Yeah, this is a VERY early ROM. There are newer ones that have a lot of these problems fixed (still no camera) but everything else works 100%

You need to root your phone if you want to install any custom ROM (like the one in this video)

G1 users are NEVER getting 2.0 from T-Mobile although there is a rumor going around that they might get 2.5 update in January but who knows.... =p

The G1 is the best phone I've ever had. When I show people what my rooted G1 can do compared to what they can do with just a stock G1. They are amazed that their phone is capable of doing what it does.

It's a nice update but it's not really worth it with the way it slows down the phone, camera doesn't work, some other apps are unusable and who knows what other catastrophe is going on under the hood. I'll just stick with my 1.6. When I want 2.0, 2.1 or whatever future updates, I'll just get a new phone. Nice video though. Thanks for showing us!

No, you don't understand... LOL It was the ROM! Hahaha... The G1 can EASILY handle 2.0. It not about performance. Its about drivers and compatibility that devs are working on and should have running soon enough =)

I mean, the G1 can even run Android 2.1 with Hero Sense UI perfectly well.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up. I was curious as to why it was so slow because about 7 months ago when cupcake was supposed to be released, I was too impatient to wait for the OTA so I went ahead and rooted my phone and installed a custom ROM. However, last night, I found out that as apps are updated in the market, I can't update them because Google or T-Mobile doesn't offer support for those ROMs so I just decided to cut the rooting all along and go back to stock and then OTA the updates.

The Market is the same and T-Mobile or Google doesn't know if you're using a custom ROM or not so your apps are able to update using a custom ROM =)

Yeah, so like you said, it's most likely the ROM. I'm hoping that when my contract is up that T-Mobile will release a way better phone than the G1. Something with WAY MORE internal memory than the G1, a better keyboard and overall, just better media capabilities. Android is an excellent software, the hardware just haven't been good. The Droid is pretty cool though AND I would still pick my G1 over the iPhone or Crapberry ANYDAY!!! GO ANDROID!

My G1 was originally rooted about 7 months ago to run Hero, multi touch, tethering, over clock, etc. However after 1.6 was released, I wasn't really privvy to the idea of being kept behind, so I decided to the MyTouch. Realized the keyboard was unusable (I've got fairly big hands) and switched back to my iPhone 3g unlocked for TMob. However I bought the G1 when it FIRST came out and is and always will be an advocate for that phone. It's a great device, very underrated , especially rooted.

Its a great phone but its nearing the end of its lifecycle right now... Getting a little dated.

There are some really good deals (like getting it for free) when you sign up with T-Mobile at Walmart and stuff so if you're looking to save some money. Go for it.

If you have a lot of money to burn, you might wanna try another Android QWERTY like the Cliq. =p

g1 + android is crashy to say the least I dont know if I got a dodgy g1 or something but I had to go back to Nokia phones (and believe me I hate a toy OS) since mine wont save contacts and behaves slowly, so im well up for 2.0 fixing it and making my g1 one usable.

ps the cam thing does that when it cant find the hardware, if you access a camera app in an emulator for instance it will also do that

The reason this ROM didn't run well wasn't cuz of the G1. It was cuz of the early ROM.

And it wasn't "crashy".

2.0 can so EASILY be ran on the G1.... The only limit is the internal memory partition which is kinda small. But you will see.. it will happen. =)

T-Mobile hasn't announced any plans of an OFFICIAL 2.0 update for G1 but I'm sure they will in the coming months. =)

As for us ROOTED users, we will get the update before anyone else even if it is never released officially. =)

From what I understand, 2.0 will be coming to the G1. However, it's anywhere between, oh.. now and 2nd quarter 2010. The G1 isn't limited by hardware, its processor is used in several phones, like the MyTouch. Same RISC piece of mobile powerPC that the G1 has. However, the innards of the G1 may not be as fabulous as the newer phones - no big deal, though. I'm holding out to upgrade, because I love the keyboard. May go with a Cliq, not sure at this point though. Don't like the Cliq's keyboard ;)

Same here! The Cliq's keyboard doesn't match the G1's.. that's why I am also hesitant. Also, the Cliq can't be rooted right now.

I really hope (and believe also) that 2.0 will be coming to the G1.The thing that's limiting it though, isn't the CPU. Its the amount of memory it has. So we shall see what Google has up its sleeve.... =)

LOL! That's the whole point! First 2 seconds I say how this wasn't released by T-Mobile. It was ported over from the SDK by AKIRAH.

Its been rumored that this update will never reach the G1 because of hardware limitations. Whether or not this is true you can still get it if you're phone is rooted and by installing a custom ROM.

This will void your warranty and T-Mobile will not help you with any technical assistance so do so at your own risk. =)

When you root your phone T-Mobile wants nothing to do with you. Your warranty will be VOIDED.

Doesn't matter cuz 2.0 ROMs will be out WAAAAY before T-Mobile releases an Official one and you will have a rooted phone with WAAAAY more functionality.

When your phone is rooted you rely on developers to release stuff.

When your phone is NOT rooted you wait for T-Mobile. And if you have a G1, you might be waiting forever.... =/
