did NOT "abuse" Xanax, I was dependent. You're not alone if it made you sick. I've been slowly tapering off in order to ease the powerful withdrawal syndrome associated with benzodizepiness such as Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin, etc. There are few support groups to choose from in this situation, but if you need support while you're going through this process, please check out the website called benzoexodus c om - It's founded by people I know and trust. A great place for benzo withdrawal support.
