  • I never knew Donitz spoke such perfect English.

  • Karl Doenitz was a hero. He saved thousand upon thousand of innocent lives at the end of WWII when he took over from Hitler, by not capitulating to the Russians and moving civilians and germans to the western front to ensure they were captured by the americans, brits or french. Hundred of thousands that were taken prisoner by the russians never came home again.

  • I'm 18 and I love learning about WW1 and WW2 and anything of the past, but it seems like kids my age would not like to discuss anything to do with WW2. Every time I refer something to WW2, they look at me in puzzlement. I have yet to meet another teen that has any knowledge of WW2. Most popular audiences of these history videos are 35-64 yo, so are today's younger generation much less aware of history or perhaps they have better things to do such as facebook and I'm just dwelling in the past...

  • @levierdragon i am 49 yrs old, i started reading about the first and 2ww when i was 17 yrs old... i read everything i could get my hands on... i could not talk to anybody, at that time everybody as to day are concerned about self... i did not have a lot of friends.. i was called everything from a racist to a nazi an all in between.. for there lack of understanding... there is more then two sides of any advent... look at every possiblity, no matter how hard it may be...

  • @patricklegg2 I have German books about ww2 from Guderian , Leon Degrelle, and others. My papa fought in the ruhr and met my grandma in berlin hospital . Just because i have an interest in my heritage and respect it , i get called all kinds of stuff.

  • @levierdragon Glad to know that at least one of today's youth hasn't been overwhelmed and brainwashed by all the "dumbed down" rubbish pumped out via tv and facebook - your generation has become what Hitler described his own people as "A sleepwalking people". Maintain you interest in history so that you'll be alert to the latter day demagogues who are every bit as dangerous as Der Fuhrer was in his time. Remember. "Those who don't learn from history are condemed to repeat it".

  • Was genuinely surprised to find old Donitz speaking here.

  • Wow, "have removed Pro-Nazi comments by idiots" - ? You are in need of some heavy re-education, here is a video of type XXI Uboote along with earlier models, and the comment section is heavily inundated with censored facts about Hitler winning WW2 by staging he lost, all of it substantiated. I suggest you take a week or two to review this data, specifically the debt-finance system of economics VS Hitler's style posted there. Censorship is never good yet you censor (delete): /watch?v=pXZH9DTPSFk

  • Jews win all wars

  • Didn't know Donitz spoke English.

  • @ijnfleetadmiral He also spoke German and Welsh.

  • ***Have removed Pro-Nazi comments by idiots***

    why ban free speech

  • @anthonybarrett79 You don't know why?? Don't you know that free speech could destroy all the billions of Dollars that "Hollywood" has invested over the years conditioning your minds into thinking that the "God fearing" and honest, Stalin, Churchill and Roosevelt fed you!? But we are beginning to realize that we can't believe half the lies that this Trio fed us!!??!!

  • Geilstes Englisch eines Deutschen^^

  • Admiral Dönitz,eine grössr Komandant.

  • Do you have a copy of the "Genocide" video from World At War/ Thanks.

  • Britain lost the empire because was on the wrong side.

  • @Capitancanguro1

    Agreed.

  • Quit idolizing this guy.

  • Érdekes felvétel, talán az egyedüli az idős Doenitz-ről. Ő volt az utolsó vezetője a Náci Németországnak ha jól emlékszem.

  • @cro499 "ordering of mass-murder and slaughter on the high seas" - they didn't find anything substantial to charge Dönitz with at the Nuremberg court.

  • @tabesin77 They should have hung him simply for walking on the cracks of the pavement/gehsteig....take your pick.........Dig him up, hang him and his grandmother.Nazi swine.

  • @r0sebud100 Fuck you ass lice!

  • @soutache MR ass lice to you........You nazi swine.

  • @tabesin77 There was no mass murder by the Germans at anytime, it's all a hoax.

  • hitler

  • @FreiNemmersdorf .....Bollocks.

  • @FreiNemmersdorf...... actually it's paraphrase not "parasite".You poor uneducated fool. And there is no need for me to "parasite off the British", i'm already a Brit.......You sad, old, lonely obtuse fool.

  • @FreiNemmersdorf ..You little teaser......You type the cheekiest things......Oh! And by the way...Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?

  • @FreiNemmersdorf ......Get a life you pathetic nazi wannabe, jew baiting twat.

  • @FreiNemmersdorf....No. You make me laugh much,much more.......You're simply a big joke.

  • @FreiNemmersdorf ....so you call yourself a moronic imbecile. You poor little lamb and mad fucker.

  • @FreiNemmersdorf ....."jew jokes"???????? What the fuck are you on about?....Are you mad or simply bipolar?

  • @FreiNemmersdorf ...you have no real sense of humour !

