  • Thorpe is so smarmy!!!

  • Thorpe is the absolute worst.

  • The look that crosses between Sister and Brother (the Thorpes) is not right!! Isabella looks like the flirting type if you know what I mean! How rude!! She was talking!! Mr. Tilney doesn't come off as false; much less his sister, But; knowing how I was then/shes alot like me; I would have believed them. How rude!! Almost ran down that poor man!! Thats one against him for me. Besides the way he was looking at Catherine while shes was dancing; and at the bookstore. I would've grabbed those reins.

  • For some reason I always want to see what the book/movie would be like if Catherine did marry John....

  • thrope >;(

  • I swear i used to have a friend who is totally like a today's version of Isabella Thorpe....=P gosh, i so hate this kind of people...

  • not even in the 1800 i would walk alone in desolated places with wird people just because they smile at you doesn't mean they won't hurt you. specially someone you just meet.

  • He's just lied to her and he speaks to her like he's the wise old man. Turkey. They deserved to get rained on. She should have gotten down but she's not used to liers and feels the child. The sister is in league with her brother pretending that Catherine is so pretty to her brother. It's a good lesson to learn. People who flater you for their own ends shouldn't be trusted.

  • The Thorpe's are so selfish, it's ridiculous..

  • The Thorpe's are dicks!

  • 4:43 - I think Catherine needs to read Persuasion and learn not to let herself be persuaded against her true feelings. GET OUT OF THE CART.

  • ok this movie is weird.. i dont like it

  • "then...perhaps I should come with you." "PLEASE..." jeez, I don't like the way he said that. It sounded like John Thorpe was threatening her. "Please - or I will kill you."

  • Oh my goodness. Mr. Thorpe is so creepy...Although he seems more reasonable in this scene than in the book. He just keeps driving on and swearing and talking about himself...

  • Comment removed

  • 0:43 way to kill the mood XD

  • Catherine seems very naive about the Thorpes. Maybe being a nerdy bookworm did her no good!

  • Flying sheep @ 5:20, lol!

  • @masushan : No, jumping sheep.

  • gosh, I hate the Thorpes sooo much..sneaky, loathsome, manipulative freaks...=//

  • I had to do deep analysis of the book. I had to write about 50 essays on it! I know it inside out. lol

  • Comment removed

  • dear John, I dont like you. Infact, hardly anyone does. xP

  • I don't think John is a bad guy. He's just... ugly. Ew. lol I like Henry much better.

  • @blubryfields4evr Actually he's meant to be very manipulative and quite rude, I guess the actor is just too likeable.

  • I really dont think John is that bad, honestly.

  • @Wunglepire Read the book version; your skin will crawl. Yuck. He's pushy, rude, selfish, proud, immature, and a big fat liar. Isabella's worse as well-- she exaggerates about every little thing like nobody's business!!

  • It is my greatest fear that I am in fact a type of Isabella Thorpe.

  • I dont like john -.-

  • @MzSr257 you and i both

  • I don't know why but I always laugh when he say 'Will you move your sheep!' It really amuses me x

  • Eleanor seems way older than Catherine. That's not in the book! I totally dispise Thorpe from this point on... what a jerk.

  • Comment removed

  • @livn4hevn According to the book, Eleanor is 22. She tells Catherine at one point that their mother died when she was 13. When Catherine asks how long ago it happened, she says that it was 9 years before.

But I agree...she does look a little older than 22.

  • the Thorpes are both creeps...why don't her brother warn her about these people? is he also daffy? Catherine open your eyes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • YUK!!! Mr. Thorpe is so uglyyy!!!! :P hahaha

  • omg James Thorpe and his sister are so deceiving

  • @sidraqsa its john thorpe...james is catherine's brother.. :)

  • "we will always tell the truth...." *COUGH *COUGH*

  • my god, catherine is so damned naive!

  • OMG @5:19 a sheep jumps! I know completely off subject but WOW!

  • @ejl96xx hahahah

  • "our mother is dead " *awkward pause*

"so this is ur first time in bath"

  • that whole convo is akward...well this movie is so..

