same happened to me. and I managed to stop the car in control. I owe my life to have my both hands on the steering wheel. I always did. and I always will.
This happened to me a few years ago, except when my tire blew - I couldn't get out of traffic in time, and I got sideswiped by a Dodge Ram and hit in the side by a young woman in a Jaguar who had her kids the car with her! Luckily they were okay though. It's damn scary when cars are coming at you and you can't do anything about it - glad you and the other guy were alright. <3
0:04 far too close the back of that truck for comfort ... I think this was combination of skill and luck that you managed to only hit 1 vehicle. I'd say luck mainly since you can't really prepare for these sort of things. If it was about a second later you'd have definatly been entering the road death statistics book.
Sir,hav handle the situation very well, something like dis hapen 2me in Austria whilst on euro trip with my girl+my car, goin roun a bend (light rain)at 70-80mph car sudenly steped out from left rear, imediately my girl screamed as the car got 2 about 45 degree i stayed calm & counter steer'ed it & this time it step'ed out 2 the right & left again(aquaplaned) manage 2 control it & pulled in2 car park off the motorway, looked at the rear tires & rotation was wrong way round from tire shop Croatia.
Hey good video capture. I wouldn't have believed that a tyre blowout would have caused that. Well controlled too. What caused the van to roll? It doesn't seem to have made any contact with you. Also can I ask why you have a dashcam? I hope you and the occupants of the van were ok
Just this morning, a woman spun her car out and headed oncoming straight towards me, but I have to say she controlled it, like the guy in the video, very well to avoid me and a row of trees.
VERY well-controlled, I can't believe the ferocity that it went with- as said elsewhere you ARE lucky you didn't hit the reservation, I have to commend the quick thinking to get yourself into the hard shoulder in reverse as well!
Wow that was very well controlled, and how you managed to smoothly park on the hard shoulder so quickly :O I bet your life flashed before your eyes when the tyre blew
The spooky thing for me is, this could have ended so differently (glad it did not), but the music, it kept playing. Thats really strange to think about. No matter the outcome the music would just keep playing. I find that rather surreal and terrifying. Genuinely glad you are OK bud.
Well controlled and glad you were ok. Just out of interest, what did you do in terms of steering (i.e. left/right) and did you brake hard/lightly/not at all when you had the tyre blowout?
I'm very glad your ok but your loss of control was due to braking, had you just gently lifted off the throttle and allowed the car to slow down gently this would not have happened. This is a good example of how NOT to deal with a sudden loss of tyre pressure.
@darrenmparr Ahh yes! Thank you for proving my point which you were too daft to discern. The faux superiority of the British disposition to Americans is astounding. Don't blame yourselves though, its not your faults that your monarchy controls - a very anti-American - British media; I too would hate Americans if I'd grown up in such cultural desolateness. Cheers!
@DRN0524 The monarchy doesn't control anything, they have no real power. Their only purpose is in a ceremonial/ambassadorial capacity. No it's business men in suits (like Rupert Murdoch) who control our media and regularly abuse this control. Look up the News of the World phone hacking scandal in which people including royals and murder victims had their phones hacked to get the scoop on stories etc.
Holy shit that was nasty. This is one of the reasons why you should never over inflate your tyres and you must always physically inspect them every now and then to spot excessive wear, forming bulges and any other damage. This should be done least every time you check their pressures. Very lucky escape there, I hope you, yours and everyone else is okay.
nicely done, that could have been a lot worse, good driving, glad pretty much everyone ok, was the van driver ok? did you hit him or he just panic and decide to flip?
your very very lucky that off ramp was there or would have been a nasty story you hit the light barrier still doing about 60mph if that was the arm-co barrier could have been devastating glad your ok very good driving ...... off topic what do you use to record dash cam ?
Well controlled and glad you were ok. Just out of interest, what did you do in terms of steering (i.e. left/right) and did you brake hard/lightly/not at all when you had the tyre blowout?
@wannabemedic It all happened very quickly and its hard to remember what I done in the short few seconds it all took place in.
But I do remember trying to counter steer just after the trye blew, couldnt catch it in time though, The Stig makes it look so easy. The main thing that was going through my mind was to try and avoid as many objects as I could OH and to get out the bloody way of the on comming cars!!! would have been more fun on private land, just glad to be alive :-)
wow this is the first time ive seen a crash where people actually stop to help.. i saw this one video where a truck crashes into a bridge which collapses and people just drive on through the rubble

