I absolutely love this, and I have nearly died every time I've read it since the first time. It's pure comedic gold, and if you're taking everything so seriously in life that you can't laugh at this, I'm quite sad for you.

Actually Sweeney is only reading Sedaris's story, so I guess he is the chief offender, but she and Ira Glass were co-conspirators in this. Had Sedaris's story been about Catholics, Jews, blacks, homosexuals, or others I think they would be just as offended.

I always thought Ira Glass was interesting. As an adopted person, with a friend who was a Vietnamese adoptee, I gag at the cheap insults Ms Sweeney used to get laughs. Sorry for the thin skin, but I find it disgusting to hear people laughing at this.

The story is about a crazy self-absorbed sburban woman who kills her own granddaughter by putting him in a dryer and blames it on her... ur... half-daughter. If you're offended by those "insults," this story may not be for you.
