I'm a dog groomer and that is a good at home job trust me I have seen some bad cuts and ones where the owner cut the dog so bad it had to have staples
I got my dog cut and yes I almost did not recognize him, but he was just as cute maybe more so after his shave! He was a rescue dog who was quite hairy and getting matted again! He looked like an Ewok from Star Wars and then he looked naked, but very cute!! And best of all I could see his beautiful eyes now!

I hate that as much , as your dog hates it! Ask for a number 4 or number 3 haircut. That is short but won't make your dog feel like you have actually pulled the skin off him! nd that coat is cheap and nasty! It doe't fit! It makes him uncomfortable like around the shoulders

You missed the point. My point was I wont spend more on my DOG than I would myself or any other HUMAN member of my family.Its the same as why Vet care is not as expensive as human health care... because HUMANS health is far more important than animal health. @newnham19 You chose the profession. The guy digging the dicthes works much harder than the guy that drew up the plans for the ditchline. But guess who gets paid more? If we grade pay directly to labor all the dummies would be making all the buck. The educated would be om minimum wage. There would be no incentive to advance educationally.

The Groomer not only "draws up the plans" but also grooms the dog, cleans up after, and takes responsibility for the animals well being, as well as maintaining and replacing expensive equipment. And you have it all wrong if you think groomers are uneducated. Grooming is hard physical labor, but it takes precision and skill to use sharp tools on a moving object and make it cute. In many small salons the groomer owns the shop (educational advancement).
@truth333s I didnt go to school for it but i manage to do a fine job on my own shitzu and its free. its a joke to have to go to school to cuts dog hair. Its like people feeling more important because they get a certification in babysitting. Come On!

The dog looks fine. And I bet she actually likes the fresh feeling of being cleanly cut. I cut my shitzus hair like that cause i wont pay $50 for a dog hair cut when I only pay $12 for my own hair.

She is not freezing and she does not have low self esteem... Dogs react to the way YOU act. If you don't care for the dog's face hair properly it does smell... Clean it every other day and switch her to a better good and she won't have stink-face. Good lord

We have to do this with our Shih tzu sometimes as well. Specially when it gets really matted. And ours no matter what loves wearing a sweater. She does look really sad though. Sweet dog.

awww. we do this to my shitzu, muffin too, but shitzu's are apparently prone to eye infections from the hair being in their eyes, so we all gots to take care of our pups! :)
The dog was shivering probably because of nerves, most dogs are still a little shook up after going to the groomers, even after a few days they dont act the same. And also, her self esteem isnt good, because dogs can pick up on you thinking they look ugly, so she thinks she looks ugly..
aw, she does look depressed! but the hair always grows back!! the odor may be from allergies. shih's express allergic reactions in their skin. they get a simultaneous dry & oily skin that gives off a strong odor. and frequent bathing makes it worse. the vet can give a cortisone injection that makes the strong odor go away, but it has to be done about once a month. (i have a 12 y.o. shih)

You should see what my dad did to my Maltese-shih tzu. He just took a pair of scissors and gave him an awful choppy cut on his snout that was so short you could see his skin in some places. Me and my mom were so pissed. And he actually thought it looked cute! He was like "He looks like a beagle!"
Your Dog has Tearing eyes that is why they stink, get her ANGEL EYES, gogle it, put it in her food. With Shih tzu breed you must wipe out under eyes morning and night with a warm wash cloth, no soap, this and Angel eyes will keep the stink away, now let your baby grow some fur back ; )
Im a dog groomer and i definatly go by what the parents want. Or if i think they are wrong i will rocommend products and suggestions. I have to groom 7 shih tzus this way only cause there momma does not take care of them. Your dog is shaking from either the groomer beating her or house problems. Its her nerves sweety. And dogs DO know spanielmom93. With out looking in the mirror cant you tell you had a hair cut? They do too.

@whatamachine89 I have been to 7 different Major grooming places and seen them hit the dogs. Small local places as well. I have a right to say. And i said it was either or. Dogs sense things. And are very close and loving like this momma is with her pet? If you are, watch what happens when the next time you yell

I think she looks just fine... I agree with Willcasaintenay, if you made a fuss over her and made her feel pretty she would be happier... she can tell you don't like it so that is why she is embarrassed... Dogs don't know what they look like until someone else tells them. ;)
you have to now make up for this, but if you show excitement like a child, jump up and down and say, oh mummy's litle girl is beautiful she will react, they react to your moods, so if you show dismay at her cut she will feel upset, so keep telling her she is a beautiful dog, and show you mean it with excitement, the hair will grow back so don't worry
Aww I feel bad for her. Maybe if you took the clothes off of her, she'd feel better. My dogs get like that when they wear clothes. They get embarrassed because it's not natural for them. Also, if you're happy, she'll be happy. Just act like you love the hair cut and watch her mood change.
Strange how dogs seem to become magically cute again around 2 to 3 days after coming home from the groomer with a bad hair doo. (at least in the owners eyes).. but yeah, Yor mom needs to be punished. :)

