That triple toe at the end of the quad was gorgeous, you could have thought that he had lost it after the first landing, but oh my god it was so smooth after that!!!

Evgeni's performance here and in 2002 were fantastic...stupendous jumps, excellent choreography, artistry, and foot work....I'm sorry to say that his performance in 2010 didn't come close to these. With his age(old for a competitive skater)and his injuries I wish he would enjoy his "other" life and skate professionally for his still adoring public.
@aynatn I think you are an american. Is Plu old for competitive skating? He was the only one who landed two perfect 4-3 combo! OMG! What a shame, the young skaters couldn't land, but he, who old to competitive skater landed! You are ridiculous!! Maybe Evgeni was better in 2006 than 2010, but he was better, than Evan Lyasecek! The majority of Fs fans adore him, celebrate him, because he is the real winner in Vancouver. Lysa is nobody in Eu and Asia too.
@dorca000 I'd really like to see a jumping contest become part of the mens' figure skating competition. I've seen on youtube a jumping contest with several men competing...Yagudin(and I don't remember who else..Yagudin won). Or, maybe a change in the rules where there isn't a huge deduction for a missed quad. IMO there is much more to figure skating than the jumps. With the new rules, Evgeni lost out by not doing more jumps in the last part of the program when the jumps counted 10% more.
@aynatn Ok, but you didn't say this. You said, Plushenko old for competitive skater. I really don't understand. Is he old jumper? Is he only an OLD JUMPER? But he was the only one who landed 4-3 combo. That is interesting, that Plu got more points for his presentation than Lysa.... Only jumper? Yes he made mistakes, if he would have landed one duble-duble combo in the last part , he is the winner. You know, this is not Plu's standard. The new scoring system is very controversial.
@aynatn And this is fact: From NY Times ( /2010/02/20/sports/olympics/20longman.html) : Lysacek received only a judges warning for a wrong-edged takeoff on his triple flip, not a 2- or 3-point deduction that would have changed the outcome, which was narrowly decided in his favor by 257.67 points to 256.36." The judges cheated,
@cw6391 Ha ha ha! Are you kidding? Or are you envious of Plushenko's talent, and his popularity? But i think mao asada does better triple axels, than Lysacek!
greatest figure skater ever! someday people might be able to do skills that he can't (such a as quints) but I don't think anyone will ever have a greater ability for the sport than he does
What really troubles me is how could it happen that Lysacek, who is even afraid to do one quad, was given a higher technical score against the only skater who landed two perfect quad-triple combinations, both in sp than in lp: it's to add insult to injury! Besides, to say that Plushenko is NOT artistic is indecent: this splendid russian has deep artistic roots and there is more artistry in his little finger than in the entire body of big Lysacek or thick Chan(g). He is the greatest ever.Period
Those who've allowed themselves to be brainwashed should watch this video. I find it sadly hilarious that the same commentators in this video have been out in full force to denigrate Plushenko's skating this year. They indeed have no shame. He "set the bar for the rest of the competition" in 2006 in his short program and totally didn't set it in Vancouver - the judges gave both Lysacek and Plush the same marks for their short program. What a double standard and a disgrace...
im in the verge of tears.... he´s a poetry in motion, difficulty, energy and charisma as you said... if he just had jumped the triple flip in vancouver olympics he probably would beat Lysacek....but, as a matter of fact, it doesnt matter....success isnt always measured by a gold medal...
Although I love watching Plushenko I still cannot understand why oh why he didn't jump the triple Flip in Vancouver (long program). And it had not been even planned! I am not sure how much this very jump is worth but if he had landed it clean he would have been given points which probably would have enabled him overcome Lysacek no matter what. It's just pure math. Of course even without the flip I still think he was the winner and nothing will change that.
It wouldn't change anything, the judges made their decision before SP. I think, the other jump combination wouldn't change anything, because the judges would have the possibility to give him less points in COP. They gave him 2 points less in SP and it's factored 1, so they could easily give him 4 points less in LP. With this they wanted show us that they are fair LOL. PS: Evgeni had 2 lutzes, so which jump would you replace for a flip?
@Fanofice I think Yags was saying how he should've done a 4/3/2 or something in his long but i don't remember all the jumps Plushy did. I think he might have been deducted for his landings. Some of them weren't very clean. But I wouldn't have been as harsh on the GoE as the judges were.
@xxradiance I think, that the score for Pushenko in LP was ok. But, I think, that the score for Lysacek was way to high. He got 8 points more than in LA 2009, why? His second 3A was cheated and unclean, but judges didn't penalized him. Also, his jumps are very small every time, but he get even GOE +2 for it. If you look at 3A of Plushenko in SP, he got only +0,8 for it, why !? The jump was executed perfectly with a very difficult entrance. It should be between +2/+3 in GOE. It's double standard.
@Fanofice Someone told me Evan cheats on his 3A but I was never sure. How does he cheat? I have never been a fan of Evan's jumps because they are way too low for my liking, but he's kind of tall so I usually go a little easier on him. I'm sure the +GOE is given for his strong landings, not so much on how much height he gets but I don't know for sure on that either.
What a biased commentatory, in this video the say he is everything, he has technique and passion, and 4 years later they say, they don't believe in his skating. This was just some prepared campaign, that's for sure.
@Fanofice things change, and also he had more attack in this program. Please keep in mind that this was only 2 years after they had implemented the new judging system. This program looks fantastic as a 6.0 system program. Now the programs of this sport has changed so much and his current programs look very old fashioned.
Yes, the things have changed, the programms of new FS "Stars" have no difficulty, no energy, no charisma or individuality. They all do the same stuff to similar music and same moves taking the whole risk off because you don't get a credit for it. Figure skating is boring today and Elvis Stojko is absolutely right - they kill this sport. There are no personality on ice anymore, look at Yagudin, Joubert, Lambiel, Zhenya, they all had their style and now fs is like doing homework with same tasks.
Actually i was wondering if sit spins are required now? I noticed every men's program had it, and they're truthfully my *least* favourite spins of all time. I donno, I guess it's an aesthetic thing...only Lambiel can do that spin justice in my opinion and that's just because he's the best at them anyway!
One german commentator said, Evan is not bad, the situation is like you can see it at school. Evan is a very diligent pupil trying to do what teacher want him to do and Evgeni is a genius, who knows he is a genius and not paying attention at what teacher says. I am sure in 10 or even in 5 years everybody, also Americans will able to see, who is the real master.