  • wow

so lucky to hear his voice

  • To all those talking about Dornitz not being a war criminal he was charged with waging unrestricted submarine warfare against neutral shipping, allowing the Commando Order to remain in effect, knowing that involuntary foreign workers were working in the shipyards, he did nothing to stop it, and not advising Hitler that the Geneva Convention should remain in force. He was found guilty but not sentenced on unrestricted submarine warfare because the allies did it too, and spent 10 years in jail

  • this old bloke lost his son- Paul (also a U-boat cdr) early on in WW2

  • Under this man's command the Kriegsmarine was able to rescue hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing from the advancing Red Army in one of the largest evacuations in world history. Far from mass nurder, the man has saved untold lives. People should read history before sprouting uninformed opinions.

  • I fucking hate how they put this man to Nuremberg like he was some kind of a british war criminal, refered to him as the new Black Beard even. Thank God Chester Nimitz had the balls to defend this man because he knew Dönitz was just following orders like a good soldier should.

For example brits want to talk about pirates. How about this. Many notable brits who served the queen like Francis Drake for example were pirates.

  • He was a genius.

  • @jacob1363

He sure was. Man who did the best he could with limited resources to fight against two large superpowers USA and the British Empire. Britfags were very lucky. Luck was most important reason why allieds won. Ironic part is that the americans testified on behalf of Herr Dönitz. 50% of americans have german blood so I guess they felt ashamed figthing for jew Morgenthau against their brothers.

  • @Darthvader710 ....Silly me he was a good Nazi with a true heart of gold.He was so good a Nazi he didn't even know what was happening to all the innocent Jews of Europe ,throughout the war years. That poor man.

  • @cro499

What"s your point bitch, If he would have had those 300 U-boats when the war against Britain started you jews would not be talking shit about Germany today.

  • @ss90ss444 ...You type the sweetest things.......you little teaser.

  • @stupidrider53 He died Christmas eve, 1980.

  • I have been trying to find his memoirs in audio book format but no joy. I may cave and order his book. Apparently it is quite the read. Even people who have read hundreds of books on thje subject were surprised to see how they were drawn into it. He was a brilliant man and thru testing, was found to be in the top three in regards to IQ among his piers in the German nazi hierarchy.

  • I always felt they should've acquitted Donitz.

  • @cro499

how funny, did your parents swim in the Atlantic ? Thanks God they survived, otherwise we could not enjoy your hilarious humor

  • @BlitzWotan .....And who said you Germans didn,t have a sense of humour? Eh?....

  • @cro499 The most irritating kind of person is one who makes jokes that nobody finds funny but still believes he has a great sense of humour.

  • Comment removed

  • @cro499 "mass murder and slaughter", ridiculous! :D maybe you should read a little about the allied "slaughter on the high seas", for example, american planes bombing German u-boat rescuing survivors of a ship she had sunk, or the statements of an American admiral during the nuremberg trials about the Americans waging exactly same kind of tonnage war against the Japanese, as the germans did against the British in the north atlantic etc.

  • @JHKmOBSCENE .....You're simply avoiding the real issue......."original founding member of the cheekie chappie Charlie Chaplin Appreciation Fan Club (German Branch).

  • @JHKmOBSCENE

What do you think about Wilhelm Gustloff and Thielbek? It is amazing how these hypocritical british and russian assholes cry about how Dönitz and Raeder should have been hanged at Nuremberg, isn"t it.

  • Herr Admiral Donitz, the man talking above, was handed supreme power of the Reich by Hitler at the End of the war. As you can see,he lived long after it.

  • GREAT GREAT GREAT ADMIRAL. HERR DOENITZ

  • Akzent hin oder her

  • Whatever you think of Donitz's politics, you have to give him credit for his skills as a naval commander and strategist. He was no doubt one of the best of the 20th century. Also, remember before any of us judge the Admiral too harshly, 60 years from now someone might be judging our troops and commanders based on their opinions of W and/or Obama, and that's hardly fair. Soldiers fight wars, politicians start them.

  • @DocLeggz undoubtedly!

  • Herr Doenitz was a Grand Admiral of German Navy, he was a brave, patriot soldier who did what the do in war time.

He was no criminal and therefore as part of history we should talk with respect.

  • He & Guderian were great military men. And I despise Nazism.

  • When the Nuremburg tribunal found him guilty, his anger was apparently quite visible.

  • Adm. Doenitz seemed like a random choice as a successor by Hitler, don't you think?

  • I believe Donitz was chosen partially due to the fact that Hitler had ruined his personal and professional relationship with all his other ranking subordinates. I read that by the time Hitler appointed Donitz he had ordered the death of possibly 20,000 members of the German armed forces. Certainly Hitler had fallen out with most of his commanders by wars end. Donitz simply had not fallen out of favor so he remained one of the few that Hitler trusted enough to appoint. In a word... random.

