Can anyone tell me where i can find a goal scored by Gil for brasil, vs england in 1978 , its for a bet and cant find footage anywhere !!! tks from eire
The 1978 WCup game ARG 6-0 PER was fixed so the hosts could get to the final, and not Brazil. They also made sure Brazilians got the worst stadiums in the first round and that Brazil had to to travel by bus in between games to far venues. The 1986 Cup was a clean win by Maradona and friends. That was not fixed! ( And I am Brazilian! )
Rivelino did play well the 1978 Cup. He only played in few games because DT Coutinho sidelined him. Check the whole 3rd Place videos here BRA2-1 ITA and see it!
I was ten at that time and I cried when Dirceu scored the second Brazilian goal. The Italiam team was the biggest surprise of that World Cup. It is said that Brazilian team (trained by Claudio Coutinho) did not play well but we have to think that the referees were not fair to Brazil.
After their mediocre performance in 1974, the Brazilians had been written off by the experts, but in 1978 they returned with a vengeance. Unlike Argentina and Holland, they finished the tournament unbeaten.
yes they won...but in that system it was possible not to lose and still not win the Cup...yes, Brazil didn't lose a game, but Argentina did!!! they lost 1-0 to Italy in the first round...although, I prefered that old system to be honest. Instant knockout, Golden goals and so on now are rubbish...
well no actually, Brazil lost in 1982, so they WERE beatable! Italy played a fantastic game that day to win 3-2 and they desrved it...Brazil had no defence or goalkeeper, so you can't expect to win with only exciting forwards...Italy was the complete package, just like 2006! sorry, I'm not a Brazilian fan at all...
No problem, I respect that...I love good football and great goals and exciting games...just that I'm an Italian fan (no real choice! I was born there, haha)
heh, well, I'm Romanian..so,we're basically pretty much related(in a way) :S
I've always been a brazil fan, what can I do. however, I cannot deny that italy has the best football(soccer) in europe. it's a fact. their achievments speak for themselfs :)
today system is better, and in 1978 there have been 16 teams, today 32, so it is impossible to return to 1974 or 1978 system. and the advantage of the ko-stage is the extratime, which offers a lot of drama. in 1978 system only the final could have extratime. and the most tension game 1978 was the final by far, and because of extratime.
These highlights are from the 1978 World Cup. This match is the 3rd place playoff between Brazil and Italy. Italy scored the first goal: that striker was Franco Causio. However, that goal is not shown here. So you only see the two brazilian goals. The final score was: Brazil 2 - Italy 1

absolutly..I agree.
I do believe brazil should have won the 1982 WC. their team was unbeatable.... It's too bad they lost 3-2 to Italy :(

They did lose,I know. when I said they were unbeatable, I refered to their overall playing achievments.
brazil never had good defense and good goalkeepers. they game play is based on "if the other team scores 3 goals,we'll score 4"
and the fact is, they are the best in the world, wether you are a brazil fan or not.
personally, I am not a fan of the italian calcio. they are good, but too dry for my taste. :)

Correcting : 1st Goal Nelinho 2nd Goal Dirceu
And Italy would give back to Brazil a painful defeat in the following world cup in a match known as the "tragedy of Sarriá"