I think she looks cute, and she doesn't have a low self esteem, is because you are displeased with the haircut and she thinks she's done something wrong. There is nothing wrong with that hair cut. Dogs do not need clothes, although they are adorable. That dog is not cold she's nervous because you are displeased.
try wiping her face w/ saline solution (for eyes) and a cotton ball when it smells bad. seems to work wonders for my guy and he seems to like being cleaned.
her face smells bad because of tear stains, I read in this book that if you wash a shih tzu's face every day I wont smell so bad. Sorry If I'm a smarty, I like to keep people on there toes.
aww, she actually looks pretty good your mom has skills, and yes their faces can get really stinky with the tears from the eyes and the stains in the beards shi tzus are realy high maintenance. short cuts are sometimes the best way to go
Yeah junglemamas you are right! Its the eyes that kind of smell weird.... my shitzu has huge eyes that get irritated easily... he'll tear up and itll cause his face to be moist. And then he seems to be getting a lot of "sleep" in his eyes... like little sticky clumps in the side of his eye.. like we (humans) wipe away when we wake up. that stuff smells kind of gross. Any ideas? I clean my shihtzus eyes everyday.
OMG your mom is so crazy!! Your dog looked PERFECT in the before picture! If she smells bad, bathe her EVERY week. Shih tuz's have beautiful hair, so you can bathe them in human shampoos and conditioners (says our groomer). My shih tzu always smells GREAT.

AAARGH! I'm a groomer, and I would NEVER recommend using human products on a dog, mainly because their skin is different to ours and much more sensitive. Dog shampoos are formulated for dogs skin, human shampoos are too harsh and can cause irritation. Also, you shouldnt really wash your dog unless it absolutely NEEDS it. Every week will strip the oil from their coat.The smell could be coming from her teeth or ears, have you checked them? If they're dirty or infected they will smell REALLY bad.
Okay-- I'll go buy some pet shampoo and conditioner. Bathing him every week i am gunna stick with cause he likes to jump in mud and stuff, lol. And his coat is gorgeous... hes still young, i think hes retaining enough oil.
She doesn't look too bad on her face. Some owners like these short cuts on the shih faces because it does stop the smell if they are tear staining and getting wet beards a lot. Dont worry, if her body is quite short it'll grow back. just keep going through her body coat with a small soft slicker to stop the fuzz turning into matts as the fur grows through.
What is wrong with these scizzor happy groomers? I'm glad your baby's hair has grown back out. I just had my 3 month old shih tzu groomed and just wanted her eye area cleaned up and she came out looking like a pekinese. They took almost all the hair off her face and head! She didn't even have a matt on her silky puppy fur so there was no reason for it. Some of these groomers out there need to find another profession and need to stop making our cute dogs look ugly!
I do agree there are some chop shops out there but we're not all bad. Most of the time, these things occur due to lack of communication. Be absolutely clear before you leave your dog at the groomers, that they know EXACTLY what you want done. If you say 'short' and only mean manageable, they will probably take it you mean short as in rumped into the skin. Make sure they know exactly what they've to do and if they cant do it, go somewhere else, you're paying for it after all :)

she doesn't look that bad...they grow fur so fast...I know I hate it when my old english sheepdog gets a short cut, but he gets way too hot in summer w/ all that fur...I use lavender baby shampoo on him once a week, he's so stinky w/ long or short hair, but it helps him be "fragrant"...
It's good that it can grow back in a week. I feel it's bit cruel to do that. Imagine if somebody shaved of a girl's hair. You can see the pain her eyes. Dogs do have feelings.

lol when my bro in law cut my poodles hair, I didn't recognize him, it was so sad. I couldn't look at him eye to eye, it was just so sad. LOL

Aww.....oh well, I can't talk, I'll be doing my first Shih Tzu this weekend. I'm going to watch videos til I drop first, then get a good night's sleep, and pray...ALOT. Your doggie's a sweetie anyway.

You should see what my dad did to my Maltese-shih tzu. He just took a pair of scissors and gave him an awful choppy cut on his snout that was so short you could see his skin in some places. Me and my mom were so pissed. And he actually thought it looked cute! He was like "He looks like a beagle!"

Your Dog has Tearing eyes that is why they stink, get her ANGEL EYES, gogle it, put it in her food. With Shih tzu breed you must wipe out under eyes morning and night with a warm wash cloth, no soap, this and Angel eyes will keep the stink away, now let your baby grow some fur back ; )

Im a dog groomer and i definatly go by what the parents want. Or if i think they are wrong i will rocommend products and suggestions. I have to groom 7 shih tzus this way only cause there momma does not take care of them. Your dog is shaking from either the groomer beating her or house problems. Its her nerves sweety. And dogs DO know spanielmom93. With out looking in the mirror cant you tell you had a hair cut? They do too.