  • Siiiiir Winston Churchill planned to and peaded for use gas against german civilians during the end of the war. That was really a criminal act of war.!

Churchill should have been sentenced to death and have been hanged for crimes against humanity.

  • @LatinaHunter So it is your opinion that Churchill should be hung for war crimes that did not occur? How logical is that?

  • @DonMeaker Yes, I do think so.

  • Der Löwe spricht.... :)

  • "wolf pack"=a pack of wolves.

  • @cro499 really? how smart of you...

  • they should have hanged him too after the war, why did this warcriminal ( the succesor of hitler) get away with only 10 years imprisonment, while he too was responsible for the death of many???

  • @mitsupitsu44 During the Nuremberg trials the Americans tried to prosecute Donitz for his order to allow unrestricted u-boat warfare. His defense was that we (America) was allowing our own submarines to have unrestricted attacks against the Japanese merchants in the Pacific. We couldn't prosecute him in the eyes of the world for we were doing the same exact thing.

  • @KingDega1

Yes. It was hillarious that russians and anglo-saxons were accusing Herr Donitz and other nazi leaders of "crimes against peace"

  • @ss90ss444 Communists speaking about the value of peace, while plotting a new war. Funny!

  • @mitsupitsu44 Apparently they were smarter than you.

  • Smart man. One of the best, no doubt about that.

  • Dame Vera Lynn is still alive.Age 93.God Bless her.

  • "wolf pack = to get submarines together"

  • Is it true that herr Doenitz was at awards ceremonies for returning U-boat a notorious and mischavious practical joker.....and would sometimes at these ceremonies dress up as a woman with a big hat and hide in the cheering crowd?

  • Doenitz was one of the great operational commanders of any side in the Second World War. The U-boat offensive, had the U-bootwaffe been given the resources that Doenitz wanted, could have defeated Great Britain and changed the whole course of the war.

  • Dig him up,hang him and his grandmother.Nazi swine.

  • Was Donitz like Hitler a vegetarian ?...

  • I think he ate a few carrots and a cucumber once.

  • german navy should have blockcade gilbraltar and tunis and deny entry to the med for all british ships.

  • what a accent

    greater=GRETAH

  • wat?

I know the history, stop bitchin i know what Doenitz do, Kretshmer,Lehmann Willenbrock.

Doenitz sunk nothing, maybe in WWI but as a gross admiral he do not sink ships.

and i dont give shit about Obama, chill

I found only that "Gretah" amusing and thats all.

  • @buokopter donitz as fleetadmiral was responsible for every german and allied submarine destroyed in the 2nd world war,you uninformed and ignorant person

  • @mitsupitsu44 How the could Donitz be responsible for the allied submarine losses in the pacific. If you going to bash someone for being ignorant then don't be such an condescending ignorant fool yourself.

  • @KingDega1 i am no ignorant fool, i studied world war 2 history, and i was trying to say that donitz is responsibible for all the allied ships that where destroyed by the germans, you un-educated person

  • you stop the supplies you stop the enemy from attacking.

  • Comment removed

  • Then ye don't know much.

  • Bearing44 Dont politicize or attempt to alter history. Donitz was a true commander of the greatest sense. Working under difficult conditions, (knowing @ any time that Hitler would have him killed; or worse, his family would be exiled to a concentration camp). It is known among military men & historians that of all the Nazi commanders; Donitz & Rommel were the 2 that the Allies had wished were on our side due to their intelligence, savvy, & courage. It's a shame that they fought for the Nazi's.

  • i think it´s a shame that doenitz sacrificed so many young, mainly inexperienced u-boot-men in the very last phase of the war, where it was very clear that there was nothing to win or turn around-and commanders of his format did have the means to somewhat spare those young germans from their senseless and cruel death.if you´re looking for heroes of the former german navy, read about admiral wilhelm canaris or kapitaen zur see langsdorff.they proved their responsibility to their human conscience!

  • @djscheisse That was the culture he operated in at the time.

  • Admiral Doenitz fought HIS war with a remarkable concern for the lives of enemy aliens. I wish I had been able to do the same in Vietnam, where I served as Advisory Team Leader to the Vietnamese Armed Forces.

  • An ardant Nazi, and a coward. Admiral Raeder never liked him. He Squandered the german battleships, and refused to believe that Enigma had been broken.A poor commander in general, and another Hitler lackey.

  • Actually he was always convinced that Enigma was compromised. You should better get your facts right. I would call him more of a lackey of Hitler then Schukow was to Stalin.

  • Soobmariiiine!

  • what a character! lethal but hysterical!!

  • By the last years of the war, the u-boats had become iron coffins. But Donitz still sent them out to sea knowing it was futile?

  • did he have a choice? if he refused he would off been replaced and someone else would of done it

  • It is all a bit more complex. D. held back lots of subs until new technologies would be usable, however it all came too late. He then returned to sending out subs to bind enemy forces, and delay enemy operations. Look for the term of a "fleet in being" .

