  • This is without doubt Tom Cruises greatest performance.

  • its interesting because jamie foxx went cold almost immediately after this, both in music and film. I never quite worked out why.

  • cruise played vincent so well i forget he was da villian...i kinda wanted him to kill foxx and smith at the end

  • I haven't seen many reviews from around this time. You can tell Ebert's health has gone downhill here, his voice barely sounds like him, not even like how he sounded just a couple of years before.

  • @buckleygeneration Yeah, this was a year or so after he went under surgery for thyroid cancer.

  • The biggest blooper for me is that even after the taxi flips over, the laptop is still intact.

  • @greensucksbluerules well then the movie isn't something for you then.

  • fuck tha haters, Cruise was electrifying in this! "Bullets & the fall killed him," Riveting! Came out right around the time he jumped on the couch, & everyone was hating on him. Even Jarvier Bardem brief appearance was off the chain. One of the best in the last 10yrs.

  • @greensucksbluerules because it's a great, tense thriller

  • @greensucksbluerules Congratulations! You proved that you transfer a movie like this into the real world in your Mindset. I nominate you to... oh screw this.

i can understand why you don't like the movie (at all?). It starts out strong and ends with a predictable ending which is basically vomit inducing. However i think especially the performances by the actors were very fitting and absolut on top.

maybe you can tell what you don't like about the movie.

  • @greensucksbluerules congratulations! you proved that you are unable to understand human behaviours and fears of such as shown in this movie. i nominate you to youtube-douche of the month!

  • collateral was such a great movie. cruise was perfect was the villain. i dislike jamie foxx but he was also awesome. michael mann is probably one of the best filmmakers out there.

  • Has Ebert had a stroke or something? His voice has changed so much on this review. It's wierd he doesn't sound like him anymore

  • @horrorfan24 cancer, actually

  • Totally agree, this is a character driven movie that has action and violence in the background and the dialog is absolutely excellent.

  • Cruise kinda gives a Guy Pearce type performance in this.Good Stuff

  • @courey2011 Whoa, okay, I guess we have different taste in movies. I love both of those films, especially minority report. But I kind of agree about Cameron Crowe, he does kind of seem a bit full himself. Overrated? hmm... I really like Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire, but Vanilla Sky and Elizabethtown suck dick.

  • lol cruise is not a great actor by any means. hes just a pretty face whos received acting training. the ONLY movies which hes good in are, this one, and Jerry mguire. mayb risky business.

  • @ThaSubzstance Completely disagree. Magnolia, Born on the 4th of July, Minority Report, Eyes Wide Shut, even his ealier role in The Outsiders, and yes, Jerry Maguire, and a bunch of his action films as well.

He is a very good actor who has gotten too much attention for other things that have undermined his talent.

  • @hmichaelt Do you know cruise personally? That's what I thought. Separate the personal from professional life.

  • watch the cuba gooding jr/wings hauser version the hit list.

  • tom cruise is awesome in this movie, he should do more work like this

  • Rain man, Vanilla sky, Last samurai, Collateral, all oscar worthy performances that didnt even get nominations, while Clooney keeps getting nominated for ever crappy performance, shit hes even one an oscar before Cruise

  • i watched this movie every nite for a whole summer and i never got tired of it

  • I have to say, I liked jamie foxx in this but i thought cruise was better and foxx got all the glory.

  • best line ever: " I should only kill people after i get to know them??!!!!"

  • I love Jamie Foxx's flipout scene in this, when he finally snaps at Cruise, goes nuts and rolls the car. It felt like a satisfying surprise becaue he'd played a weak, spineless everyman until that point.

  • @boiledelephant What about when he adopts Vincent's slick persona in Jose's nightclub?

  • @McRighty I'd forgotten about that, actually. I need to watch this film again, it was so underrated. I'd like to find other good Jamie Foxx films, too, he's really enjoyable to watch.

  • Great film, really philosophically deep actually.

  • Jamie fox kinda sux

  • They're spot on in this review.

The reason I enjoy Collateral so much is because it isn't a brainless action film like so many others. The characters have some really interesting dialogue and Vincent is easily on my "favourite villains" list, he has some real depth to his personality.

    Great film.

  • Obviously the ending is weak but good film.

  • One of my favorite movies of all time.

  • For those who say Cruise can't act or he plays himself all the time, just STFU and watch Collateral.

  • Watched this film for the first time last night. It's now one of my favorite movies. Tom Cruise needs to take more roles like this.

  • love this movie

  • Truly Great Film Michael Mann knows his shit

best cops and robbers film ever (Heat)

First ever attempt at red dragon(good effort)

  • The villain isn't always the most interesting character.

  • @Nightavenger2 . nope, just most of the time.

  • @SparksDrinker We agree to disagree. I agree villains are interesting characters but people mainly cheer on the hero to say them get smashed.

  • @Nightavenger2 . who people cheer for has nothing to do with it. more often than not, the villain is more interesting. this is because the hero is usually handcuffed to a certain value set.

  • @SparksDrinker In Aladdin I'm more interested in Aladdin not Jafar.

  • Splendid movie. Strong written material, and a strong written material all around. Cruise is splendid as a villain.

  • Excellent movie. Cruise won a award I think MTV for best villain. He's very slick at playing the villain, and hit a homerun. Colorful characters, splendid story, seem realistic not distorted, and all around strong written material.

  • I love how Ebert compares Jamie Foxx to other black actors...i think roger is racist.

  • @curak76

    dude your a racist

  • @curak76 His wife is black lol

  • @curak76 How is that racist?

  • I don't think Tom Cruise gets too much slack for his acting skills, because he is really good and only gotten better throughout the years - it's his personal life that poses a problem. For me, I'm not interested in Tom Cruise as a person, just the characters he portrays.

  • @AlsatianCousin

Yeah, being a free-thinker myself I don't give a hoot about his beliefs

Look at the guys career for crying out loud, and he is a wonderful actor.

Can't wait for M.I.4 by Brad Bird

  • I really love this movie. In fact, it's one of my all-time favorite films (alongside 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Godfather, Koyaanisqatsi, & Batman).

By the way, it's pretty funny to see how they edited the clips that were used for this review.

  • great movie!!!!

  • Thanks for posting this review.

  • You are very welcome .

  • Great review. This is my favorite movie. I don't know how many times i have seen it now, but it never gets boring for me.

  • @henrik6754 Do you reckon Tom Cruise gets too much slack from people?

    I really think he's a wonderful actor :)

  • @henrik6754 This movie is endlessly watchable.
