  • I like lemon and I like lemon...and I really LOVE this band!!!

  • trying to tell the difference between lemon and lime

  • If anybody's interested, I posted some XTC demo tracks. Just punch in XTC and list by date added.

  • This is some good shit!!!

  • Grrrrrrrrrrrreat work!

    Classic!

    Poetry!

  • Drums & Wires,Black Sea, English Settlement the tops from Moulding/Partridge duo. Anyone got 'English Roundabout for upload? upload it.

  • During that time the song cames out i lived in Mecklenburg. northern East Germany... and i heard this song first on NDR overborded... and felled in love with it....

  • My folks got cable T.V about a week or two after MTV premiered- Autumn 1981.I was eleven.MTV played this all the time. This is really early MTV memories for me,folks. It's so weird when a certain song can take you back decades and make you feel like it was yesterday.Or something like that

  • really weird since it is the first time i listened to this song;)

  • also see dukes of stratosphear

  • I'm speechless ...

I cannot believe how divine their music sounds.

Bravo to the poster of this.

    True Diamond!

  • great song !

  • Seems that you know jack shit, if you think this is gay you need to seek help ! You probably prefer Celine Dion or some other shite.

  • a very creative thoughtful song - nice melody

  • without trying to plug anything, we played this song and other rare songs on Pipeline Radio's Podcasting service which is damn good!

  • Adam and Joe on BBC 6 Music played this tune on their pre-recorded Christmas show (12/20/08 broadcast date) and I am pretty sure this is the first time I have ever heard the song on radio anywhere. The hook sure did sound familiar though--I immediately was visualizing Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber getting all duded up to meet Mary. Was this song in the movie but left off the soundtrack?

  • yeh i think it was in the film, i heard it and thought that :)

  • its not from 92

  • this was my 1st 7" vinyl ever and av still got it...magic

  • Me loves XTC.

  • i think the police has its interestings musical developments, like what they did with reggae...in ther firsts albums, but listening to XTC you`ll find tons of brilliant ideas per each record. it has been said once and again, and i`ll only repeat it: what a band!!!

  • Great song. Hook after hook!

    Pop at it's finest...

    What a bassline!

    Is it fretless?

The 'slippin and slidin' and double stops he does at 1:19 - 1:55 sound a bit like Colin could be playing a fretless, but my "36 years of rock bass playing" ears could be mistaken?

    Fantastick songwriting.

"Mayor of Simpleton" another pretty bassline!

  • Also, for you young ones, did y'all ever here of XTCs alter ego band, DUKES OF STRATOSPHERE! Great tribute to the Beatles without an exact copy. One of my favorite albums evah. I think they did two eps but if you get the cd it has both. I love it 20 years later. Yes, I'm old. but I know the difference between the police, the talking heads, and xtc!

  • there is some style similarities but I think xtc was waaaaaaaaay more interesting and diverse. Can't even compare and I actually loved the Police back in the day as well. I just love XTC even more. BBC Sessions, anyone? if you haven't heard them, go find them, buy them.

  • XTC>>>>>>>>>>>Police

    It's true

    XTC is God

  • XTC and The Police are two different groups. Can't compare them other than they both have drums and guitars.

XTC lyrics are much more clever.

  • The Police (Sting) never had an idea ,musical or lyrical, that even approached the depth or complexity of thought that Andy Partridge of XTC displayed with regularity.

The Police were a talented bunch of musos, but XTC leave them for dead when it comes to original ideas.

  • the police, BIG TIME

  • well the police are good obvious pop. xtc is is different. it depends on what your taste.

  • Xtc vs. Police who wins? Asking all Englishmen.

    Yours truly, Mr Yank

  • The Polce? Are you serious?

  • I think a guy in the above comment said it best. You can't compare the two groups. You just can't!!! That aside this track is brillant. I don't think I've this since 1982. You wanna know how long ago that was??? It was a life time ago. Boy, was the world different then.

  • mrevanmylo .. is your head shaped like an oblique-spheroid or just your bollocks?

  • man i wish i grew up in the 80's . . .

  • for all intensive and medical ...XTC is all done. unfortunate, but what isn't

  • Great band, fab song - if the Kaiser Chiefs were half as good as XTC I might buy an album of theirs (I'm sure they listen to XTC when they write)

  • great song!

does anyboy know is they are going to release DVD?

  • xtc has about 10 albums that are all great. go to a good music store. please.

  • and all the world is football shaped ! ? not soccer shaped moron! football is not fucking soccer - a marathon is not a fucking snicker and opal fruits are not fucking star bursts ok

  • love the comments mate. nice one

  • The football is shaped like an oblique-spheroid.

  • HAHAHA fukin classic response

  • i loved this song

  • classic!

  • Sleep Siefley!!! haha dumb asses

  • So what happened to "buses might skid on black ice" ? Did someone mis-construe it as "guys" and freak out about it?

  • Blimey!!!1

  • anyone remember The Dukes of Stratosphere?

  • This song is their crown jewel. Yeah, I have followed this band through the years. I found alot to like and dislike. This is XTC at it`s best. This song is that much special as oppsed to anything they have done after including Dear God. Just my opinion.