  • The U-boats were coffins.

75% of German submariners never came back.

  • This guy was good but tunneled visioned,

like a small child with toy submarines moving them about. Now there were

good Generals but this guy sent 40K to a water grave.

  • churchill was more concerned about the uboats than anything else the nazis dished out. in 1941, the uboats nearly starved britain. the lend lease act and improvements in anti-sub tech and tactics turned the tide in 1942.

besides, the germans lost millions of troops in the war, against which the uboat losses were not so significant.

  • Still just a little amazing seeing him on film and in color ... you just don't picture that in your mind. Kinda like thinking about how Hess was alive in the 1980's ... just seems fake.

  • Doenitz was as well. He died on Christmas Eve 1980. And Albert Speer died on September 1, 1981, in London as a matter of fact.

  • true .. thanks, I had forgotten.

  • No problem.

  • Dönitz died the year I was born, that can NOT be a coincidence

  • And after the war he continued torpedoing Americans with hydrogened fat and caffeine by founding the firm Dunkin' Dönitz.

  • jajajajajaja he has a plan after all...

  • Dönitz was the best tacttical and admiral what we had in the ww2

when he had enough submarines, he had could to kick in the ass of churchill

  • yes but with the RAF knocking around, your u boats were dive bombed by our mosquistoes.

  • You mean the Sunderlands?

  • no, the mosquitoes mate

  • Yeah I admit the Mosquitos were really great in GENERAL... But ( It is always a but ;-) ) the RAF Costal Command was awarded a very successful anti-submarine airplane named Short Sunderland in 1935. And it contuinued to be in service until 1945 ( or longer dont have so much info about it ) and it was feard by the germans because of it`s advanced radars and teachnology. What I want to say is that the Sunderland was more adaptable to submarine hunting then the mosquitos was...

  • the mosquitoes were used for recon & raiding in the north atlantic campaign. It was highly speedy than the sunderland, plus it was a very effective at patrolling. Both crafts were used to hunt down the u boats. although the mossies were armed with depth charges, which meant they had to fly low at about 80 feet or so.

  • But the mosquitos also deserve credit for their excellent work in combat against both sea and land forces. :-)

  • I 2nd that mate.

  • You need to ask yourself just what in the hell you are talking about? You have no clue. So either shut your stupid mouth or get off of this comment board.

    You are an ignorant fool.

  • IDIOt donitz was great, keitel the same, rommel, etc dont compare them to Himmler or Goering.READ READ READ before post

  • Admiral Donitz was brilliant and tactful commander Germany has his long drawn out plan really well paid. Sadly he was other side of Allies. History recognise his work and effort greatly.

  • Why do you talk fagget so much, like thats fucking nasty, you should be hanged for thinking about homosexual stuff.

  • i dont take " Rewards" or " Gifts " from faggets our counting all people , including family.

  • I'd snap your neck in self defence.

  • Fuck you, What Are You ,? Jew?

  • huh?

  • lol u re worst then nazi m8

  • he has a heavy nice german accent ^^

  • this man said NO to hitlers plans to kill all unarmed survivors of sunked ships, he just done his job like evrey soldier of these days, allied or axis! moron

  • Doenitz was a civilized man, a patriot to his country, a man of courage, and a brilliant strategist.

What more could history ask of any military leader of any nation?

  • Dönitz was not criminal

  • I doubt he was a war criminal.

  • He was an honourable soldier , who served his country to the very last day.

  • I thing Karl was a soldier,not nazi.

  • Of course he was a NAZI.

    Most NAZIS were excellent soldiers

and lovers of their heritage with total dedication.

we need more such men today!

  • The penalty for him was 10 years..was not criminal war,he was condemned because he not save some survoivers after an naval attack....the allies proceed the same,My point it s he was not war criminial,he fight after war rules...

  • lol. He has a great accent. :))

  • would love to hear you trying to speak german...

  • @papabaer91

Kein Problem, ich bin Deutscher. Trotzdem finde ich es lustig wie manche Deutsche englisch sprechen. Mein Deutsch finden übrigens einige auch recht lustig, denn ich spreche einen auffälligen Dialekt. :))

  • btw. it is B.D.U. and stands for "Befehlshaber der Unterseeboote"

    (Commodore of the Submarines)

  • That means in english:

"As a soldier you have to serve your people. It is up to your people to decide about their form of government [monarchy or democracy]."

  • Do you want to know why he gained my respect?

Because he has been in both World Wars and after the first he had to decide if he wanted to join the "new" German Republic (Weimarer Republik) which was formed by the elected National Congress (Nationalversammlung).

He said: "Als Soldat hast du deinem Volk zu dienen. Die Entscheidung darüber, welche Staatsform sich deine Volksgenossen geben, treffen sie selbst."