@Fanofice that commentator stated my thoughts perfectly, and there's no doubt that plushenko is the master, not evan. but i will never accept that evgeni one the 2010 olympics. i respect evgeni's boldness, but what i don't understand is why, when he skated such an all or nothing program, and failing to do it better than evan, started bitching over the fact that evan skated better than evgeni. what lost evgeni those games was his overconfidence, and reacting as a spoiled little kid when he failed
@schnisha95 You must to accept, Evan Oly champ only for the Americans. European FS analysts say the decision to award Evan the gold medal over Evgeni was debatable. And they were also Evgeni's supporters: E. Stojko, Sacha Cohen, Ph Condeloro, Ph Pelissier, J Pons (FS commentators and experts), Lu Chen, coach of Shen & Zhao, figure skater Kutay Eryoldas and they did it in the media &press.
Totally agreed. The same trio four years later is so against him even though his program from Torino is technically and artistically almost identical to the programhe skated in Vancouver. They were CONSTANTLY underlying how bad is Plushenko in all elements except jumps. Saying that Plushenko's choreography is not good is almost a blasphemy
@Fanofice Truthfully NBC just made it look like a battle between the Soviet Union (longgg disbanded people) and the US. The Canadian commentary said they didn't believe his skating. I don't know what that really means though.
@pamela2888 yeah they really were quite mean to him. America spun it as "Cold war on ice" (wut?) and the Canadian commentators said they don't *believe* in his figure skating. What I don't believe is their commentary.
KING PLUSHENKO! The best jump techniques in history. Patrick Chan can talk all he wants about how Evgeni style is old and from the 6.0 system but I'd like to see Patrick land 2 triple axels and at least 1 quad without fumbling and looking to see where is butt landed. He can't even land 2 triple axels in a long program yet in senior competition FACT!
And I am not Russian.. I am also Canadian and Asian like Patrick so there is no bias obviously
Chan seams don't remeber Plushenko won Olympics in 2006 with the new score sistem... and by the way, if Plush is "only" jumps, then artisty has a new name.
@bravantonella80 Patrick Chan has too much hype and I think he actually believes in his own hype with the way he talks in interviews. He needs a realty check because he still can't skate a program without an obvious mistake with jump problems. He's a glorified ice dancer
He said that about Plushenko before the Olympics began in Canadian newspapers. I can't wait to see Evgeni and Patrick at the World Championships this month. Go Plushenko. Patrick won't get inflated marks in Italy as much as here in Vancouver
@RyuForce lol Patrick Chan is a wonderful skater (artistry/choreography wise) but he's gotta learn to shut up about other skaters or he'll get into trouble. Plushy was quadding at 15, so I think Pchan needs to step up his game because he won't see the marks he got at Vancouver, in Turin.
@RyuForce I guess you must be watching different videos than me, because as I recall, Patrick Chan landing two gorgeous triple axels at the 2009 worlds in both the long and short, along with all of his other jumps except for one or two tiny things in the long. Everyone has bad days, and this season hasn't really been Patrick's best except for his silver medal at worlds
@Luukashist Plushenko was nineteen when he got a silver medal at the olympics of 2002 and he already landed a 4-3-3 combination Chan is good but not as good
@Luukashist Transition was not considered as "skating skills" back then in 2006. Look at the score margin between the Gold and Silver at that time. "Transition" was originally ice-dance element.
@Luukashist I know, and it is pretty and I agree with hshim80 a transition is no considered a skating skill, besides Plushenko is a very artistic skater and he makes excellent jumps he's got it all you should watch his tribute to Nijinsky it's really good!!
@Luukashist One time i wrote to you, young man, that i wrote to you, if you read nonsense. This is nonsense! Plushenko's every move go along with the music either! Most passionate skating!
When Plushenko was 19, he was world Champion, Olympic silver medalist, two time European Champion, and with many other medals. And he never bad-mouth any of his rivals.
What is Patrick Chan famous for, except his empty talks?
Agree with you. I am a Chinese living in US, Patrick Chan has such a bad reputation in China right now with all his disrespectful talks about other skaters, they were saying he is not Asian and has no modesty at all.
@maryskater9 MESSY MESSY FACT! He has landed 2 axels messy at the Nationals and worlds. Usually one perfect and the second one not getting full points or bonus. He can't do a triple axel with triple toe on the end. Taste That, Eat That and Shit That baby
@RyuForce I've seen that, and i think mao who is a FEMALE figure skater landed the triple axels even better than he did. maybe he should learn from mao, or he should switch to female figure skating.
@Luukashist Nobody hates Patrick Chan, that's an invention, in order to promote him. He talked a lot before Vancouver because he really thought he had a chance to win a medal. I was very excited to watch his programs and very dissapointed to see that he hasn't any special talent, only a bad mouth and an influential coach. It's sad because I like him, he is a funny boy!
The truth is, the new scoring system sucks. It underscores what's the most important in FS which is jumping. Plushenko was a golden medalist in Vancouver, IMO.
Plushenko said it before, he watched the last two world championships and he was surprised and concerned the winners only did triples, so he decided to go, to raise the level of the competition, to push the other skaters to their limits, but as he said, with this score system the quads are not necessary anymore, evan and others skaters won't need quads anymore, maybe only singles or doubles would be neccesary, as far as they perform clean programs, that's enough.
Again on 2010, that commentator was so biased but again he was wowed by Plushenko by commenting "he is such a cat!" and it was a successful, clean landing while I see others skaters fell/shaky/disoriented a little when they tried to pull an easier stunt than Plushenko! Pretty bad media, don't just blindly follow what they wanted you to see while Evan clearly have some flaws and have much easier technical elements.
I like it, it is a slower, more somber music. Plushenko even wowed the commentator, he said he couldn't take his eyes off him, he dances with his hands...etc etc..He did the technical element exceptionally well while incorporate art!
moonlight1ful :Maybe you should go watch ice-skating instead!
I was first introduced Plushenko in 2010 Olympics, he totally take my breath away! He did the most technically difficult element in the Olympics and did it clean! Evans on the other hand, even at his personal best could not compare to Plushenko's. Plush did a quad and Evan didn't! And that's enough to set Plush apart from the rest!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Plushenko WAS great in 2006,not so much this year.I put the two videos side by side and wow what a difference. He was sloppy this year, came close to falling, and was not as crisp.Evan was soooo much better.Compare videos yourself and you will see.

