  • Cool music at 4:13. Whats the name?

  • Im using my new macbook air and this shit is fast, it takes me less than 10 seconds to restart the computer, It took less than a minute to install the whole 2011 Microsoft office, this would take about 20 to 30 minutes on my previous laptop, photoshop installed in just about a minute aswell, it's a good laptop, but I'm debating about getting a 15in pro because of the screen, superdrive and more space, but I will miss out on the SSD

  • @cvunit What about external screen and external hard drive? It is still portable and you don't need your whole video library if you are on the go. And a 13"-screen is enough when you are outside. And CDs are outdated, I think..

  • @feschlix yea thats what I been thinking, and I think I'm going to keep it because the 15in is less portable, its better to just get a large LCD screen and hook it up with HDMI for home use

  • Less moving parts = faster

  • @wynnerd It depends on your budget. If you can afford the pro, go for it. If not, the Air is good enough. If you're not a gamer, the Air is a good pick along with being light and portable. Otherwise, the Pro is more powerful and has more storage.

  • I like the reference to cross country as I run. Good review! One thing I notice is that the Pro has a lot more programs and files and has had more use so it might be slower from that, along with fragmentation and such. A clean install of Lion or Snow Leopard on both Macs would have been more accurate.

  • macbook air 13inch or macbook pro 13inch?! pls pls help

  • Penis

  • the music is Nezzera freom roblox wuut wuut :P

  • Awesome

  • this isnt fair the 2011 mba vs the mbp everyone would know that the mba would win becuase it is updated

  • which one did u edit the video on? ;)

  • The MBP here is of a low specification, only a base model i think, whereas you are using the most updated Air available! My MBP Pro 2010 is i7 with 8Gb RAM & 7.2k HDD .. Would be interesting to see your Air up against that!

  • noob

  • Core 2 Duo is not outdated, just upgrade to a SSD and maximize the ram.

  • Exactly what I was looking for. Just started working on Videos regularly on my MBP latw 2008 and was wondering wheather the difference in benchmarks is able to see in real life.

    Quite impressive!

    Thanks a lot for making/uploading!

  • It's not just SSD vs HDD. Most of these test are CPU/GPU intensive more so than Disk.

  • @blackprince310 my birthday is coming up what should I get air or pro?

  • @blackprince310 how much ssd gb have you got on your air?

  • this guy sounds like a loser :/

  • the macbook air may be faster but the macbook pro is more practical because the macbook air doesnt have any dvd drive and has little memory but the macbook pro has a dvd drive and way more memory

  • @whatthefudge2009 I can't remember the last time I actually used my DVD drive, it's all downloads now. And memory? They both come with 4GB standard.

  • @TechJudgment but still though if ya wanted to burn a cd into itunes or putting a dvd on the hard drive

  • how can you compare a laptop that has SSD vs a dam 5400 rpm HDD...

  • I love my MBA 2012!!! :D

  • Thank you

  • what the application name to check how fast is your mac

  • fell free to give me the one u dislike.

  • Should I get the 2011 MBP or the 2011 MBA? Either one would be 13 inch and 4GB Ram. Does the MBA have HD facetime?

  • @mymarkis666 MBA doesn't have HD facetime. The camera quality is still ok (I don't use it that often, but it's enough for videochats). I bought the 2011 MBA and I can truely say that this was the best purchase i have made for a loooong time :) I like it so much more than the MBP. And due to the SSD it's balzin fast! It's definately worth its money. (And as you can see, competitives aren't cheaper :P)

  • Its NOT all about the processor. I used to work in a Apple store when the Airs forst came out and you could choose between SSD and conventional HD. We would run them against each other for different things like startup, starting apps, etc etc. The SSD would beat out the HD Air hands down by sometimes twice the speed... Honestly I dont believe this is a fair comparison.. cos its NOT just all up to the processor

  • @svh68 it's quite fair on the video rendering test...

  • Which fan goes louder when using flash player? Or are they the same?

  • very good video and tests

  • at 3:59 did the air already winn???

  • you sound like bendro, just pointing it out. great video, subscribed.

  • I have to say though. If you installed as SSD on the Pro It would probably be faster -- Although not much and the i5 processor is light years ahead of the Core II Duo, faster none the less.

  • the dock looks like a wave with all apps jumping :)

  • do you buy all the stuff you review? just wondering

  • I liked this review but keep in mind that the air has the i5 so it says it's 1.8 but can use turbo boost it's on the MacBook plus it has more cores meaning it takes advantage of all of those features pulse the ssd is unfair to much of advantage on airs part :(

  • im getting an air or pro for christmas the pro looks better on paper but all the videos i watch the air does better so should i get the air?

  • Would the macbook air run minecraft in30FPS ? Or atleast 20 - 30?

  • It's normal that Macbook Air 2011 with SSD is faster than a Macbook Pro 2010 with hard drive. Try to install an SSD in the macbook pro and repeat all your tests

  • how much RAM do your macbook pro have in this video??

