I spent 90% of my childhood without my father, so I'm not trying to make escuses...however...lets take it way back. (T.D. Jakes made this connection)
When slaves were bought to the Americas, the males and females were mated like cattle, kids sold at birth, mother went to one plantation, father to another. After many generations of this (truly broken families - mothers often didn't know their kids and fathers didn't even know the mothers often) continued...
There is only one way to define any culture as civilized. The test is how they treat the woman, if there is equality its a civilized place. If there is little to no equality the civilization is barbious...
My Opinion - In most cultures women are the caretakers in the two-parent household. Whether or not the women work, at the end of the day, they are responsible for the "domestic tasks." So when a child is born to a single mother, that role remains with her. With the man living elsewhere, it's that much easier for him to do even less. Let's not kid ourselves, the average (not all) man won't be changing that diaper after work, unless she nagged him or he feels like doing her a "favor."
summerorchid1- Sorry for the delay; I respect ur opinion. However, the role of a parent, male OR female, does not only involve physical tasks. My vid focuses more on the emotional factors involved between a father and his child, especially a girl.
I agree that emotional support is vital , but physical tasks like teaching a daughter to play softball or listening to her talk about her day, as mundane as they sound do help to strenghten that emotional bond. (In my opinion) When I used the term caretaker- it's everything physical and emotional, I just used domestic tasks as an example, sorry I wasn't clear.
our people's sense of family and tradition was eliminated. Parents had no chance to pass on values to their children. It's been institutionalized in our black societies. Western blacks are just starting to unite and build a culture, others have been building their cultures for thousands of years.
Yea men & women get so caught up in the... I don't call it luv I call it Lust making. They don't think of what the outcome will be afterwards. Ladies you are offered sex more then men are the key is to be aware & have a good judge of character. Ladies you are the giver of birth Whoever you give your goods to will effect your future if you get pregnant. So please be careful on who you give it up too. check for signs is he the type to stay or split? Good video.
Amen, girl amen. The only men that should be offended are ones committing this very act. We all know that there are some men who are actually not only raising their kids but others as well. Good vid. Here's hoping that you find peace in this situation. I had an absent father too. You already know that you will survive and even thrive.

How moving. I like so many in the Black community can feel your pain even if we cannot completely relate. Peace to you sister.

I feel this one. My real "Dad" was my stepfather. My bio "dad" did not make himself available to me.
This is a touching vid, I experienced this in my life from both ends.
When one is MIA, someone else feels the pain. It's not fair.