  • No, wait. Kick him TWICE!

  • Kick him! LIAR!

  • Man,I hate that creep!

  • I so hate this stupid worm :( grrrrrr

    He lied to you, girl!

  • ugh mr. thorpe is unbelievebly annoyin and ugly ://

  • I'd tell that jerk who made me break my promise that he can shove it.

  • I love when Henry comes back with three drinks. He's so delicious

  • It's too bad Catherine can't read people. There are so many actions of the Thorpe syblings that she should have picked up on immediately. She was raised to think all people are honest. These girls were so protected that they just didn't know and were easy marks. Bath reminds me of a meat market in some ways but I suppose for the higher class it was a way to meet people whom you normally wouldn't be around. Does anyone know what months the "season" was during?

  • I would love to live back then........ But then again I don't, for I would be a slave for all the people shown. That is worse than living in this era........

  • @King01982 There were slaves in England before there were slaves in America. Forced labor for plantations were in the West Indies I believe. And there were slaves in England during this period but they were very expensive. "The Count of Monte Cristo(sp)" shows this. YT has that version. They were a novelty and it was fashion to have one in your household. England banned the act before America. I'm trying to remember dates. Will have to look it up. No offense. :)

  • Shut your mouth, Isabella!

  • @clpearson991 Why would you be a slave? There were no slaves in England back then, other than women.

  • @TheBlueyedblond

I'm sorry, I think you replied to the wrong person.

  • But why is her brother agreeing with Thorpe. Is he just stupid?

  • John Thorpe resembles what I imagine a toad would look like in human form...

  • @mrsrochester10 I always thought he looked like a lion in human form. But I do see a toad resemblance!

  • @mrsrochester10 i love you for saying that!

  • @kistershi ur so right-i guess those r the folks that expect the movie to follow the book to a T

  • Haha I love watching this then reading all the funny comments XD

  • "SCOUNDREL!!!!" lol mr allen XD

  • @dairshipper Almost running down Mr. Allen should have told Catherine something. And they aren't a half a mile from her lodgings before he starts grilling her about money and proves a lier. Three things that should have raised flags had Catherine known what flags to raise! lol Plus he talks to her like she's a child and is mad that he's caught out in a lie. Imagine being married to a guy like this for the rest of your life. YUCK.

  • Omg, that light haired guy is so disgusting >_< I HATE HIM!

  • I love the Irony of the line "We must be careful making new acquaintances, we’re not all as honest as you and I".

You silly tart! You just lied to her about Tilney not coming to see her! Thorpe is just a douch bag.

    XD

  • thorpe is a douche bag.

  • he curses quite a deal to much!

  • I truely do hate Mr Thorpe!!!!! What a horrid man!

  • I truely do hate Mr Thorpe!!!!!

  • Thorpe, you jerk-face! I knew you were lying to her..

Catherine, why didn't you slap him in the face and jump out of the carriage? That's what I would have done... *pouts*

  • Thorpe likes to Damn it alot....quite frankly it's getting a bit annoying/

  • UGH. Thorpe is unbearable! WHY she didn't jump out of that carriage and find Mr. Tilney is beyond me...

  • The comments made about this movie are hilarious! Especially the ones about Thorpe! lol

    Keep them coming!

  • thorpe's cockney accent is shining through lol

  • What would the men think if they could see you!? Good grief Isabella, they'd probably give you a shall of some sort!

  • "true friends" my ass!! -.-"

  • poor naive girl

  • @minnie110 i know U_U *sigh* lol

  • the look on Tilney's face when he has the three drink things and Cathrine is gone, is just so cute/sad. oooooo I LOVE HIM!!!

  • Sorry but the second he stoped the cariage I would have climbed out, called him a lier, that I never want to see him again. I would walk back and try to find the Tilneys, it is Mr. Tilney she is interested in not Mr. I Am Very Rude. Deffinatly would not have stayed for the whole speach, he lied he does not deserve to be heard out.

  • thorpe has ugly teeth...

  • Thorpe is a jerk...

