  • Nice trill. I start on 12 then got to 13 and speed up trill

  • Wow! I am impressed. I've learned all the other mozart horn concertos and this one is by far the hardest.

  • this is great!

  • more dynamic contrast please or a better recording system

  • @44jesusfreak4 Most cheaper recording devices (mine included) have dynamic volume control - they are geared for recording voice and not music i.e. when the sound being recorded fades, the recording becomes more sensitive. You end up with no dynamic contrast in recorded music. On the other hand, if you listen to most Mozart horn concerti recordings, the most tasteful ones have only subtle dynamic variation.

  • @balthica but they get boring thats the problem

  • I was just curious. I like to see whos playing on what. I'm not a person whos says one brand is better than the other, it's all up to the player, same with mouth pieces. It's my way of learning on whats out there i guess.

  • Hey man great sound. What horn are you playing on?

  • Hello, My name is John, I'm 16 years old and studying to become a music major, I'm doing this piece for my NYSMA solo but, I'm having a lot of difficulties with the lip trills, any suggestions you can offer to help me out? I would greatly appreciate any tips. Thanks

  • Hi John. I looked up NYSMA and apart from Music, there is also a New York State Moose Association. If you can't do them, no problem. Don't waste time now on trills. Concentrate on other things. It took me 15 years. To finger them, on the G/A trill and C/D, I used to use the Bb side, 1+3 on the lower note, 3 on the upper. Works a treat.

When (in another 5 years) you get around to those maddening things, it will be easier because you'll have more dexterity in the facial muscles.

  • My name is Tracy. I'm 15 years old and I've posted 2 videos on my playing although the microphone didn't allow the quality sound to come out in the video. I was wondering if you could comment on them.

I need all the help I can get. I want to be a professional musician when I 'm older, and I'm hoping to play in the london philharmonic....and go to juilliard.=)

  • I could never play like this I play the french horn and suck at it!

  • Hello Jim ! We liked what we heard ! Cheers !

  • This is truly amazing - I'm so glad you put your music on youtube :D

    E.

  • wow i have to play this for an audition and im pretty scared now that i hear it played.. good playing though!!

  • great!! (L)

  • great focussed tone!

  • i really like your playing!!! :) *fan*

  • Thanks very much. That's very kind of you!

  • That was fantastic! I'm too nervous to audition myself since there weren't any solos to choose from that were low horn parts. Ok, so I just outed myself as not being able to play high, but that's ok!

    Love the lip trills!

  • Thanks. I'm still not too thrilled with it. The low register is pretty horrid on this, there's that wobble on the F towards the end and it's a little forced -more Mahler than Mozart.

You're right - Mozart 3rd as a low horn option would have been good, but Götterdämmerung played well, just once, can be just gorgeous. Tack on the Brahms and you have something well within the reach of a good low horn specialist, and something anyone would would love to listen to. Try it!

  • Cheers mate. You are quite a lovely player yourself. Keep it up!
