I stumbled across them singing this song when I was a teen then lost it when my computer crashed and have been searching for years. I'm so excited I found it! Beautiful!
@TempestTenor for a video like that is out of print (and in most other cases), BHS holds the rights. They just want to post them at their own discretion which they have every right to do, although I wish they would put some older stuff on here.
I miss hearing my father singing, he was a baritone. I think having these videos allows people to enjoy barbershop and promotes the whole concept. There is nothing like hearing a quartet live on stage.
I just joined the BHS (SPEBSQSA), and think that there needs to be a LOT more videos up. I can understand copyright, but sometimes it is taken a bit too far. Attracting new members should be a priority, but removing some of the great videos that could actually get people interested is counterproductive.
My dad sang with the barbershoppers back when they were the SPEBSQSA. (Society for the preservation and encouragement of barbershop quartet singing in America). He was the lead in a barbershop chorus.
You mean that BBS society that one was known as SPEBSQSA? What seems to be missing is "quartet" and "encouragement". Acoustix is an exceptional exception!
So many singers and performers can learn so much from the Barbershop world. Look at their posturing, their movements. All synchronized. It's like a dance. This is why they are champions and still going strong...minus Jeff Oxley though.
Awesome song! I've sang this one in many quartets during rehearsal breaks!
@PuYanHui Anyone who refers to the King's Singers as a barbershop group obviously isn't a barbershop person. King's Singers can't be beaten, but they most definitely aren't barbershop.
@Nasarota I've met him in Mobile. The Accostix put on a performance there then I went to the Afterglow and got to sit down and talk with him. Great guy. Do u sing as well?
there lead is very strong. im very impressed that he's lasted as well, considering most leads can only sing the part for about 4 or 5 years. his posts are fantastic as well
reminds me of my dad. grew up on this.... had the album and the deep bass dip near the end, he'd blast it on the stereo. ahhhh memories. :) grew up on barbershop music (i'm 26 now), and no matter what i listen to now, i still love this.
i am exactly the same way..my dad would blast this stuff on the stereo and i grew up listening to it. most of my dads family all sang barbershop in competition as well though too..so yea i know how it is..its awesome.
i LOVE hearing my dad sing! i wish i had videos of him singing. i was almost in a barbershop quartet myself in highschool- dad was going to coach us girls- but it never worked out :( glad to find another "young" person out there who appreciates it too!! my grandma also sang barbershop too, and they both sang in choruses
The Barbershop Harmony Society made me take down about 20 competition video clips claiming copyright infringement even though these videos are out of print. You would think that presenting good barbershop quartet singing on youtube would be advantageous to the organization.
I agree. I contacted BHS regarding this because YouTube was the only reason I fell in love with barbershop and actually joined BHS and went to its convention. I dont know how they expect to reach the younger audience like me if they dont allow postings on one of the most used sites.
Well if any of you guys get the Harmonizer magazine, last months issue had a big section about it. the society said that they are working on a site for videos so i guess we all have wait till then to enjoy awesome videos
Welcome to the new Society, pal. It's all about money and what they are entitled to. If there was ever a time in their history that they need exposure and to get the word out about 4-part harmony. Better get a good lawyer! LOL Try to find the 1952 Champs'(The 4 Teens) version of this. Not only will you hear it sung the way it should be, but also the correct words. Play this for an Irishman in Ireland and watch their expression! Hardy har har.
@recquilt ...Maybe that's why the Barbershop Harmony Society seems to be drying up and having a hard time attracting members. Free publicity like these videos could gain some interest in that type of singing, but they are hard to find. I saw some clips of Don Kidder and his boys (Kidder & Sons Inc.) on Youtube. Those guys look like they are having fun!
@recquilt Copyright infringement on youtube is truly ridiculous. The majority of people aren't going to run across barbershop quartet in their daily lives, and having these clips hosted isn't harming some assumed market that would otherwise buy CDs if they didn't have youtube. If anything, the exposure here increases people's appreciation of barbershop. This is true of a ton of other videos that show unpopular but valuable pieces of culture as well.