  • Hey Mr Andrews!!!

  • try saying that round the back of local in Reading. ARSE

  • check out(DOUG MAC DONALD BAND)

  • best album!!!!!!

  • one of the most underated bands ever

  • MPFN is a lot better than this.

  • brilliant song

  • Fucking class this man, Nick Cave you are havin a laff aren't u Bayview!!

  • What it means is you have a nerve calling this when you have utter shit like nick cave on your favourites... comprende! Or is this too British for you as well. Rule Britannia best music in the universe.

  • You're an absolute c**t. There's literally no other way to put it.

  • WAY ahead of their time huh?

  • Timeless

  • a great song on one of their best albums

  • Is that a Rickenbacker I see in Dave's arms?

    I'm getting guitar envy.

  • i recorded this on cassette back in 1983...damn i'm getting old.

  • CHIN CHIN DITTO nice one mate.

  • Love this song.

  • This makes me proud te be a fukkin PUNK.

    Bahahahahaha!

  • Excellent song! Stands up to anything out there today.

  • Try and get a hold of the double album English Settlement(which this is from) on vinyl.(Easier said than done mind you!)It was produced using some form of "groove compression"(don't ask me what that means!)What I DO know is that on a good system it sounds f@@@in great! Especially through a good set of headphones.

  • I love this song.

  • I haven't heard that song since it came out.

  • Has anyone heard the Mandy Moore version? She does a Todd Rundgren song, too. She's not only cute, she's almost cool.

  • Sandy Shaw?

  • What very well might be a perfect song. Love.

  • I have that same Rickenbacker. I'm the luckiest boy in the whole world!!

  • Thanks for all the XTC-Stuff here...my 100 best of songs ever ? There were min. 20 Songs of XTC....,Costello, TalkTalk, NewOrder....but not with 20 songs, only XTC bring so many pieces for my heart...

  • Classic! love "making plans for nigel" too.

  • It's infinitely superior to "Nigel", which is not bad.

  • Hi awnplmigo, yeah it is.....I agree. "Nigel" bizarrely has sentimental value to me though, don't ask! :D XTC are criminally underrated, wish more people would wake up and listen to them....they don't know what they are missing.

  • i,ve got a dirty

  • I remember this coming out long before the Talking Heads became popular

  • Couldn't be. Talking Heads had a big album that exact same year. "Once in a Lifetime" was the big hit.

  • most beastly sond in the world punk licks ass

  • a lot call them the english copy of talking heads. if it is so, the copy is better than the original

  • I agree. And I don't think XTC and the Heads are really similar. The claims that they're influenced by the Heads are very demeaning. Andy's chief inspirations are The Beatles, Judee Sill and Captain Beefheart.

  • Agreed awnplmigo--- I have to agree totally that there is no similarity whatsoever(granted I'm not a fan of Talking Heads to begin with)between the two. XTC was also heavily influenced, as many were, by the New York Dolls.

  • i saw this band on lettermen with andy not on lead vocal are you kidding me?

  • Yea, Colin sings too!! "King for a day" just to name one.

  • and making plans for nigel of course!!

  • Me encanta XTC!!!!!

  • Is it not amazing that no matter how much time passes, this music rings true today. Check out Generals and Majors,.... Sad but true, our world today. Why can't everyone live in harmony. We only have today, for tomorrow has no prediction.

  • i love these guys!!

  • Wheres Andy's soldiers?

  • We are here and armed.

    Glyndwr

  • xtc fucking brill.

Solve world problems instead of wanky politicans.

    XTC underestimated at the time.

    Glywndwr

  • frickin' LOVE this song

  • oh what bloody GOOD days, one of my faves too.

  • one of my favorite tunes.

    by any band.

    brilliant.

  • They have alot of socially significant songs

  • That 12 string guitar is bloody awesome

  • Terry Chambers! One of the great, great drummers of the late 20th century! Now he's a building contractor in Australia! Would you believe it? Apparently his son is a drummer and is getting lots of recognition in Sydney

  • English Settlement is an AMAZING album both musically and lyrically.

  • tru dat. anyone who hasn't picked it up yet, go to itunes and download. it's incredible

  • i know one of the "fakers" very well,YOU ARE NO FAKE MATE,YOU ARE A GENUINE CUNT.

  • i feel out of place being young, but I absolutely love XTC (dad got me into it)

  • Same here, my dad has really cultured me in music

  • love this song. think the xtc-catalogue has a lot of songs matching those of lennon/mccartney.

  • OMG I forgot about this song...I was in Grade 9 when this came out..lol yeah I am an old fart!!

  • WELL I WAS 7 YEARS OLD AND U WERE.......5 TEEHEE..;) NO GREAT GROUP p.."CHIN CHIN" GO THE CHAMPAGNE FLUTES..

  • 7 also. I loved it then, but I didn't appreciate XTC as a band until many years later when I randomly had an urge to buy everything I could by them. Glad I did.

  • YES BLIMEY IVE NOT HEARD THIS IN TIME.. LOVE XTC!!! CHEERS pM4.. :):):)

  • the toast is returned yur way my sweet.... i have loved them since " 79

  • British heritage at its best, listen and learn..........up there, with the strawberries and cream of the crop.

