That incredible reversing shot at 3:09 is awesome. Can you imagine the logistics it took way back then to arrange for this shot so there was no one else in it?. Today they would probably do it with computers
Avoiding the subject !!!!! When Judas reminds Jesus that he would be prosecuted for his teachings , Jesus already knew his fate. He knew what he had to do. Yet it was still hard for him to swallow. To have to die and wash away all sin past, present and future. But who else would save Gods people from sure punishment. So Jesus got off the subject and told us to not sweat the small crap that life hands us, we are promised Eternal life. Ofcoarse Judas screws him over for 30 pieces of silve
My gosh, it looks like when they're on the tower, that they're dancing right next to the edge with a knee-high safety railing! I know this was made before the days of CGI and green screening and that they had to really be up there, but were they really that close to the edge? Or is it all just a matter of camera perspective?
You're right - that does look absolutely dangerous/terrifying! Someone else said that they think Katie still has her roller skates on up there, but the picture is too grainy on YouTube to tell. Gues I'll have to get the DVD on Netflix and look. If it's really true - again, terrifying! How'd they do that?
@Jolly4jc - if memory serves, there was a ledge a short way below what APPEARS to be the very edge of the building. The rooftop decks were set in quite a ways from the actual sides of the buildings.
Check out Victor Garber's interview on Fresh Air NPR where he talks about filming on the world trade center, and what went through his mind on 9/11, thinking back about that song.
Actually, I believe the whole thing was filmed, ironically enough, in the Wall Street area of Manhattan. Probably because, on the weekends it was deserted in those days.
@lalabunny88 Kind of redundant we see Jesus and Judas singing all for the best on the twin towers. Up until 2001. We thought those towers would never fall. But see how hate and anger and greed from the terrorists brought them down...for Allah ? Money ,Greed and power destroys, Love and passion and grace . Thats Jesus. Earthly treasures aren't permanent . " When...you...get ..to heaven you'll be blessed, yes it's all for the best.
Because they follow the original stage version very closely. And combining lessor characters is very common. And I don't think there's any underlying message.
I love David and Victor singing together. Victor DOES have a great smile, I noticed that. Even now, when he smiles I see the Godspell in him. :) And it makes me happy.

[JESUS] When you feel sad, or under a curse Your life is bad, your prospects are worse Your wife is crying, sighing... I have been watching this and reading some of the comments and I finally had to post. This music is great, but the stories are the best part. Love, god, love eachother, that's what counts. I was a christian way back in the day, when this movie came out. I loved the parables, about how you should be like Jesus and love everyone feed the hungry, give shelter to the homeless. Then along came jerry falwell, pat robertson, the emphasis on money, that was it for me. this makes me miss the good stuff.
1utubeadict, I share your disillusionment with the mainstream church people. There are a lot of hypocrites out there, and a lot of people getting misled by politics.
I agree with Jany1954: you don't have to listen to them. Go straight to the source and you can't go wrong.
If you choose to follow the precepts of Christ, then you're a Christian. Many whom call themselves Christian have very little to do with what Christ said, regardless of what they call themselves. In the end, faith is a personal one-on-one relationship, and should have nothing whatsoever to do with what those around you believe, or how they follow their beliefs, or else your faith will constantly be following the winds of world opinion. The good stuff was always there, and still is.
But also there is no Anti-Gay sings in this movie itss just telling you the life of Jesus! Why are peopole hating gays in the Bible I maen I'm not Cristian but I see no problem with that life style! And one last thing.napoholic: you are cool for this If you where here in front of me id give you a bear hug!!!!
I LOVE this movie! I LOVE the songs! I LOVE all of it!I also think that Victor Garber and David Haskell are SOOO cute! The sad part is that David died of a brain tumor in August 20 2000.But hes still cute! And all great singers.
Even tho my picture is on my profile, I do my best not to always tell any1 my gender, racer, religion, or sexual orientation on a post because it is 2 things: a. unimportant to the topic & b. nobody's business but my own. I wish people would get past the idea of labeling themselves. I am a human being 1st. The content of my character, how I treat others & the love in my heart for all, is paramount. Everything else about me is secondary. {{{{^_^}}}}
Yes he was Jennifer Garner's father in Alias and he was also in the movie Titanic. Seeing him in this movie so young and pretty sort of gave me a weird sad feeling of time passing by.