  • poor mr. tilney his look was so funny when he she went away and he was left with three ice creas or whatever they were.

  • keep your mouth shut thorpe!!

  • Thorpe is a proper creep :|

  • I feel for poor Catherine. Every girl at some point or another knows what it is to be admired by someone she dislikes and to not have the attention of the man that she wants.

  • @livelongnprosper92 Being a woman must be tough, being admired by so many.

  • @livelongnprosper92 I'm reading the book right now, and your comment is just like what the book says, "Every young lady has at some time or another known the same agitation. All have been...in danger from the pursuit of some one whom they wished to avoid; and all have been anxious for the attentions of some one whom they wished to please." haha, see, u & Austen think alike.

  • "My dear little scatterbrain sister." LOL

  • I know Catherine is meant to be naive, but she comes across as kind of dim. I think it's in the way her mouth is always open when she's confused...

  • isabella is played by the same girl who played kitty in P&P [the one with kiera]

  • @AnnaBxox24 yep, Carey Mulligan is also the lead in An Education.

  • It's usually the crreeps that drive us mad (in all the meanings of the word)!!!

  • God, Thorpe gets on my nerves!!

  • thorpe says damnit way too much!

  • The creppy troll needs to get slapped.

  • Thorpe is such an pompous prig! ugggh!

  • @Sunnyboy0294 sorry i marked down, i meant up :\

  • how ridiculous she was to not have gotten out of that carriage

  • love it.............

  • John thorpe...what an ODIOUS CREEP!

  • Hah. I like Thorpe. but im only halfway through this part.

  • John Thorpe is horrible. I hate him.

  • SO much for then and enjoying themselves

  • I'm begining to really dislike the Thorpes...after the episode with the carriage...Good,he's uglyyyyyyyyy...

  • this is so real life. I kind of have the same problem as Catherine, running into the best people and being confused by those who say their your best friends but just happen to like bullying you like the Thorpes. Sometimes it ends with badly, all these first impressions, Catherine is at least lucky she finds her true friends at the end.=)

  • he looks like a frightening ape.

  • Whoa. Some back bone is needed here.

  • Geez, Catherine is sooo easily persuaded

  • Comment removed

  • honest as you and i.... presumptuous much.

  • "SCOUNDREL!!!" lol

  • As annoying as the Thorpes are, Cathy's brother is by far the most annoying in this scene, sees absolutely nothing!

  • Cathy and James are both very naive, but yeah, James is definitly worse. When he's with the Thorpes, he just succmbs to their peer pressure.

  • @MoonPhase94 yeah, its nice to know peer pressure is ancient lol. I'm very naive like catherine sometimes, its pretty sad.

  • Scratch that. -_-

  • UGH I hatred the part where she is persuated to go wit the other people instead to go wit the tilneys :(

  • This is a very good video.

  • Hes so dreadfully ugh! So so should of jumped out ..she is meek like a lamb

  • can't believe, that she just couldn't jump off the carriage after it stopped and run back to the tilneys. Why would she believe that idiot and give a damn about his rude justifications?! ugh!!!

  • Speeding! Omg! He sooo deserves to lose his license!

  • Thorpe's actor is very well chosen, it's just something in his features that screams jerk. ;)

  • A cuntie prick? xD wow !

  • He says "canting prig of a parson". lol

Canting is like moralizing or tedious conversation. A prig is someone who is self righteous. So, a stereotype of what a parson would be.

  • Thorpe is a (insert any bad name you feel appropriate)!!!

  • a CUNT?!

  • how can catherine be so easily persuaded to go with them, when she knows that the other two may still be coming.. i would endure the disappointment and embarassment of them not showing at all rather than leave them to show up and be left with no one there

  • Oh man, this may sound weird, but I think it would be fun to have those sort of dances where I am. It would sure be better than freak dancing. LOL.

  • That doesn't sound weird at all! lol. I wish I could go to a ball like that. =) Of course, then I'd have to learn all the dances. And I'm sure I would be the *one* person to mess up. lol.

  • I agree QueXseraXsera.

