  • I just want to say that I defended this strategy waaaaay back when you first uploaded this, and everyone said it wouldn't work. QQ much haters? Korean server standard now.

  • I've been using this a lot lately; lotta fun! :)

  • lol the first guy just ran his probes to attack the sentries when there was an obvious gap :P

vs zerg u should just wall off the ramp and warp in some zealots too. you can destroy their entire base since they can usually just spawn 3-6 larvae worth of units from their main hatch.

  • I liked the part when he dropped sentries out of his warp-prism

  • SO BROKEN

  • couldve used the warp prism to warp in more stuff but great vid :D

  • @skim10074 i was just thinking that. maybe dts or something

  • So in order to prevent this...always rush Protoss ;P ALWAYS!! You see a protoss...rush them! THEY CANNOT HOLD!

  • more examples, i didnt get it

  • special tactic

  • Using the opponent's mineral patches against them... ingenious!!! o_0

  • yay for 1.4!

  • Detective, it would appear these drones were trapped and killed by focused sentry fire.

    Well then...

    *puts on sunglasses*

I guess you could say they were FORCED in.

    YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • I actually have an incredibyl hard time believing how effective this is. haha

  • i think that tac is pritty cool but you can just do that when your opponent got no reflexes and reacts 2 late srsly who is not pulling of his drones/probes/scvs when he sees an warpprism is flying into his base...

  • The risk is not worth the reward. Also, any counter attack mid game would crush you. Srsly, who has 4 spare sentries... anytime during the game?

  • Meh.. I wonder why I didn't think of that myself.. I was always thinking to myself how Protoss can't do any effective drops, but there you go! Even if you can't get infinity probe kills, even 5-10 kills makes it worth it, I think. You can try sentry/high templar drops later for massive damage, assuming you get the force fields down right. Sure it's not gonna work every time, but hell.. You're gonna have 2 sentries around pretty much always, so why not drop? I definitely will. Thank you Painuser!

  • Even if you could pull this off and not get your sentries owned, two things wont work.

1.Sentries don't have fast enough dps

    2. In the next patch workers have better ai when moving around force fields so they wont glitch and freakout against a force field

  • @ragequit2 trololol?

  • This may very well be viable, but this video isn't a very good showcase.

The control of all of the opponents was atrocious. Might be good in gold league and below though.

  • @ChaosEmerl i think its control v

  • Hey, how do you make the hud disappear? I've read and reread the hotkeys but it doesn't say how to.

  • really awesome as protoss really lack a good early harass opportunity!

  • This video shows another good reason to research burrow =]

  • RAPE

  • my bad was the same game

  • awesome strat but on many of them the opponent already lost about 2/3rds of the total workers lost

  • Great use of speshul tacticks.

  • @VoytX yeah i agree on that dude..no one can really claim originality these days..lol but nice showcase on how to do it

  • Thumbs Up if Painuser got you to search for this.

  • always wanted to try this except also adding a full energy HT to the mix for a no-escape storm

  • This is SOOO good. ur gonna get sentries nurfed u asshole. :) lol

  • This is such a dick move. I love it!!

  • Drop 1 HT same effect

  • @LiLmangaaddict unless your opponent is pretty bad and doesn't move out of the way, then yes. good players will micro their workers away from storms. plus hts are late tier units. by the time you get them they should have anti-air at their worker lines to shoot down the warp prism. in theory this (sentry drop) could be done really early before you even expand. since a 3gate 1robo expand is usually what most protoss players do anyways. early worker kills will give you a huge boost in late game

  • I have tried this it's very effective early on around 7-8 minutes, after that there is usually anti air behind the mineral line. It doesn't matter, with that much loss in production you get way ahead with just a single attack

  • I like where you're going with this. Maybe warp in some zealots and combine this harass with a feint at the front. You would lose the zealots but if you can take out 18 workers maybe more, losing just minerals would be worth it. Just be careful not to fly into turrents lol.

  • A wild viking has appeared! It uses attack

    SUPER EFFECTIVE!

