I don't think anything has ever moved me like this.. Totally speechless. Just watched it about ten times.. Thanks for posting. This really is music.. Something more than special..
@bigkittysmile People who respect the influence? What makes you think he is 'faking it' if he has gone to the effort of recording this song over any other. Maybe he feels like he is suffering? And what does being white have to do with it?? Sure it may not be as 'good'. But that depends what you are using as a basis for judging a single piece of music.
@chris45322345 just sayin JLH was a true original. yeah there are white guys or whatever race playing fakey copies of the real blues. too much of that crappy fake stuff on youtube. that's my opinion. hey, think what u want, it's a free country. wow you really got emotion into your reply. thanks for your opinion.
@bigkittysmile By the way it doesn't mean I disagree with you. I'm just glad another person was influenced by a great artist regardless of how it is expressed :)
this is such a sad song on so many levels - it's sad that he was suffering and alone, but in a way it's even more sad that he thinks he deserves it, or was the cause of his own suffering .. when people goin to realize it ain't their fault, it's society, and teh corruptions of the past?
"While the tale of how we suffer, and how we are delighted, and how we may triumph is never new, it always must be heard. There isn't any other tale to tell, it's the only light we've got in all this darkness."
One of the great overlooked blues standards. JohnLee had that deep dark raw blues sound that hits home. Nothing fancy, flashy, or commercial here...just REAL BLUES baby.
the story of my life, btw -- although of course the main point is that this is both extremely psychologically and existentially profound and great music/art
When I left the Ex, and felt like dying every day, an acquaintance handed me a tape of early John Lee's. He said "If this doesn't kill ya, it'll make ya stronger." A few months later he handed me another, later tape, more upbeat with "In the Mood" on it. He said, "You need this one to recover from that one."
I couldn't pull up any browser! I couldn't get to my Youtube bookmark. Then... somehow, by the fate of God or the wheel of destiny..... this popped up... A message from God for sure as I can be.................. 5 stars!
I a great fan of Hooker, i find my play style very similar in terms of rustiness that you just develope and don't smooth out. I guess not ALL errors are bad :D. What a pure track and performance from the great man.

JHL is the blues - Walter Trout and Wolf Mail did a pretty good version of it in a more contemporary style but very much authentic
