how the hell this fuckin genius of STAN LEE manage to create so many superheroes=X-men=mutant(s)?????? you real X6men don't hide stan I've got the proofs ....sign: WAX (mutant final Boss)
This was a great comic, and Steve Ditko did a great job. I loved his work enough that I wrote a review of his biography ''Strange and Stranger.'' If you want to read it search the Squidoo website for ''Strange and Stranger.''
Why is Green Goblin Spidey's worst villain, bcos he was so evil he broke apart Spidey's creators....
Seriously tho, thats just a rumour, but a fun 1, I like Ditko's idea of it being a perfect stranger but ovrall I think its right Norman Osborn is the Green Goblin
steve ditko i applaud thee.wonderful art, the original and best of all.a reserved private individual with gifted imagination and total integrity. god bless you and thanks for bringing colour and happiness to my life.
@FoxPlant2006 |Many young fans thought it wud end with ish 50. If u were a kid back then and knowing how many comic series never even got 2 #50 and u saw that title, u cud understand why
@mackishstyle well they are like the modern mythical heroes like the greek ones. i mean they are pretty mucht he same. look at the avengers and look at the argonaughts. they are the same a group of heroes from older stories hanging out together for the fans to get excited over
@y126e There was also an homage to this scene in the Batman Beyond episode "Heroes." It isn't too hard to miss, since the episode had a lot of Marvel references in it for a DC cartoon.
Lee seemed to remember this sequence in a fashion that is still impressive to him. He once said that "..Kirby thinks he created these characters just because he drew them." Lee thinks he created these scenes just because he filled in the captions and word balloons after Ditko told the story with pictures.
The fact that Ditko could illustrate the famous sequence tells me that Lee had almost nothing to do with it. The statement by Lee about the "metal.....iron something..." tells me that Lee had no idea what was going on. Ditko deserves far more respect than he's been given. He certainly deserves it more than Lee.
dude, he's OLD! cut him some slack! at that age after writing hundreds of different comics and different characters i wouldn't remember how Peter Parker was trapped in issue #13 panel 2 of Amazing Spidey!
@jorghad6 Yeah Stan is old but in all the Spider-Man stories from ASM 32-38 it says in the credits
"Script And Editing: Stan Lee"
"Plotted And Drawn: Steve Ditko"
any claim that Stan wrote all of those hundreds of different comics which range from Spider-Man and Dr Strange to Jack Kirby's Fantastic Four, Thor,
Captain America etc is kind of suspect especially since there is pretty clear evidence that Kirby and Ditko had a hand in plotting the comics they worked on.
@ClaudeParish Stan is eighty-eight years old and even before that he had a notoriously bad memory, cut him some slack.
While I do agree that Steve Ditko deserves far more respect than he's been given, Ditko never actually sought respect or recognition, he isn't/wasn't a public man, he didn't give interviews, he didn't allow for people to see the other side of the story. Stan got out there, Steve didn't
This, to me, is one of the many things that CEMENTED the fact that Steve Ditko is indeed the co-creator of Spider-Man.
Sure, Stan made the characters, the personalities, the depth, the humor of Spidey...
But Steve made the costume, the villian designs, how they moved... Everything so cool about Spidey and his villians. Not to mention his amazing way of creating tension within a comic, as he did here.
I've been hoping to interview STEVE DITKO. Currently have some phone conversations with him. Looking to post something by the end of summer. Note: Steve has never made a single dime from any of the Spider-Man movies. In fact, when asked what he thought about his name splashed across the screen as a 'co-creator' of Spider-man, he said this: "Don't matter. Never saw the movie. It's all water under the bridge now."
This is pretty amazing in the context of the "marvel method" where stan used to basically suggest the plot and then get it back to script. I guess it was pretty surprising to him when this particular scene was stretched out -- based on his comments
This is a very true statement and it's extremely unfortunate how few people know/appreciate the story input artists like Kirby and Ditko had on Stan Lee's most famous character inceptions/story arcs, etc. Marvel's characters are obviously inextricably bound to Stan Lee's imagination, but his illustrator partners are offensively undervalued by the population at-large and, sadly, even by sincere comic book fans.
@Hgclaw At least Stan the Man himself always gives those great artists their due, at least in the interviews and docs I've seen him speak on. Stan seems to lift up those around him, and underplay his own contributions. Media always just takes one figurehead and discards the rest. Stan Lee just became the face of comics even though without those imaginative artists, comics would be nothing.
@Terragen I can't argue with that. Since his profile has elevated so enormously by way of selling Marvel Comics to Buena Vista/Disney and selling film rights of various titles to various studios, he has credited his co-creators much moreso. I believe this behavior is contrived/relates to the fact that more people know the truth these days/that he hopes to foster a more benevolent public persona; it's more a matter of opinion. Surely, none of these great stories would exist without him.
Yep, Stan Lee is the Irving Mills of comics. His gift was always sales.
It has been said that Stan could reject a writer's script entirely, force him to rewrite it, and still make the guy feel like he had just won the lottery.
Ditko gets so good at the end of his run. He would have been the best spidey artist ever if he hadn't have walked out. He should have taken Stan Lee's word. Lee knows spidey better than anyone. Even Ditko.
what was lees word? again, this shows lee taking credit for a story created by ditko...all lee did was add the dialog....dialog that is absolutely worthless in these panels
In these panels, sure. But Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's Spider-Man is perfection and you can't have one without the other. The words alone are fine, but nothing without the art; the art is fine, but alone it lacks the character and whimsy of the dialogue. As much credit Steve Ditko has gotten (rightfully, of course) for plotting much of his Spider-Man run, it wouldn't have been nearly as good without Stan Lee's scripting.
In 1935 a woman was walking home then suddenly a man raped her then killed her by cutting her in half. Now that you've read this the ghost of the woman will kill you by cutting you in half. To avoid this post this on 5 videos within 3 hours of reading this.
@DRbiohazard You are so right! Bless Steve! So sad that he does not have more respect and he is still alive. I wish they could throw a bash for him at Comic-Con.

It's been said Spider-Man's story could have ended here with him redeeming his failure to save Uncle Ben by saving Aunt May. Luckily they continued.

No other issue shows the determination of Peter/Spider-Man to get to Aunt May.

Steve Ditko was the first to draw most of
Spidey's most famous foes (Dr.Octopus,Electro,
Green Goblin, Vulture, Sandman,Mysterio,Kraven
The Hunter,Scorpion and The Lizard).
This alone puts him along side Jack Kirby as
the most creative comic book artist of all