  • My dad made me listen to this song, at first I hated it but now it's one of my faves!!! I can never stop singing it!

  • excelente

  • well dont listen then pal

  • You "failed in life" when you thought you could post funny comments but couldnt even spell 'DECENT' right...

  • Shit, I was trying to work out what descent music was!!! Music that goes down through the genres...??!!!

  • I first heard this in 1982, in the Army basic training. What a nostalgia trip a quarter of a century ago!!! It still sounds great!

I know lots of these 80's stars get tired of hearing that everyone still likes their old stuff, instead of jumping onto their later works. But, this is not disrespect of the newer works, but an acknowledgement of the truly great artistic achievement they did earlier.

I digress. Andy Partridge and XTC are the Beatles of the 80's and beyond.

  • so wonderfully awkward. growing up listening to XTC made me the girl i am today.

  • ::le sigh::

I adore XTC with every fiber of my being.

One of my all-time favorite bands ever.

  • ...fooking brilliant English song and band!!

  • I Love XTC, I was 9 when this song came out. Now I do an awsome strip act to this song.

  • Post a video, please! :)

  • These guys are absolutely amazing and apparently by some of these other comments underated. I would respond to them by saying shut your eyes and "listen" brainless. That's what music is all about.

  • i <3 u andy!

  • I heard these guys on the radio along with, Modern English, and, Echo & the Bunnymen on a hot day in the 80's....It was a heavy day!

  • Had the Psychedelic Furs been thrown in there you may not have made it through that day.

  • I love this song! If only I was alive in 1982

  • Remember when this came out 1982, wow easy days and wicked tunes (and Youth!)

  • Good Lord this tune is so good it makes my groin tingle...all these years and it still sounds fantastic!

  • great song

  • Blimey, 26 years old and still pretty fresh and dare I say cutting edge. Hats off to the producer and the boys.

  • I think the lot of you needs to get the hell off of the computer and take a walk. Your "witty" banter is about as enjoyable as a colonoscopy sans ether.

  • ...said the meddlesome busybody who did not want a world where men exchanged witty banter.

  • This isn't witty banter. It's some dork pretending to be Andy Patridge, followed by same said dork playing silly games. You're about as witty as irritable bowel syndrome, although your output appears to resemble it.

  • Who is pretending to be Andy Partridge?

What you see is some poster suffering from bad reading skills and WHO hallucinated, which made him believe another to be Andy Partridge.

Also, you see hundreds of dorks Idol Worshipping a has-been, bar-band skilled player who road the coattails of his band mates during the years that anyone could get a record contract.

However, all can read your scatologic fantasies from your incessant focus.

    Dude, get help.

  • Sorry, mate. Patridge is brilliant. He's not a bad player, either. Since I've been playing for nearly 30 years and am not a bad player myself, I recognize them when I see them. Yeah, DG is a better guitarist, but so what?

Patridge is nearly unsurpassed in this day and age for lyrical skill, and his music is incredible. Sorry, you're just a hater. You should learn from Patridge about being a nice person. :)

  • And here the freakshow that is miaastro keeps ongoing.

You'd think he could take some anti-psychotics, sit back and watch a video.

Of course, all the Colin penned and sung songs are the best ones.

  • Who's pretending you freakshow?

Again, I don't know why this dweeb miaastro has the fantasies he does, yet, all can see he has problems. Go to the Psych Ward of your local hospital. stat.

  • 1,2,3,4,5 senses workin OOooooovertime!

  • I can't find Colin and Dave isn't talking. Barry is a mate.

Terry's happy building houses in Australia.

    Reunion? Tough nut to crack.

  • "I can't find Colin and Dave isn't talking"

Yes, probably because you're pretending to be Andy Partridge on youtube! You freak! That's enough to scare anyone!

  • I don't know what fantasies this dweeb miaastro has.

Yet, miaastro is like many Youtubers, homeless library freaks, In short, fucking assholes.

  • Ha ha ha!!And people like DREWBERT think you're Andy Partridge!!! You're not coherent enough to even pretend to be him!

    Simpletons indeed!!

And Drewbert, kiss your ass?? Jeez, maybe you're the perv!

  • If you took a moment to look at past comments from other pages you'd see that cleverbobby and I were having a laugh about TruthAxe. Look on the past back pages I knew he was'nt Partridge. Unless Andy likes talking shit about himself, and thinks Richard Benson is some god.

  • My apologies Drewbert, I honestly thought you believed the freak that is Truthaxe was Andy Partridge. If you want, I'll point you towards a website where Andy does actually post, he answers fans Q's and is great fun, that's how I know Truthaxe ISN'T him!

  • TruthAxe is retarded. I'm not bothering with the clown any longer. Meanwhile, Andy is still probably the foremost lyrical genius of modern pop music. Easily up there with Squeeze, The Beatles, The Stones, etc. Just a shame Andy wasn't as commercial as they were. Oh well. Still brilliant nonetheless.

  • Andy...have you guys ever thought of doing a reunion tour with all original members?

    Nat

  • A classic song by a classic band! I miss XTC!!!
