.

  • I'd disagree, they shouldn't even be called marillion anymore - 'RadioBread' would be more suitable. When they split they lost more than just chemisty. Same goes for fish, his catalogue since vigil has been rubbish. S'a great shame for the neo prog scene.

  • Trewavas looks a lot like those kids from the eighties playing synthesizers + synthesizers + drums + handheld synthesizers... wait... It was the eighties and he was playing the synthesizer :D

Nonetheless he looks like taken out from a totally different musical style.

  • who booked this gig?

  • I love Marillion and Fish...rock on you guys!

  • sacred.

  • it's so funny such a good band and song in a studio atmosphere in Germany and the next topic are three dogs.... i have to laugh
