cool, my dad is fireman, so I get to see lots of fire equipment and stuff all the time :) The firehouse he used to work at had a siren like this, but it was air powered, from a huge tank that could hold atleast 500 psi! They had a nice backup generator, and vintage power distribution board, that still to this day uses fuses xDxDxD
@Kurtreidable You want one of those? Google the company names Klaxon, Grifco, or Kheraj and they'll sell you one. A Kheraj siren of the same size as the one in this video will probably run you about $1,000 plus shipping from India.
@Thermoelectric7 I think gas turbines take the cake, especially when you get them to idle, then throttle up to takeoff power. The sound "hop" from ~n1 14% to idle speed is pretty cool :)
That is awesome!

@MrGerbilBrain I don't know about NZ, but rotary sirens driven by air motors were occasionally found in Australia.

I can't decide whether the sound of sirens like this or jet engines spooling up are better. Awesome siren nonetheless.

@Thermoelectric7
Motor sirens are awesome for their rather simple way of making a LOUD sound. They basically are turbines as well.
