i know basic sign language but i was as confused as bette was...like she said it was just to fast for me to keep up. i made out a couple of the signs during the blurr of the hands but i was completely confused. haha. but watching these clips of bette and jodi i sure as hell learned new signs that i didnt know about. the more i watch marlee matlin's shows/movies the more signs i learn and also i sign more while I talk and my friends and even family pick on me because i do it.

I consider Ilene Chaiken a great writer, but developing characters also means giving each character their own way of expressing themself. In the L word every single character injects "fuck" in their speech. I think there are other ways of emphasizing feelings...if you've got the vocabulary, that is!

When people are angry (or in pleasure) they usually end up using vulgar language. "Fuck" has become expressive and plus, a lot of "hetero" movies and/tv shows have excessive swearing. It has nothing to do with portraying lesbians or pleasing American audiences. I believe it's to show feeling into the conversations. It doesn't matter... The L Word is an awesome show.

i think she said "i love the best i can" but i can't be sure. and while the sign "fuck me al night long" is a bit more complex, i can tell you that the sign for cunt is (if it is not finger spelled out, that is) uses both hands and si basically jusgt a triangle (point going towards the ceiling)so it looks like a vagina. lol. so yea. hope that helps...love this scene!

I love this scene. I've never seen two people fight in nearly total silence but still be shouting. When Jodi asks "Did you catch any of that" and Bette repsonds "...it seems like it went really well" is a classic! TLW simply MUST keep Jodi. With or without a relationship with Bette. Bette and Tina I think are circling each other for a potential return. Thoughts?

Wow--it's so different from most other TV fights simply because they aren't spending the whole time audibly shouting at each other, but it's still *so* intense.

I think it was filmed well too--the quick shots of just their hands flying in that kind of dismbodied way was a nice touch.
