My dad passed away to this song just a short while ago, he was a big fan of Neil and this song just means so much more to me now than it ever has........Love you Dad... XXXX
I remember waking up to my dad playing along with the Hot August Nights albulm on guitar on sunday mornings back in the 70s. What I'd give to have those days back.
Hi Folks, Finally one of the true legends of rock is being inducted into the Rock "N" Roll Hall Of Fame. Why so long? Well done Neil, a true wandering minstrel. Thanks for a lifetime of so many wonderful memories.
Neil was NOT a doctor; he was "pre-med" in college. Meaning the course of classes one takes before med school. He wasn't doing well in school so he quit school when he was hired to write songs. He didn't loose a patient; he tried to help a man who had a heart attack right in front of him. Neil gave the man CPR but the man died anyway. Neil realized he couldn't be a doctor after that. This is what Neil said in an interview.
@msmpiano Yes its great to see how really handsome and sexy he was then, and what a haunting voice, I didn't know just how good looking he was until I discovered U tube a few years back..wish we'd had it back then, but thank god we got it now. All that talent in one package, its just not seen now.
To think, he nearly came close to never singing at all. He is an MD. After losing his first patient, he couldn't handle it, so he left medicine. Wow, what a waste of talent that would have been. I can't imagine life without Neil!!
@blgghee Sure as hell not to you, you are a person best to be ignored, but the world won't support your tyranny anymore and won't ignore it. Thumbs down to your insanity, good luck, you will need it!
@military911search grANNIE Rose you are on here looking like you believe you are talking to Neil Diamond and threatening to block him as a Zionist for not answering? I hope you are seeing a Dr. Were you drunk, unbalanced on meds, or having a medical incident?
@blgghee I know you would reply that is the funny thing, idiot. That is all you do all day long is smell where Bigcree, Ann and I go. By the way I just went to the can, and I was relieved you weren't there, hahahaaha.
Like many people, when i first heard him doing "Cherry, Cherry" ca. 1966, i thought he was good, but had no ideas he'd run up a long string of hits for 30 years and more!
This wonderful Rock and Roll singer/songwriter deserves to be in the Rock n Roll hall of fame. But he's too good for them, they can go eat his dust. They have people in there that don't belong. So I agree--it's all politics
Awesome...saw Neil do this song in 1969 at a special Cobo Hall Concert. He was dressed all in black and walked on stage with his stool and his guitar and stole my heart away :)
@tefu9 Hey, he's great, but I know a lot of artists who "compare to him". But having said that, that's one damn fine group of singers I'm talking about. No doubt he's your favourite. Gordon Lightfoot is mine. And I'd give my right nut to see them both in concert on the same stage any day of the millenium. This song is particualrly awesome. My other faves are Brooklyn Roads, Solitary Man, Brother Love's Show, and I Am I Said.
I took my mom to see Neil in concert twenty years ago for her birthday, cost of tickets-$30, cost of gas to the arena-$20, the look on my mother's face...priceless
I took myself to see him in June 2008. only.8 months after my partner died . I kinda thought I shouldn't but did anyway since the tickets were bought before Bill died. Brought the music back into my life so for me...........priceless.
This is Neil Diamond at his very best. Music doesn't get better than this - his lyrics, music, and passion get you where you live. He is one of the greatest song writers and performers in history. I was lucky enough to hear these songs live at a Neil Diamond concert; it was unforgettable.
what is with the lips? dang...he was and is and will always be a very sexy man!

@blgghee Agreed. Neil is not a Zionist.

I would rate this as your top song Neil, considering the state of affairs the world is in right now. Do you support all of Zionism and the Talmud?

@Cainefan
If is didn't happen when he first could have been put in it will never happen.
R&R Hall are a group of morons.
They say he not in because he's not rock and roll. Ok I guess.
Heart is not in because?
Three Dog Night?
I could list more. We won't go into people who are in who have no business there.
But if Madonna is in then anymore should be able to get in no matter who they are.

Not sure about that having seen Manilow live on many occassions. I seem to have a thing about Jewish musicians from Brooklyn :-)

Besides being a great performer and singer/writer he was really good looking back then, I think it's the eyes that do it.