Robgoth: I was watching this to see the original of my sister's play. Im confused why, im assuming your christian, you have brokeback mountain movie on your profile. homosexuality is a death worthy sin by the bible's decree. but also i dont think 911 was all for the best, we have intolerant muslims dancing on the graves on americans all the while we keep making legal concessions for fear of religiously persecuting them. French police arent allowed in muslim cities of France!
Hear, hear, ITW! It's GOOD to see someone declare their strong faith in God's plan. Would the loving creator of the universe allow any of us to suffer even a moment without purpose when God has the ability to restore all our losses a hundredfold, both materially and spiritually? To me, the idea that misery could ever be pointless defies all logic.
I think that the best thing that anyone can ever hope to do is love. And God also wants for us all to love eachother. In my oppinion, there isn't a difference between men and women when it comes to love. As for the 9/11 bit, I don't think that we should go to war against a whole country, when it isn't a whole country that wants to wrong us.
OsyenVyester, Did you watch the play in total? Because the whole thing is that Jesus=Love. He wants us to LOVE everyone, love thy neighbors (homosexuals), love thy enemies (muslims), love everyone. Everything we encounter has been created by God, forgiven by Jesus, and inhabited by the Holy Spirit. Therefore show your faith by showing Love. Go watch the scene about the Sheeps and the Goats, lol
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yep, watched both my sister's school version and this one. Liked my sister's one better (not to be too biased) But anyway though in regaurds of loving enemies and neighbors, yes, i know that part (quite knowledgeable about the bible) but yet the thing is theres other parts like leviticus 18 thats says homosexuals must be put to death.
Well, I'm not going to start an argument about the validity of religious anti-gay slander (I'm a proud lesbian, and a proud Christian, and I take both things very seriously), but I'm just going to say that untill you take the plank out of your own eye you cannot even THINK about the spec in your brothers, and that him among us without sin can be the first to pass judgement.
No no, Im sorry i think theres been a misunderstanding, I do not think that homosexuality is a sin, Im bi. I was merely citing that the bible thinks that, I, however, do not. But in all fairness, its in Leviticus.
such a spin-out seeing them dance on top of the twin towers. reminds me of when i went to new york and all the old postcards and pictures had them in. without the sklyline just looks empty. being english i didnt realise 'til recently the difference.

I LOVE this movie! I LOVE the songs! I LOVE all of it!I also think that Victor Garber and David Haskell are SOOO cute! The sad part is that David died of a brain tumor in August 20 2000.But hes still cute! And all great singers.

Even tho my picture is on my profile, I do my best not to always tell any1 my gender, racer, religion, or sexual orientation on a post because it is 2 things: a. unimportant to the topic & b. nobody's business but my own. I wish people would get past the idea of labeling themselves. I am a human being 1st. The content of my character, how I treat others & the love in my heart for all, is paramount. Everything else about me is secondary. {{{{^_^}}}}

How long before someone cuts that footage with the planes hitting the WTC?
Only a matter of time.

I was replying to something someone else said. I was talking about the world trade center tragedy. This scene shows the WTC.

Yes he was Jennifer Garner's father in Alias and he was also in the movie Titanic. Seeing him in this movie so young and pretty sort of gave me a weird sad feeling of time passing by.

This used to be my favourite song of the movie.
Wow, the towers. Strange how that wasn't significant at the time, but now...

In the summer of 1972 when this was filmed the WTC was just being competed and you can tell by the building material on the roof.
Interestingly, this I thought of this scene on the afternoon of 9/11. Lets hope that it was All for the Best.

CuriositysCat 3 years ago
OsyenVyester, Did you watch the play in total? Because the whole thing is that Jesus=Love. He wants us to LOVE everyone, love thy neighbors (homosexuals), love thy enemies (muslims), love everyone. Everything we encounter has been created by God, forgiven by Jesus, and inhabited by the Holy Spirit. Therefore show your faith by showing Love. Go watch the scene about the Sheeps and the Goats, lol
<3 God Bless

Yep, watched both my sister's school version and this one. Liked my sister's one better (not to be too biased) But anyway though in regaurds of loving enemies and neighbors, yes, i know that part (quite knowledgeable about the bible) but yet the thing is theres other parts like leviticus 18 thats says homosexuals must be put to death.
OsyenVyeter 3 years ago
Well, I'm not going to start an argument about the validity of religious anti-gay slander (I'm a proud lesbian, and a proud Christian, and I take both things very seriously), but I'm just going to say that untill you take the plank out of your own eye you cannot even THINK about the spec in your brothers, and that him among us without sin can be the first to pass judgement.
Talk2ben 3 years ago
No no, Im sorry i think theres been a misunderstanding, I do not think that homosexuality is a sin, Im bi. I was merely citing that the bible thinks that, I, however, do not. But in all fairness, its in Leviticus.
OsyenVyeter 3 years ago
actually one other side not about the comment i just made: Im not christian if that helps clarify a bit more about me.
OsyenVyeter 3 years ago
Haha
Ok
Well, yeah, leviticus says a lot of crazy shit.
Talk2ben 3 years ago
I don't get anything about anti-gay from this movie. It is about stories from the Bible. Put into a play with song and dance.
Idolmakercat 3 years ago
such a spin-out seeing them dance on top of the twin towers. reminds me of when i went to new york and all the old postcards and pictures had them in. without the sklyline just looks empty. being english i didnt realise 'til recently the difference.
