I just helped my son file his federal for the first time, his AGI was just under 8,000 and he does pay rent and it looks like he may be getting just over 600$ back, It seemed like too much to me.

I just helped my son file his federal for the first time, his AGI was just under 8,000 and he does pay rent and it looks like he may be getting just over 600$ back, It seemed like too much to me.
I'm going to take it to a tax place I just wanted to hear someone elses take on it. I swear the math and everything looks right... Can't find ANY errors... Anyways, anyone out there savy with this find 8,000 AGI compatible with a 600 dollar federal return?

I think he would qualify, and if you hadn't calculated it yet, he could get more. At 8,000 he really should be getting almost everything back: Fed, State, Soc Sec, and Medicare. Unless you declare him as a dependant, then he might not get as much back.

No he is not doing an Earned income credit. The money was from unemployment (all of it) does he still qualify? I also just finished the calculations and it is more, 800 in returns to be exact. He was concerned though as he told me his return was only 61 dollars the past year, although he did not pay any rent that year and was working. As I said all of the calculations are correct...
