  • Raleigh NC WOOT!!!!

  • I followed your "instructions" to the letter and still can't get them to load into my 60CSx correctly. I don't get the "Custom POI" listing on my "Find" page. Am I doing something wrong here? I did download the GSAK macro for loading POI's in (same one shown in the vid) and used it IAW the vid.

  • @Mike55B55 I would need a little more information but one of the first things to come to mind is that either the gps was not in storage mode or the gps unit needed to be reconfigured in GSAK to the correct gps model. Again I am just guessing. Let me know if you still need help on this.

  • How much was this GPS? Thank You

  • @thegabsilla Sorry for the late response, I have been rather busy with filming GeoSnippits. That particular GPS goes about $125 - $150 depending on where you get it. Thanks for watching.

  • If you transfer data from mapsource like waypoint directly to sd card (and NOT connect your 60csx) will the waypoint a be transferred when you pop your sd card into the 60csx?

    and

If you transfer data from GSAK like waypoint directly to sd card (and NOT connect your 60csx) will the waypoint a be transferred when you pop your sd card into the 60csx?

Basically can waypoint be transferred without hooking up your 60csx to the pc?

  • Took me a second to realize what you were saying, I was confusing myself ;)

    To answer your questions..

For number 1 the answer is yes. If you put the files on your card they will show up as POIs in your 60CSx.

For number 2 the same thing as long as the format of the POIs are readable by the 60Csx it will come up.

    Thanks for asking...

  • They are not there under poi. I created the waypoints in mapsource - used the transfer to device feature and had it transferred to my sd carred and then put the sd card into the 60csx. Nothing shows up - besides shouldn;t it be under the waypoints graphic anyways. Not sure what i'm doing wrong but maybe this only works when the gps unit is attached to the pc?

  • i know how to put the gps in the special storage mode but where do i go on gsak to load all of my points of interest into my gps? i watched your video but still confusing

  • On the top section of GSAK is the word 'macro'. There you can go to an online macro site with dozens to choose from that will work with GSAK. The one I use is called 60csxPOI. Once you have the Garmin in storage mode then run the macro which will load the waypoints as POIs into the GPS. Remember you can load as many POIs into the GPS as the memory card will hold.

  • i still dont know how to run the macro. i cant seem to figure it out. is there somewhere that shows me a step by step?

  • Thanks for the education. I have a GPS on the way and am trying to get a headstart learning on to use it.

Question for you, is there a quick answer to why the price difference between handheld vs automotive GPS's is so great? A low end car gps w/ maps can cost less than the maps alone? Aren't they fundamentally the same hardware/software in different packaging? Or is it just en economy of scale/price discrimination thing?

  • Automotive GPSs are really just made for automobiles. They have all the on the road functionalities (traffic, weather, best route from here to there). They also are not as durable because they do not have to be. Handheld GPSs are outside and need to be water resistant, dropable and able to hold a signal under heavy tree cover. The price difference I think is just marketing and because the gizmo is made for cars and the demand for portable mapping systems is so high the price is higher.

  • Great videos, but the background music at times makes it hard to hear what you are saying. Other than that great job.

  • Yeah as we have progressed over Season One into Season Two we have learned what works and what does not. You will find in our more recent videos the music is much less loud.

  • Great information, love your videos.

  • Thank you thank you... Keep on coming back for more. -HHH

  • Great vid.. How about a hint on how to see the Custom POIs on the Map?

  • I am really enjoying this video series. I had no idea how to use the SD card so thanks for the lesson.

  • If you have any other questions, please let me know. -HHH

  • Would somebody be so kind as to rate these two videos.. Would greatly appreciate it... -HHH