@whatamachine89 I have been to 7 different Major grooming places and seen them hit the dogs. Small local places as well. I have a right to say. And i said it was either or. Dogs sense things. Either the groomer yelled at her. Spanked her. Or she was feeling the tention of her momma being upset at her grandma. Do you have any pets? A cat or a dog for instance? And are very close and loving like this momma is with her pet? If you are, watch what happens when the next time you yell

@nimeagle i have 10 cats and 4 dogs lol. but i never shout at them or hit them.. they're very loving and friendly.. especially to each other!! but if this dog was abused then that's very sad =(

I think she looks just fine... I agree with Willcasaintenay, if you made a fuss over her and made her feel pretty she would be happier... she can tell you don't like it so that is why she is embarrassed... Dogs don't know what they look like until someone else tells them. ;)

you have to now make up for this, but if you show excitement like a child, jump up and down and say, oh mummy's litle girl is beautiful she will react, they react to your moods, so if you show dismay at her cut she will feel upset, so keep telling her she is a beautiful dog, and show you mean it with excitement, the hair will grow back so don't worry

Aww I feel bad for her. Maybe if you took the clothes off of her, she'd feel better. My dogs get like that when they wear clothes. They get embarrassed because it's not natural for them. Also, if you're happy, she'll be happy. Just act like you love the hair cut and watch her mood change.

Strange how dogs seem to become magically cute again around 2 to 3 days after coming home from the groomer with a bad hair doo. (at least in the owners eyes).. but yeah, Yor mom needs to be punished. :)

I think she looks cute, and she doesn't have a low self esteem, is because you are displeased with the haircut and she thinks she's done something wrong. There is nothing wrong with that hair cut. Dogs do not need clothes, although they are adorable. That dog is not cold she's nervous because you are displeased.

try wiping her face w/ saline solution (for eyes) and a cotton ball when it smells bad. seems to work wonders for my guy and he seems to like being cleaned.

her face smells bad because of tear stains, I read in this book that if you wash a shih tzu's face every day I wont smell so bad. Sorry If I'm a smarty, I like to keep people on there toes.

aww, she actually looks pretty good your mom has skills, and yes their faces can get really stinky with the tears from the eyes and the stains in the beards shi tzus are realy high maintenance. short cuts are sometimes the best way to go

Yeah junglemamas you are right! Its the eyes that kind of smell weird.... my shitzu has huge eyes that get irritated easily... he'll tear up and itll cause his face to be moist. And then he seems to be getting a lot of "sleep" in his eyes... like little sticky clumps in the side of his eye.. like we (humans) wipe away when we wake up. that stuff smells kind of gross. Any ideas? I clean my shihtzus eyes everyday.

OMG your mom is so crazy!! Your dog looked PERFECT in the before picture! If she smells bad, bathe her EVERY week. Shih tuz's have beautiful hair, so you can bathe them in human shampoos and conditioners (says our groomer). My shih tzu always smells GREAT.
I am so glad you arent for the shaved look, especially when your poor dog hates it too! Aww I feel so bad for her

AAARGH! I'm a groomer, and I would NEVER recommend using human products on a dog, mainly because their skin is different to ours and much more sensitive. Dog shampoos are formulated for dogs skin, human shampoos are too harsh and can cause irritation. Also, you shouldnt really wash your dog unless it absolutely NEEDS it. Every week will strip the oil from their coat.The smell could be coming from her teeth or ears, have you checked them? If they're dirty or infected they will smell REALLY bad.

Okay-- I'll go buy some pet shampoo and conditioner. Bathing him every week i am gunna stick with cause he likes to jump in mud and stuff, lol. And his coat is gorgeous... hes still young, i think hes retaining enough oil.

She doesn't look too bad on her face. Some owners like these short cuts on the shih faces because it does stop the smell if they are tear staining and getting wet beards a lot. Dont worry, if her body is quite short it'll grow back. just keep going through her body coat with a small soft slicker to stop the fuzz turning into matts as the fur grows through.

What is wrong with these scizzor happy groomers? I'm glad your baby's hair has grown back out. I just had my 3 month old shih tzu groomed and just wanted her eye area cleaned up and she came out looking like a pekinese. They took almost all the hair off her face and head! She didn't even have a matt on her silky puppy fur so there was no reason for it. Some of these groomers out there need to find another profession and need to stop making our cute dogs look ugly!

I do agree there are some chop shops out there but we're not all bad. Most of the time, these things occur due to lack of communication. Be absolutely clear before you leave your dog at the groomers, that they know EXACTLY what you want done. If you say 'short' and only mean manageable, they will probably take it you mean short as in rumped into the skin. Make sure they know exactly what they've to do and if they cant do it, go somewhere else, you're paying for it after all :)

@KatieBugs2008 -true story i cut my dog hair once (shih tzu) he was so depress intel it grew back i felt so bad he just laid around but now i hear u say your dog did the same thing i dont fill that bad anymore cause he wasnt the only dog who act like that,,one good thing they dont shed

she doesn't look that bad...they grow fur so fast...I know I hate it when my old english sheepdog gets a short cut, but he gets way too hot in summer w/ all that fur...I use lavender baby shampoo on him once a week, he's so stinky w/ long or short hair, but it helps him be "fragrant"...

It's good that it can grow back in a week. I feel it's bit cruel to do that. Imagine if somebody shaved of a girl's hair. You can see the pain her eyes. Dogs do have feelings.
