  • JHL is the blues - Walter Trout and Wolf Mail did a pretty good version of it in a more contemporary style but very much authentic

  • This right here, is how you hear the soul.

  • Shivers up my spine.

  • what the fuck is the tuning right here?

  • @cjwalsh91 Shut up about the tuning. It's not the tuning, it's the FEELING, and you can't replicate that.

  • @cjwalsh91

    Lol....E

  • Anyone know what Yazoo presents is (seen at the start of the video)?

  • its the tone on that guitar what makes me want to grab mine.

  • Wow.

  • Uh Ha!! .. Milk, cream & and alcohol is the old school Rx for bitchez breaking a mans heart. Nice.

  • @jahseedbeatz504 A man has to have a serious case of heartbreak for the doctor to prescribe some white russians just to relax at night!

  • @zabba312 ...lol..just to relax & rest his nerves.. iv been there..

  • I don't think anything has ever moved me like this.. Totally speechless. Just watched it about ten times.. Thanks for posting. This really is music.. Something more than special..

  • @petesowl This is deep shit, ain't it? Something special indeed.

  • This is a good cover, and Jimmy Johnson's is great. Of course, the original is Percy Mayfield's "Memory Pain." Shouldn't go unnoticed.

  • incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Perfection!!!

  • 1 person really deserves to suffer

  • Great footage of John Lee Hooker and sheds some light on his style and approach to the guitar. Thanks for posting.

  • Pure genius on all levels!

    IT HURTS SO SO GOOD!!!!!!

  • Legend, 'nuff said.

  • just ...wow lovin this guy...no man like this singin..

  • this is a great original. who wants to hear some white guy fakin it?

  • @bigkittysmile People who respect the influence? What makes you think he is 'faking it' if he has gone to the effort of recording this song over any other. Maybe he feels like he is suffering? And what does being white have to do with it?? Sure it may not be as 'good'. But that depends what you are using as a basis for judging a single piece of music.

  • @chris45322345 just sayin JLH was a true original. yeah there are white guys or whatever race playing fakey copies of the real blues. too much of that crappy fake stuff on youtube. that's my opinion. hey, think what u want, it's a free country. wow you really got emotion into your reply. thanks for your opinion.

  • @bigkittysmile Lol I guess I did :) Not a problem lol. That kind of mood when I turn to blues eh!!

  • @bigkittysmile By the way it doesn't mean I disagree with you. I'm just glad another person was influenced by a great artist regardless of how it is expressed :)

  • Who disliked this?!

  • Ladies and gentlemen. Meet the blues.

  • one oh the best ever made by john lee

  • He's already 61 in this! Damn!

  • @Somzae That would be 51!

  • It serves me right to suffer

It serves me right to be alone

Now I'm living in the memory

Of a woman that has passed and gone

  • this is such a sad song on so many levels - it's sad that he was suffering and alone, but in a way it's even more sad that he thinks he deserves it, or was the cause of his own suffering .. when people goin to realize it ain't their fault, it's society, and teh corruptions of the past?

  • "While the tale of how we suffer, and how we are delighted, and how we may triumph is never new, it always must be heard. There isn't any other tale to tell, it's the only light we've got in all this darkness."

  • John Lee Hooker = music legend.

  • One of the great overlooked blues standards. JohnLee had that deep dark raw blues sound that hits home. Nothing fancy, flashy, or commercial here...just REAL BLUES baby.

  • the story of my life, btw -- although of course the main point is that this is both extremely psychologically and existentially profound and great music/art

  • John Lee Hooker always was, and always will be The Guv'nor.

  • I'm pretty sure that guitar needs a cigarette after that set.

  • i love his language, it almost sounds like english!

  • Lord have mercy on my soul. I am a sinner. But the Lord still provides.

  • Thank the lord for John Lee Hooker...

  • «Le mal est facile; le bien, difficile.» Le beau, le sublime, est difficile. JLH le démontre.

  • wheres the rest of this set?? so far ahead of its time this is unbelievable!

  • When I left the Ex, and felt like dying every day, an acquaintance handed me a tape of early John Lee's. He said "If this doesn't kill ya, it'll make ya stronger." A few months later he handed me another, later tape, more upbeat with "In the Mood" on it. He said, "You need this one to recover from that one."

  • this speaks to my soul...whatevers left of it anyway...

  • @ourorboros2 I hear that!

  • My doctor wrote me a description

  • Ole John Lee laying it down. Love them delta blues.

  • wow, hes like a 50 year old hendrix!

  • @ruufeeooh Hendrix wouldn't have matched John Lee Hooker if he had lived to 100.

  • John lee hooker for days!!! awesome! there are no words to express how much talent this man has and so much emotion in his lyrics and voice!

  • I couldn't pull up any browser! I couldn't get to my Youtube bookmark. Then... somehow, by the fate of God or the wheel of destiny..... this popped up... A message from God for sure as I can be.................. 5 stars!

  • Who the hell doesn't like this song?

  • @FallaciousGee probably a beiber fan 0_0

  • im sure jimi hendrix gt inspired by him..his style music is powerful, and beautiful

  • Cool.

  • incredibly vivid, psychologically insightful lyrics -- freud had nothing on JLH - beautiful guitar playing -- the best

  • That guitar might as well be a living part of his own body. He is his own sound

  • Blues Legend

    Blues Legende

    Легенда блюза

  • @7DF7

    Legenda blusa...

  • Let's dig this. a description for milk cream and alcohol. I couldn't sleep, that's why he placed me on.. . Milk Cream and

    Alkyhol. Massif chune

  • "It serves me right to suffer. It serves me right to be alone", how awesome is that. Paid much respect in Hancock by P.Berg.

  • I'd like to play as tremendous as him!

  • gary moore's cover "memory pain"

  • Beautiful,

Could listen to this man all day...

  • @someonelikemyself , I'm sorry I accidentally downvoted you...

  • @Troposcatt3r ... Not a problem, there are times when I deserve to be downvoted but aren't, this just provides a bit of balance...

  • @someonelikemyself This guy sounds so much like my brother on a good day.

  • does anyone know what this clip is from?

  • i only wish i could sound that low down and dirty mane. what an inspiration

  • Just run away from home at 15, hobo and work menial labor for a bunch of years, and keep playing guitar and singing.

  • @StrappedGypsy well then smoke a lot of cigarettes, but exercise a lot so you don't get to unfit and unhealthy

  • Milk, creme ... and alcohol

  • Isn't that a white russian?

  • A white russian is Vodka, Kalhua and milk...so you are close :P

  • Ok, thanks! I think I'll stick to beer!

  • He was amazing person!!God bless him...

  • I a great fan of Hooker, i find my play style very similar in terms of rustiness that you just develope and don't smooth out. I guess not ALL errors are bad :D. What a pure track and performance from the great man.

  • God of Blues....