That could have been a lot worse for you; I thought for sure you were going to hit that guardrail and roll over, glad you didn't. How were the people in the van?
@CUBEoneVX A tire (in American English and Canadian English) or tyre (in British English, New Zealand English, Australian English and others) is a ring-shaped covering that fits around a wheel rim to protect it and enable better vehicle performance by providing a flexible cushion that absorbs shock while keeping the wheel in close contact with the ground.
@puretroubleman Well for me, tyre sounds stupid and incorrect, but oh well, who am I to complain. Even Google Chrome spell Checker says tyre is incorrect.
@CUBEoneVX In the UK which is where this video is Tyre is spelled correctly. In America it is spelled Tire. Ya know, just because two countries spell a word differently, does not mean it is spelled incorrectly.
I read somewhere that in the UK we originally had both Tyre & Tire.
"Tire" was the metal band they had wrapped round wheels on carts/carriages. It seems like we had stopped using "Tyre" in the uk from 16th/17th Century but it came back in fashion quite recently.. strange...
Apart from the blown tyre (and presumably the alloy being wrecked), what was the damage to your car after this? It doesn't look like you actually hit anything...!
No such thing as a blow out, the Tyre had a penatration or other slow leak and was running soft, untill the heat build up caused sudden air loss resulting in what happend. Im nit sure about car control, me thinks you were in for the ride.
Just want to let you know that I think you handled that vehicle brilliantly. Even as the crash was still going on, you managed to park the vehicle safely & out of everybody's way. I'm glad you're okay & I hope the people in the van are alright too. Great control & great luck missing that divider/barrier.
It appears that the car with the dash cam had received a pit maneuver. Thankfully, the car by passed the center divider, this could have been a more serious outcome. By the way, the persons in the van, were they ok?
I experianced a tire blow out 4 years ago in my old Seat Ibiza on the M8. I ended up on the roof at the side of the motorway. NOT FUN! Good to see yours ended not to bad :D
i like this video as other driver stop and helped, seen other crashes abroad and no one stops they just drive past even if the crash happens right in front of them.
when you watch american car crash videos people are like; 'duuuhh what just happened there?', in uk ones people are like; 'shit, go help these people right now', also the camera thing works both ways; if other people fuck up you can prove this, if it was you're fuck up you can just come out and say; "look i fucked up, what can i say?", courts should be lenient on that, after all if you put that camera in you're car knowing it will record you're own mistakes.....
You are lucky on so many levels. Firstly, you are lucky your car didn't roll - looked dry out there. Lucky you had dashcam (an insurer would otherwise just blame your driving), and lucky an off duty officer was there to back up what happened. And also, lucky your tyre blew when it did..on an exit slip entrance, so you had more room
Wow, u one lucky guy! How come the dash cam? Is it company enforced? If so, will prob be next move 4 my company after the trackers and 68mph limiter recently fitted in all our vans!
Man, if you did all that sliding in a controlled way, you're god damn awesome. First you miss the road split right after the blow up (no idea if just by chance or because you steered right). Hitting that might have been deadly - either stopping you instantly or sending you into a crazy multiple rollover. Then you go an inch behind that pickup van, do an 180 degree reverse turn and end up on the emergency lane... all I can say is WOW !!!
@SINEKT I don't think he missed the road split, he did hit it a little bit. That's what stopped the car from rolling over when he was skidding, if it wasn't for that i actually think it could've been deadly. But i have to say, that reverse parking was great!
Lasy year on the M40 I was passing an articulated lorry just as one of it's tyres blew, it sounded like a 12 bore shotgun going off,the force of it raised my car and moved it sideways, I had initially thought i had been in contact with the lorry, but that was impossible as we were well apart, to be alongside a lorry tyre blowout is quite frightening, no harm was done and the driver apologised if it had frightened me. An accident such as yours, you did well to come out unscathed - happy days!!!!
same happened to me. and I managed to stop the car in control. I owe my life to have my both hands on the steering wheel. I always did. and I always will.

@southboyzlondon Their would be no way....I would upload this video if I was trying to make that exit!
That would be evidence for dangerous or reckless driving.

when you watch american car crash videos people are like; 'duuuhh what just happened there?', in uk ones people are like; 'shit, go help these people right now', also the camera thing works both ways; if other people fuck up you can prove this, if it was you're fuck up you can just come out and say; "look i fucked up, what can i say?", courts should be lenient on that, after all if you put that camera in you're car knowing it will record you're own mistakes.....

You are lucky on so many levels. Firstly, you are lucky your car didn't roll - looked dry out there. Lucky you had dashcam (an insurer would otherwise just blame your driving), and lucky an off duty officer was there to back up what happened. And also, lucky your tyre blew when it did..on an exit slip entrance, so you had more room
deathstardisco 1 year ago
Wow, u one lucky guy! How come the dash cam? Is it company enforced? If so, will prob be next move 4 my company after the trackers and 68mph limiter recently fitted in all our vans!

Eh?? Tire blows out....you lose control...bump another vehicle...skid across 3 lanes and you managed to tune in your radio. Man...that's control !!
I'm just kidding. Glad you are ok.

Good Job, Could have been alot worse....
Was all people involved in the car accident, including your self Ok?? Was the Vauxhall Van Driver ok?
At the end of the day, roads, crash barriers and cars can be mended, but a loved persons life can't be!!
MarkMck1994 1 year ago
Man, if you did all that sliding in a controlled way, you're god damn awesome. First you miss the road split right after the blow up (no idea if just by chance or because you steered right). Hitting that might have been deadly - either stopping you instantly or sending you into a crazy multiple rollover. Then you go an inch behind that pickup van, do an 180 degree reverse turn and end up on the emergency lane... all I can say is WOW !!!
SINEKT 1 year ago

An accident such as yours, you did well to come out unscathed - happy days!!!!
angleseychap 1 year ago
You can even hear the tyre blown at 0:09 well done in trying to keep control of the car mate.
