I still own (but now rarely use) a 1982 PC-X45AD - less well specified than your "88" but produced some superb recordings for it's day - adres was great except for some "breathing" modulation effects during quiet passages (like all compander noise reduction systems). The tape transport and truly peak meters were great...
Wow - I have one of those decks. Love the way you can monitor the signal while recording so you can adjust for best sound.