Plushenko was awesome in 2006,not so much in 2010.You should do a side by side comparison and see for yourself. His performance this year was sloppy and he came close to falling-Comepletely different than in 2006.If he was as crisp this year as in 2006 he would have had the gold.He lost this year all on his own.
@moonlight1ful , in case you were right, that Plushenko was not as great as 2006, even with that, he was better than anybody else in 2010, and Plulshenko knew that, that's why he decided to go, but....everybody knows, the judges decided to award Evan, who skates clean, but is not able to perform, to risk a quad in his program.
I completely agree. Watching his LP this year, it was strange to see him not at the top of his game. I don't know if his nerves got the best of him, or if he hasn't been training as much as he should. Anyway, watching him at the exhibition last night, I felt if he had skated that way during the LP, he probably could have won.
Thank you thank you for sharing this olympic video.
I love Plushenko and I do understand his voracious competitor side. Once a winner always a winner. He is historic a great athlete and artistic competitor like no other.
I absolutely adore Plushenko, Yagudin, Kulik, and Petrenko. After that, Lysacek is a sore disappointment. Enough said. There should be a mastery of technique, jumps and artistry which is featured here and in Yagudin's amazing gold medal performances in Salt Lake.
I agree that Evan made his greatest performance ever but there is only one thing for what he must have been punished: He gave his routine to the judges that would include a quad followed by a triple that he didnt do which is considered a "lack of confidence" at any international tournament. So Id like to know what the judges have to say about it. Plushenko performed his entire routine!
@amarantabuendia80 oh, I meant 2:13, how he's waving his hands and doing all those expressive moves, while the music is totally calm and slow, i mean, the tension is only about to start rising. do I make myself clear?
No, it's more then musical. The music goes just behind and his moves do it dramatic. Because his movements the mucis goes lost. and his is an actor. What I have tu say, It's not artistry it's art.
@PerfectTriad I feel the same. He's technically perfect but the moves aren't that connected to the rythm or the spirit of the song. It's not even some sort of postmodern artistic overlap. And, by the way, sometimes it seems he just does the same moves or body expressions on different songs. Of course some people will flame on me, but I don't care: he knows how to get points, but he is a bit boring. I'm sorry, russian people, but you won't make me blind...
Plushenko simply sued, one 4 - 3 How much is half of the program, and the judges felt that the technical indicators are equal, although Laysichek showed a simple program, it is simply absurd !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Zhenya, you know you are the best, we know you are the best, judges know you are the best, Lysacek know you are the best. So this politician stuff is not important at all. Caroll said Lysacek is nothing in comparison to you, so Caroll also know you are the best. It's hard to be a genius, but it's better to be one. Your fans love you and your enemies make you stronger, so say them thanks fo that
Leisachek skated a cleaner program this year. Plushenko just wasn't on top of it for some reason. And he didn't put as many jumps in the end where you get bonuses. Plushenko would have won had he skated as well as he was capable of, but Leisachek was the one who put on an amazing perfromance.