  • could you go fit an archon in and clump them so splash is uber effective?

  • JYP just used ur strat in the GSL!

  • OP FF....

  • haters gonna hate. toss harass underutilized and this is brilliant. obviously some flaws. thats a lot of gas and if its defended well that sucks but what harass doesnt suck when it fails. i applaud u sir

  • 4 sentry hit squad

  • some of you people should really read the TL.net thread I've made about it :) and download the replays if you still think this is against AI lol

  • Another reason to get burrow asap!

  • Stop saying these are all noob plays. We see pros fall for stupid cheeses all the time

  • Why did they both have a Warp prism?

  • amazing

  • I just beat a 700 diamond rank 1 diamond with this, PvP...

He opened 4gate, I went for robo (4 sentries into immortal, sentries to infinitely hold off his army) and I got a prism and went to his base and just killed 11 out of 21 workers and won like 20 sec later when he sent everything and didn't even get up my ramp

  • @LasseLundster You won't survive against a competent 4gate with 4sentries.

  • @BengBug Noob, you can hold of a 4gate infinitely with 4 sentries. Unless you're bad with forcefields.

  • @LasseLundster you won't have 4 sentries when 4 gate arrives lol. Even so, you'd still be able to warp above the forcefield to get vision, if you can't then you can just move your units near the forcefield for vision. A competent 4 gate arrives at around 5:45-5:55. You won't have 4 sentries by then, even so, with good pylon placement, warping above the forcefield is still possible.

  • @BengBug You can't warp above a forcefield to get vision, you can however get vision even when forcefield is in top on the ramp if you know the trick.

And I never said I had 4 sentries before the 4gate arrived, I said I had 4 sentries left after a failed 4gate.

  • @LasseLundster Trick? you just have to move the units close enough.. ¬_¬ You can warp above forcefields sometimes, it depends where on the ramp it is placed.

And no, you said you can hold off a 4gate infinitely with 4 sentries. It means that you must have the sentries over the course of 60 seconds from when 4 gate arrives. 4 sentries is 400 gas, you wouldn't be able to make anything other than zealots to defend all the while your opponent gets more units. You need perfect forcefields everytime.

  • all bronze games? or what.

  • I always thought a 3 zealot, 1 sentry drop would be best to do something like this. But with 4 sentries it seems you can trap much easier without relying on the zealots.

Still, I can't help but think this would work perfect in conjunction with some real units like marines, BFH, or even just hydras. 2v2 strat anyone?

  • i just tried this pvp, i killed 12 workers and wouldh ave had more if he didnt have a colo popping out right next to the min line. I was able to expand and hold his colo push afterwords

  • @pseudologist oh i am high diamond btw

  • i wonder how would sen react to this.

  • Anyone else constantly clicking the plus button thinking ur controlling the replay?

  • drone drops are way better!

  • @0nig That's cuz drones do more damage!

  • wp

  • I could see this done in conjunction with a 3 gate expand into double robo... and it dosent matter if you have the units to try and stop the drop if they cant kill the sentries because the ffs keep you out of range...

wouldnt work against a protoss unless you compleatly destroyed the worker line because youd be down a collosus.

but just like all drops it forces the enemy to give some units or static defence to stop future drops.

It dosent have to be a special build btw guys... just extra

  • And this is one good reason way you keep your eyes on the minimap.

  • i would do this is very limited situations. To begin I would want something like 2 more bases? well a lot....

big army adv (in case of counter), map control (limit, push back counter), eco adv (for the sentry+prism cost.) then after all of that (which basically lets you do anything anyways) i would only mildly harass.

oh and gold or under, maybe plat.

    limited but technically viable

  • very good

  • Was this just an exhibition of bad force field placements? Why not drop 2 sentries and learn to force field better then warp in 2 Stalkers after drop? You'll have the room to fly them away...

  • Those poor scvs!

  • Game timer says 10+ minutes and he's at 44 supply...

