  • They probably didn't change out that gate valve to a ballvalve because the customer didn't want to pay for it. You get what you pay for.

  • EVERYONE.... do not trust the 3/4" Watts stainless steel braided water heater flex connectors. One burst and flooded my carpet in the hall and bedroom. It was one year old! Water pressure is set to 65psi. SWEAT SOLDER your copper pipes and sleep peacefully. This is the 4th Watts connector line that i have personally seen fail, 3 in an apartment building that I do the accounting for now this one in my own house while I was away. Sweat solder the copper tubes. It is WORTH IT!

  • Thank you for posting this! Wish you folks were out here in Los Angeles. Or that we were there! So is there any water heater you like over the others? Our American water heater died today, I think we got almost 8 years out of it.

(I drained it, but not often enough.) I've been on here researching, and have read about so many problems people are having with newer water heaters, it's a shame. Thanks again for these great videos!

  • @Lyn2686 - The water heaters made today are just not meant to last. If you are in the market for a new water heater, look for one with dual anode rods as that at least offers a better chance for going any distance. However, buildup/sediment/lime scale inside a tank can greatly reduce the efficiency of any water heater and therefore replacement is the best cure for keeping the unit running cost effectively, just like the energy guide sticker is based on.

  • the "6th sense" is just a marketing sceam... yes, they are a little different... you got an elitronic gas valve made by honeywell were as old ones was made by robertshaw..

  • i used to be a whirlpool tech and that don't suprize me. although i've sean worse... and its not rally lowes who installs the heaters. its contracted "plumbers" that installs them... most home owners that have the newer style gas heaters either don't install them right or don't service them like is advised in the install manual. 6 - 10 years is what most people will get out of their water heaters these days.

  • Good Vid! There are a lot of hacks out there. I always include new ball valves, yes I put one on the hot side also to isolate the unit for service. I also T off cold and install smallervalve for future Hum hook up. Catch pan and dieelectric's are always part of the job. Too bad a lot of guys out there that have no clue what integrity is. As far as the newer whirlpool 6th sense I've had no probs yet.

  • How do you replace the cold water inlet nipple and the threads it's screwed into with the dip tube? Mine Whirlpool leaks around the cold water inlet. The threads are all rusted and the white plastic collar around the hole is cracked. Please help.

  • @radioahole - You'll have to cut the incoming line loose from the dielectric nipple, the dip tube is stationary inside the tank and does not come out when removing the nipple.

The plastic white collar is a cosmetic part of the tank, won't hurt that it is cracked. Be extremely careful with removing that nipple if the connection has been leaking for an extended period of time. This weakens the top of the tank and will cause issues.

  • @DUNBARPLUMBING Thank you for the response. I ended up replacing the unit. The threads that the cold inlet nipple screws into were rusted out. The poepl at whirlpool told me it was welded into the unit so that wasn't replaceable. Which made the unit unusable. Mine did have Galvanic corrosion.

  • @radioahole - Please tell me you put something in there than another Whirlpool heater. Even the 'new' ones are disaster on reliability. We just replaced one last friday, guy had worked on it 6 times in 4 years and they would not give him his money back. Horrible experience for the consumer.

Glad to hear you got the problem resolved. Feel free to join/subscribe to our upcoming plumbing videos!

  • @DUNBARPLUMBING I put a Hotpoint 40 gallon 34,000 btu unit in. I had to go low end. As usual this repair hit me between paychecks. I got 7 years out of the Whirlpool unit though.

  • @radioahole - You did great for 7 years with that brand name. You should be in decent shape with the Hotpoint. Not familiar with the brand name but drain it once a year and it should be fine.

  • Thats LOWES FOR YOU, They have the best subs for plumbing!!lol