What a double standard and a disgrace...

im in the verge of tears.... he´s a poetry in motion, difficulty, energy and charisma as you said... if he just had jumped the triple flip in vancouver olympics he probably would beat Lysacek....but, as a matter of fact, it doesnt matter....success isnt always measured by a gold medal...
long life to plushenko!!!!
franckellie 1 year ago 4
Although I love watching Plushenko I still cannot understand why oh why he didn't jump the triple Flip in Vancouver (long program). And it had not been even planned! I am not sure how much this very jump is worth but if he had landed it clean he would have been given points which probably would have enabled him overcome Lysacek no matter what. It's just pure math. Of course even without the flip I still think he was the winner and nothing will change that.
Euxiphipops77 1 year ago
It wouldn't change anything, the judges made their decision before SP. I think, the other jump combination wouldn't change anything, because the judges would have the possibility to give him less points in COP. They gave him 2 points less in SP and it's factored 1, so they could easily give him 4 points less in LP. With this they wanted show us that they are fair LOL. PS: Evgeni had 2 lutzes, so which jump would you replace for a flip?
Fanofice 1 year ago 4
I did not mean "replace", I meant "add". And I hate figure skating judges. For years They were doing whatever they wanted to do
Euxiphipops77 1 year ago
@Fanofice I think Yags was saying how he should've done a 4/3/2 or something in his long but i don't remember all the jumps Plushy did. I think he might have been deducted for his landings. Some of them weren't very clean. But I wouldn't have been as harsh on the GoE as the judges were.
xxradiance 1 year ago

Agree. I thought Plushenko's SP was also underscored slightly.