  • 2nd last example: You have 5 zealots and 3 immortals, he has 45 lings - he could have countered and completely crushed you, since you didn't have the FF's at home ...

  • toss , countered by WARP GATES

    Zerg, QUEEN

    Terran anything.

this pays out dividents when you play against a poor mechanical player.

  • notice how when he zooms in he always has 1000+ minerals

  • actually i think like 1 or 2 sentries is enough for the drop along with some units that have more dps that make make better use of the forcefields other than the sentries' tickle attack

  • Bronze....

  • you;re playing against fucking noobs... what league is this

  • All the terran has to do is lift the orbital, then the scvs wont be trapped :P

  • @alrexrod198 Well not if there's some perfect forcefields after it's lifted

  • I love the juke at around 3:40

  • @alrexrod198 you rly think that 4 sentrys won't have energy to put two more force fields where CC were standing?

  • @VoytX probably, but it would force the extra energy spent and its a hella lot better of an idea than letting them die with the CC and FF trapping them.

  • @VoytX yes i would have it by then, wana 1v1?

  • @alrexrod198 couldnt he forcefield that as well....

  • @hammer226800 yeah true, but at least you're making him burn more force fields, and gives you some time to run away if he has a slow reaction

  • Someone did this to me. I was zerg. I'm in gold.

Doesn't work so well on zerg when we have an expo, and can just replace all the workers in one swoop. But it was a hurting.

Good luck investing all that gas....

  • @TimTehPilot

10 minute mark you easily have 4 sentries and a warp prism.

    Never played toss?

  • what is this bronze league? They have pro reaction times

  • Comment removed

  • this is a great strat, but i noticed that the people you were playing with did not micro very well. how this would turn out in platinum gameplay, i don't know.

    very creative though.

  • This is GENIUS

  • yeah but this is against AI every time

  • @garythecoconut

No it isn't. Look at when he some opponent says "Wow"

  • What is a spore colony?

  • Surely a Turret could take care of that 9 times out of 10?

  • Got really annoyed by how you zoomed in on the number and circled around it. It's not like we don't see the number without the zoom and the mousecursor guiding us.

  • I just jizzed.

  • Every time you zoomed on the worker kill count and circled, sigh...

That's a 400 gas drop with a paper prism. If this happens you walk over and kill him with your army, which is why not even one time have you ever seen a GM do this.

  • @eazymethod01 Are you retarded? Who would do this as an opener? Is it implied that this is a rush strat or soemthing?

  • @phadedlife I'm agreeing with you here lol. As great as it might be in a later stage to trap workers, it's costly and toss likely has nothing if this was rushed to. Which is why the other player should just go kill him with what they have.

  • I... I must try this now. Keep in mind all other lower league players like me who want to try this, if you have a group of sentries collected, you can simply hold down f and keep clicking the mouse to spam force field to make the wall

  • @bigkr88 You don't ever spam forcefields. Saving sentry energy and not putting down bad FFs is important.

  • mind = blown

  • these are some seriously special tactics. Integrating them into my game now.

  • its a cool strat but....if u did this against terran, i would just amove my army and kill u cuz, ur army has lost a bunch of FFs and Guardian shields in the early/mid game. but nevertheless its a cool strat

  • I liked the one where there was a single missile turret in the mineral line and the warp prism barely got all the sentries out before dying.

Paper airplane transport is pretty sweet.

  • This is basically the 4 infestor hit squad protoss style.

  • someone did this to me in masters, and killed all my workers, then i walked over and killed him.

  • 1) insanely risky... can you really afford to lose 4 sentries, especially when playing against zerg?

    2) sentries' dps is ridiculously low

    3) burrow is nice, as are a few marines to keep the peace.

  • How to make bronzies quit sc2...

  • Tactic works well early in the game. Not so well when you've gone through a totally awkward build order for the units required for this. Kinda leave yourself behind.

