Using swords to conquer lands in the name of god(s). Any history book will tell you this, what have you been reading? Religion is what splits the United States. Most disputes that are present in today's societies date back thousands of years to religious disputes. I never blame a god, it's religious fanatics that read some book and believe they know the truth.

Is that what you preacher taught you? The person who intially called for a Crusade, Pope Gregory VII, named the soldiers "Milites Christi" latin for soldiers of Christ. The next pope used war for a religious mission, to assest the influence of Catholicism. This was also a period when Germany began the war against Jews.

The number of people killed is dependent on what you read. After the defeat of the Muslims in Jerusalem during the first crusade 70,000 Muslims were killed. JEWS were also placed into synagogues and burned alive by the crusaders. Did you know that when the crusaders ran out of money before they reached the holy land they pillaged and raped?