What a biased commentatory, in this video the say he is everything, he has technique and passion, and 4 years later they say, they don't believe in his skating. This was just some prepared campaign, that's for sure.
Fanofice 1 year ago 3
@Fanofice things change, and also he had more attack in this program. Please keep in mind that this was only 2 years after they had implemented the new judging system. This program looks fantastic as a 6.0 system program. Now the programs of this sport has changed so much and his current programs look very old fashioned.
wuwenyuwilliam 1 year ago
Yes, the things have changed, the programms of new FS "Stars" have no difficulty, no energy, no charisma or individuality. They all do the same stuff to similar music and same moves taking the whole risk off because you don't get a credit for it. Figure skating is boring today and Elvis Stojko is absolutely right - they kill this sport. There are no personality on ice anymore, look at Yagudin, Joubert, Lambiel, Zhenya, they all had their style and now fs is like doing homework with same tasks.
Fanofice 1 year ago 8
@Fanofice I agree with you.
Actually i was wondering if sit spins are required now? I noticed every men's program had it, and they're truthfully my *least* favourite spins of all time. I donno, I guess it's an aesthetic thing...only Lambiel can do that spin justice in my opinion and that's just because he's the best at them anyway!
xxradiance 1 year ago
@Fanofice and when i say sit spin, I mean the "shooting duck" one, where the leg is out...

Fanofice 1 year ago 65
@Fanofice
He is the best male skater I've ever seen.
kocsogarc 1 year ago 8
@Fanofice that commentator stated my thoughts perfectly, and there's no doubt that plushenko is the master, not evan. but i will never accept that evgeni one the 2010 olympics. i respect evgeni's boldness, but what i don't understand is why, when he skated such an all or nothing program, and failing to do it better than evan, started bitching over the fact that evan skated better than evgeni. what lost evgeni those games was his overconfidence, and reacting as a spoiled little kid when he failed
schnisha95 8 months ago

Euxiphipops77 1 year ago 5
@Fanofice Truthfully NBC just made it look like a battle between the Soviet Union (longgg disbanded people) and the US. The Canadian commentary said they didn't believe his skating. I don't know what that really means though.

RyuForce 1 year ago 149
Chan seams don't remeber Plushenko won Olympics in 2006 with the new score sistem... and by the way, if Plush is "only" jumps, then artisty has a new name.
bravantonella80 1 year ago 22
@bravantonella80 Patrick Chan has too much hype and I think he actually believes in his own hype with the way he talks in interviews. He needs a realty check because he still can't skate a program without an obvious mistake with jump problems. He's a glorified ice dancer

@RyuForce lol Patrick Chan is a wonderful skater (artistry/choreography wise) but he's gotta learn to shut up about other skaters or he'll get into trouble. Plushy was quadding at 15, so I think Pchan needs to step up his game because he won't see the marks he got at Vancouver, in Turin.
xxradiance 1 year ago 8
@RyuForce I guess you must be watching different videos than me, because as I recall, Patrick Chan landing two gorgeous triple axels at the 2009 worlds in both the long and short, along with all of his other jumps except for one or two tiny things in the long. The truth is, the new scoring system sucks. It underscores what's the most important in FS which is jumping. Plushenko was a golden medalist in Vancouver, IMO.
cashisking98 1 year ago 90

Pretty bad media, don't just blindly follow what they wanted you to see while Evan clearly have some flaws and have much easier technical elements.
thequadlegend 1 year ago 8
I like it, it is a slower, more somber music. Plushenko even wowed the commentator, he said he couldn't take his eyes off him, he dances with his hands...etc etc..He did the technical element exceptionally well while incorporate art!
moonlight1ful :Maybe you should go watch ice-skating instead!
thequadlegend 1 year ago 5
I was first introduced Plushenko in 2010 Olympics, he totally take my breath away! He did the most technically difficult element in the Olympics and did it clean! Evans on the other hand, even at his personal best could not compare to Plushenko's. Plush did a quad and Evan didn't! And that's enough to set Plush apart from the rest!

@moonlight1ful , in case you were right, that Plushenko was not as great as 2006, even with that, he was better than anybody else in 2010, and Plulshenko knew that, that's why he decided to go, but....everybody knows, the judges decided to award Evan, who skates clean, but is not able to perform, to risk a quad in his program.
msmercy123vz 1 year ago 9
I completely agree. Watching his LP this year, it was strange to see him not at the top of his game. I don't know if his nerves got the best of him, or if he hasn't been training as much as he should. Anyway, watching him at the exhibition last night, I felt if he had skated that way during the LP, he probably could have won.
