How does this air-based unit differ in feel from the recent giant rubber-band units?

Vurtegos tend to be much more responsive which means that the bounce motion happens much faster than on a flybar. A flybar feels much more like jumping on a trampoline with a slow long bounce, however flybars are bulky and tend to break much more often than vurtegos.