  • I HATE grinding. This dancing in this movie is so much better.

  • @QueXseraXsera

I've had a go at this style of dancing, but they make the men look a bit girly doing it in these movies. I think it's the stockings and tight trousers. It's a lot of fun. You have to remember all the steps though, it takes more skill then it looks.

(I didn't do much but the bit I did do made club dancing look so desperate.) It's more fun then it looks.

  • seriously Thorpe is as ugly as his character!

  • he looks like a troll.

  • god i hate john thorpe

  • Izabela and john, they are what they are - a whore and a villain, but sweet kathy's brother james amazed me by taking there side, stupid idiot, he needs a good awakening slap.

brother and sister and so different, amazing writing!

  • Why is it in 6 minute intervals

  • Makes them easier to download

  • Thorpe looks like a caveman.

  • I know!!

  • Thorpe and Isabella seem like golddiggers

  • aw mr. tilney (?) is so sweet... how he brought catherine and his sister something, but then catherine leaves... awesome.

  • gahhh that mr thorpe guy ticks me off just looking at him.

  • cool :)

  • why don't i have a time machine!!!????

  • oh boy..how I relate to what you said..I wish I had a time machine as well..ahaha

  • LoL. people in that time were so much...i dont relly know whst the expression would be ...but it' just seems nice in the movie :)

  • @tinchika1

hear hear! I've always thought I was not born in the right time period. or the right country for that matter. . .I think I would make a much better Brit than an American

  • @tinchika1

Agreed. I'd to find find myself a Mr. Tilney!

  • Such beautiful English people used to speak on those days!! Kiss from Brazil

  • Jeez, people were sheltered back in those days. they weren't very good at reading intentions or people. at that age i was pretty keyed on :P :P gotta love the 21st century

  • It wasn't people from that age in general who weren't discerning, that's just Catherine's personality. She's very naive and thinks the best of everyone indiscriminately, but not everyone back then was like that. Eleanor, for example, very obviously understood what kind of girl Isabella was very quickly by picking up on the hints.

  • This is why Jane Austin is brilliant. She really knows how to depict nature.

  • Mr.Thorpe needs a good beating...how could he lie to Catherine???

Even when I read the book, I found that Mr.Thorpe and his sister didn't seem like the kind of people I would even want to hang out with...the brother is a serious creep, and the sister is obsessed with boys and being the center of attention.

  • in the book, Catherine was much more distressed at breaking her promise to the Tilney's, she wasn't able to be talked round so easily...although, by doing this they were able to show how much she wanted to go to the castle so it works both ways.

i know Catherine is naive but in the book she is 17 so not quite so trusting.

i really love jane austen novels! :)

  • I keep forgetting how young Miss Morland is, otherwise she wouldnt have taken Thorpes deceit and lies so easily.

  • Thorpe has a toad face

  • What a jerk, this Mr Thorpe.. How could he lie?!

    I don't think he's a good man!

  • I like this movie, but they have left out a few bits....

  • such as?

  • Like Thorpe is more annoying than that...it's like they fastforward everything too. oh well, was good anyway.

  • i've never read the book..is it really much better than the movie??

  • Hmm well I liked the book better...not sure what other people think.

  • I agree, the book is definitely better.

  • All Jane Austen's works are infinitely better than the films. However, this one doesn't do a bad job. It does skim ahead over some bits, but I suppose all films must do that.

  • the bbc's version of P&P was really good.

  • i found it lacked passion between darcy and elizabeth...it didn;t really leave me feeling anything like i did when i first read the book

  • I really love this movie, and I've gone on this Austen-inspired-movie thing and watched this like four times and I love Catherine, she's just that kind of girl who is always willing to give someone the benefit of the doubt. Who couldn't love her? But Isabella! Ugh!

  • Thorpe needs to calm down. And Cathy needs to not listen to him.

  • Yeah, john thorpe doesn't seem trustworthy at all... he has the scoundrel's face (ha). the tilney's seem cool.

  • i'd jump out of the carriage and take my chances lol.. i rather be paralized then with john thorpe
