@LizyPage Oh Yes! I have the 45rpm I bought in 1965..still like new ..it is definitely Jimmy singing.. and playing all the instruments, except the drums. Genius!
Things were different then. Before the Yardbirds, Page worked as a sessions musician, for the Kinks as well as many other bands, which meant he got a paycheck but very little credit for his work, so I'm sure he helped to write the song. Also, from what I understand, people were "borrowing" eachothers' work right and left back then and nobody gave it a second thought; we're far more anal retentive about it now.
With a better producer (and maybe manager) Jimmy Page could've made it as a solo artist with this effort. Not bad at all and better than anything Herman's Hermits did.
OH LAWD I love this! Jimmy is so awesome. And he's so humble lol in a 1974 interview with Creem Magazine he said, "There's nothing to be said for that record except it was very tongue-in-cheek at the time. I played all the instruments on it except for the drums and sang on it too, which is quite, uh...unique. 'She Just Satisfies,' that's what it was called. It's better forgotten."
@shmadsta Thank you so much for sharing this.. I'm so glad you did.. cause many people don't believe it's Jimmy singing. If you have a link to that interview, please please would you give it to me.... I would love to read it.. thanks.. Jimmy's fans are the coolest!!
I can't even tell if this song is good or not. To be honest, I listen to it just because Jimmy's voice is ... so... and he hardly ever speaks or sings. Shame on me, I guess...
@Markinks1 He stole a lot of songs. Whole Lotta Love was just a rip off of Muddy Water's "You Need Love" and Black Mountain Side is a rip off of Bert Jansch's Black Water Side. The 1st Zeppelin album only has 3 originals which are Good Times Bad Times, Your Time Is Gonna Come, and Communication Breakdown. He gets a lot of shit for it but he's not the only artist to "borrow" music from other artists, he just the only one to claim he wrote it himself. lol But he's still a rock ledgend.
@Markinks1 Exactly! But Jimmy just gets way to much shit then he deserves for it. It's like when Lennon said the Beatles were bigger than Jesus which was a HUGE misinterpretation.
@moogyboy6 Back then, managers and producers loved to get included in the credits because it meant even more money for them. In Larry Page's case, he may have actually helped write the song because, unlike a lot of managers, he was a minor pop star before he became a manager, so he had some experience with music. The stars were cheated out of so much money until the '70s and '80s...their managers and publishers got most of the money!
Hell, I may do a remake as a tribute to Jimmy...I like the song, and I think I could modernize it a bit and do it the justice it should have gotten when he originally wrote and performed the song.
Shy my arse...anyone whom can get in front of thousands of people and perform (any instrument or vocals) is definitely NOT SHY; and, he has sung back-ups on many Zeppelin tunes. What would be the difference when you talk about shyness?
I do not know why Jimmy did not have more confidence in his own voice, and while I understand WHY Led Zeppelin felt they couldn't continue after Bonzo's Demise, Jimmy should have done some solo work, words, lyrics, and all, insyead of trying to re-create Zeppelin with White Snake. Hell, I am a VERY good guitarist,(I have been playing 30 years) and would be proud to play with someone whom sounded as good as Jimmy even if he were completely unknown.
I love this song. I can't believe this is Jimmy. I don't know why he didn't sing more in Zeppelin.Although he did sing some background vocals in the group.
Wow, he can actually sing. I always thought he was a soft-spoken guy who couldn't sing, but this is pleasant surprise. He could have easily fronted a band himself (although we're all glad that he met Robert).
Can someone transcribe the lyrics? I'm spanish and I have problems with some parts. I can hear this, but I think it's no well at all. "And every evening ¿when I go well? she's at the door she makes me feel so good the way she loves me so, so good... So don't you better ¿stay with for away? she's my babe, he'd better ¿hear? what I say Good good loving, she ¿keeps?/¿gives? me ¿close?/¿'cause? to know, oh oh i'm gonna take her every ¿? I go." Thank you
AAAW. His voice is so perfect! Why does he think he can't sing?!