  • someone tried this against me yesterday on the ladder, first time i saw it, and totally averted it. Whats not shown in this video, is the super weird build order used to get here. if you see this coming, it almost a GG for you, cause hes so far behind (im in high diamond)

  • everything's effective when you're playing against noobs

  • @BitNinja This guy is a high diamond player. He ain't playing n00bs.

  • @BitNinja Oh, stop being so jaded. Toss complain about a lack of harrassment options and now they see that there's at least one more to play around with. Hellion drops and bane bombs can be shut down by good players too. That doesn't mean they become worthless.

  • @BitNinja well then consider this as a tutorial for you.

  • @VoytX at least make one with a little bit of sense, in the early game you need the sentrys to defend, you can't just harass with 4 sentrys because then you won't have enough units to defend, any attack will kill you, and late game picking 4 sentrys to drop instead of storms or dts isn't logical

  • @BitNinja I didn't make this video just to make a video. I wrote whole thread about sentry drops on tl.net - you have the link in the video description - read it - and then come back.

  • @BitNinja

i don't think that's the point of the video

  • @Yoshi17th Adam hicken is a chink

  • Hehe, thats cute! :3

  • but when he loses those 4 sentries, he loses a lot of gas

  • @BurnedMurloc Thats the thing, he wont lose them if he uses force fields.

  • ..at what level were these drops done? Silver?

  • Cool idea but anyone higher than plat would move as soon as you dropped the first unit, these guys are slow as fuck.

  • @Plecebo1996 Conversely, that first sentry dropped could be hot keyed and ready to force-field the moment he's out. The dropping player is very slow on execution as well.

  • holy crap! got to try this on 4v4 later

  • meh, 2 vikings could easily intercept this, silver league tactics imo

  • @Icix1

    Confirmed for silver league player.

  • @Icix1 Drops are an important part of the game at every level of play. Dropping sentries doesn't change that. Killing a dozen drones and forcing your opponent to build vickings is already a win if it only takes one drop.

  • @majoris

I'm not saying it's not a valid tactic, but the only reason it's seems very effective in this video is because the people aren't defending against the drops at all.

  • @Icix1 You can apply that logic to any tactic.

  • nothing compared to BFH or Banedrops

  • No escape no Surrender

  • you sir, are awesome

  • my secret is out... been doing this since beta

  • This man deserves a gold medal for effectively executing this baller strategy.

  • FORCEFIELD IMBA ;)

  • Is this Bronzeleague or what?

  • that is awesome, if only warp prism wasnt so expensive and fragile

  • lol@ the stupid slow reaction

  • wow

  • wow.... badass

  • man that is pretty effective,

    what league are you in?

  • 2 senrtries 2 ht is super effective

  • all the herp derp zerg needs to do is put units under the dropship. I guess zerg is too busy massing infestors,

  • Whitera came up with this ages ago except he uses 2 sentry+archon which is way more effective.

  • 4 sentries in a paper airplane, no thank you.

  • great idea, i will try that! maybe 2zealots/2sentries, u think that could work?

  • @XxInvocationxX 2 sentry 2 stalker is prob better or 1 stalker however many. ranged can snipe

  • @tassidar86 Why would you add stalkers? They have worse DPS than sentries, and there's really no damage for them to soak up in this scenario.

  • @youdoxie dude... ur an idiot stalkers have almost 1 point more dps... they also have 1 more range and do more dmg to armored...

  • Comment removed

  • moar examples i didnt get it

  • @asdFRap troll of the century

  • four sentry hit squad

  • thanks for that) will try on ladder/

  • any high amster would already be pulling after the first sentury is dropped...

  • @JAFrk and then the first sentry forcefields the way they are going. Your point is?

  • looks like the 4 infestor hit squad suck against these ballers

  • inventive

  • Absolutely genius. That's what I love about this game, some of the most imaginative and creative things can turn out to be amazing.

  • my mind burst.

  • Sentries are a good defensive unit

  • or you could just do 4 ht's and storm the shit outta the mineral line and kill just about all of them

  • and then comes 1 viking... 400 gas

  • It's a cool idea but any competent player would handle that damn fast

  • Forcefield op
