  • No need to go to the gym after starting that thing !

  • No shoes required.

  • nothing, there is a nub on it that forces it off when the crank shaft spins faster then the handle

  • internal combustion porn!...lol

  • were cna i get one of those and how much are they

  • were can i buy one of those

  • is the oil drum the fuel tank? because if so that should run for a very long time.

  • @brodie1709 The large drum contains water for the cooling of the engine. You can just see the end of the fuel tank on the other side of the engine!

  • is the oil drum the fuel tank?

  • What happens if you don't get the crank handle off in time?

  • Comment removed

  • Lister Diesels for sale.

W.C. Andree Engines & Power Systems

    wcaeaps.com

  • Andddd taking off the air filter and re-craking proved what exactly?

  • Are these hard to start in cold temps?

  • @jeep27190 ppl say that CS stands for Cold start! maybe you can.

  • how old is it

  • i like lister engines they start easely specially they have this compression lever to help withe the starting proccess

  • These have an amazing sound on start up. Does anyone know the capacity of these engine, Bore and stroke would do fine if you don't know.

  • If you are afraid it might kick back you should build a hand crank with ratchet function.

  • notice how the guy started it after he removed the crank. kickback problem solved

  • now that's my kind of engine :D

  • Why do you keep killing it and starting it?

  • To demonstarte starting, hence the tittle.

  • ah, my bad. now it makes sense.

  • @THOMASOAKMAN

    It ir a Commercial 4 something, I guess....? :-)

  • 1:39 nice bum LOL

  • how long will the engine run on one tank of fuel

  • they run B E A utiful

  • i'm new to diesel engines (of this size!)and what's with the barrel??

  • that barrel contains water for cooling

  • Electric starters and fuel cutoff switches are excellent retrofits that make these engines much safer and easier to work with...

  • why safer?

  • Electric start keeps your further away from the flywheels, and if you have fuel cutoff switches you can put a automatic shutdown on it. you can have sensors monitoring coolant temp and oil level and if the coolant gets to hot or the oil level drops it can automatically shut down the engine before a serious breakdown occurs.

  • If that thing kicks back, it will break your wrist. Electric starters don't have wrists to break, and have clutches to protect themselves.

Also, often they have the torque to force the engine to turn the right way anyways.

  • It also means a quicker start. You don't need to wait till you have it spinning and hope the flywheel can start it. You can kick it over with the fuel turned on, and any compression releases off, and it will still fire right off.

  • Never known a diesel to kick back,If you are afraid of it and don't get enough speed it will just stop dead and frighten you perhaps?

  • There's warnings on them. They do kick back. They're nowhere near as frequent offenders as older Model T's, which are just about guaranteed to snap your hand off if you forget to retard the timing, but in the off chance one of these does kick back, your wrist will act as a crumple zone for your elbow. They may only make six horsepower, but they have a TON of torque.

  • Yeah i have never herd of one kicking back either. Ive had times where I didn't get it over compression so it bounce back the other way. That wasn't a kickback though.

  • I have never ever had that happen... although, I did have a starting handle stick on the crankshaft (When I was a young lad, I don't know what happened)

  • itd compress the springs too much to leave em lifted

  • Neat!

I would've put the belt on the other flywheel - seems a bit scary to have the belt on the front like that.

I recently put up a video of mine running a direct drive home built alternator (for battery charging) you might get a kick out of.

  • Well, I think you actually start it from either side so you just turn the unit around I guess...?

  • why do you release the tappet lever when you stop it?