@recquilt , you would think...but you tube lost many many good barbershop songs and videos thanks to the "copywright" police , what a crock...its all about the money that they think they lost when the video was posted free , and 84000 viewers didnt have to buy it....( even though it was out of print and you cant buy it ) !!!!
@recquilt I agree. I heard this song sung by this group around 10 years ago and never knew the name of the group. I thought about the song today and decided to try and find it online. I would have never found this quartet if it wasn't for YouTube.
@recquilt Dammit, stop making BHS out to be the bad guy. The Society gets in trouble if the rights holders find these videos. These videos are great for perpetuation of the hobby...don't you think that the Society would want them posted if they had a choice?
lol.. I'm not sure about that.. but they do look pretty alike. Then again.. when people wear those glasses.. their faces start to shape out like that..
Awesome. Love the arrangement. This sounds awesome on their CD too (minus the hum). I especially enjoy the self-satisfied look on the face of the bass when he hits the really low notes. lol
If you can't read emotion from the truly impressive dynamics and harmonizing these guys are doing I think you're too naive to justify taking any sort of offense to this. What you really should worry about is how ugly these guys are. Wow. Still, <3 Acoustix.
i hate it when people like some of those below say such things about beautiful things. i know the lullaby and i think acoustix made it all the move lovely adding that amazing harmony. we all need to just relax and enjoy those chords :)
ah, sorry man. I liked your jam session on your vids.
Barbershop is about the chords locking (which is cool.. cause formal instruments can't do the same kind of tuning), and acting. They can look funny, and it's their way of trying to act out what the song means to them. Hopefully not a joke lol

Wow. I must say, as a proud Irish woman, that you successfully butchered one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever. This is supposed to be sung as a delicate, loving reminiscence, hence the "LULLABY" part of the title, not the commercialized barbershop rendition you've presented. You obviously have no respect for the beauty and simplicity found in the original composition. Please do not disgrace anyone else's heritage the way you have mine.
Not to sound rude, but who do you think you are. It's a song, and all songs are open to interpretation. Notice when they sing the part of the song that represents the lullaby, they sing it quite soft. If you find a reason to be offended at this, then you are looking to be offended by anything.
Get over yourself, and just enjoy a song well sung.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I am someone who is formally trained in music, and I know the way it it supposed to be performed. I agree all music is open to interpretation, but it is a shame that this beautiful work is performed so poorly. It doesn't do the song justice. I suggest you find an original recording and listen to the way it was meant to sound. Maybe then you would hear the beauty in the simplicity. Until then, don't comment on something you obviously don't know anything about.
As someone who is as well formally trained in music, then you were taught that your personal opinion of the way a piece is performed really doesn't count in the scheme of music. Though you may diagree with their interpretation of the piece, thier version was sung flawlessly and with heart. I am quite sure they were trying to honor heritage, not disgrace it.
Sweetielenie you are a maggot. Why are you looking at a barbershop rendition of Irish Lullaby if you aren't prepared to respect the aspects of Barbershop which are present in the rendition? Theses aspects which have "butchered one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever" are obviously out of your league of 'training' which is clearly restricted to Old-time country and Britney Spears. Get off the internet and back to the stove.
Firstly, commercialized barbershop is an oxymoron.
Secondly, there is no "right way" to perform a piece of music. If your "formal training" hasn't taught you that, you need to ask for your money back. Get over yourself. As a proud musician, you've successfully butchered the music profession.
sweetielenie, my favourite lullaby is 'everything possible' by fred small. I'm just glad it's posted on youtube in anyone's interpretation, and that the lyrics are out there for other people to reinterpret.
Formal training kinda sucks if what it teaches you is 'diss people who don't do it the way you like it - regardless of hours spent, and tears shed'.
Would you ask a class 'who's the best musician of all time' and mark down anyone who said 'mozart' instead of 'beethoven'? Surely not!