  • rats i am using a 2.4 GHZ core 2 duo macbook pro

  • So are they both new

  • Ill take your pro if you think it is that bad.

  • Hey Prince, I have a question, how are the speakers in the Macbook Air compared to the 13 inch Macbook Pro?

  • All these tests were because of the ssd not necessarily the new processor. The i5 did help alot, but these tests mostly proved the ssd's performance compared to the 5400 rpm hard disk.

  • I have the air its really fast and i dont have problems with editing or anything like its a really GREAT laptop!!!

  • So, a Mac Air would be better for speed, but what about if you are an editor that edits CoD, will the Pro or Air win in that situation?

  • Comment removed

  • I have a 2010 macbook pro 2.4 core 2 duo, do you think the new MBA 13 i5 will have better battery life?

  • thank you for showing this test

  • i have 2011 MBP

  • I wonder if the MacBook air new 2011 i5 are able to handle YouTube HD easily and a lot of tabs open with a few other programs open as well. I really want an air but not if it's too slow.

  • MBP would blow MBA if it had SSD.

  • You should spend your MBP a nice ocz vertex 3 and repeat the test! MBA will be seemingly slow!

  • im going to hopefully get the 2011 imac 27 inch with the 2.7 ghz i5 quad core and AMD Radeon HD 6770M gpu it can play blackops better than some high performance gaming pcs and is just phenomenal at rendering hd video

  • well the air is of course faster because of the i5 and the pro only has a core 2 duo

  • Where did you get that wallpaper from? It's awesome!

  • Should name the vid SSD vs 5400rpm HDD.

  • @TheP3rre is a 7200 rpm faster?

  • @TheP3rre is FLASH no ssd

  • @TheP3rre

Or even possibly "Trying to put the 1 year old Macbook Pro down!"

  • @TheP3rre I concurrrr, ssd is the biggest performance booster i know

  • Yet another st00pid comparison. Put an SSD drive in MBP and it will be X times faster - it's that obvious.

  • Sigh. Like the head-to-head, but c'mon. Really? "You are done Core 2 Duo. You are worthless". Rubbish. The 2010 MacBook Pro would meet the needs to 99% of the people perfectly fine. Needless consumerism.

  • I love windows and I will definitely try to keep bought operative systems for different purposes. Mac for fun and quality and pc for performance and gaming.

  • @papichulo885 or just get a kick ass mac with fusion and do both on the same machine...win7 usually runs faster as a virtual then on true hardware...

  • I have to admit that the general quality of the Mac is mush better than a pc. This laptops fly, and not counting that I own a 6core processor desktop with 10gb memory. But, the Mac is truthly something unique. You really get what you pay for.

  • I bought a Mac pro 2nd generation intel 5 this week in order to try something new. I been a pc fan for a while. I got an iPhone 3GS and I end up getting an iPhone 4.

  • I'll def say it's out of date the core 2 but not worthless. It's served many well especially myself and it definitely earned my respects but yes the I series is impressive. I just still am surprised I got the blue screen of death on windows 7 ultimate on the new air. Still trying to resolve any issues ons that.

  • very nice works men.thank you.

  • unfair comparison.

  • Idk if i shood get the macbook air are the macbook pro. The macbook pro has a dvd slot but the mac book air is lighter thener and faster. I'm stuk

  • Lol, you're not comparing a mbp 13" mid 2010 vs a mba 13" 2011, you're comparing a ssd vs a hdd

  • i think your shit and brain are oudated

  • you seem to be proficient with the mac airs, so I would ask you

    1) Is there a point to upgrading to 4Ram? (I just bought a Macbook Air 11, i5)

    2) There is a weird screeching noise every time I plug in my iPhone 4 headphones (the noise is in headphones). I looked for the solution on the internet, a lot of people seem to have the problem, but noone knows what is the cause.

    Cheers

    3)

  • @Nachalo756

It really depends on what applications you are using with your mac, I would not recommend the upgrade for one reason - ssd hd is quit fast and it will recharge files to the RAM quite quickly if you will run big apps. From the size of your mac I would assume that you will not be using it for rendering graphics with various apps etc. so you should not be alert.

About that noise - does it start right after you plug it in or when itunes detects your device?

  • is there any lag with video editing

  • it doesn't seem that the review is fair.

1.your macbook pro seems to be 'dirty' with more apps on it , how about trying fresh install with no apps on it?

2.since you mention about 2010 , i assume your MBA is new while your MBP SSD should been abused, wiping your MBP SSD would give a condition same as the MBA thus fairer results.

i felt that a fair comparison between two machines is to put them on an almost same condition

  • Comment removed

  • is the macbook air 13inch core i5 1.7ghz good enough for 10min worth of 1080p video editing on final cut pro x?

  • What program did he use in the beginning to compare the MacBooks?????

  • let me ask you. which screen do you liked best. air or pro? do you notice a huge difference?

  • i love how u use a sports theme in the opening lol

  • Good video - I included it in my recent comparison of the MacBook Air 11" vs 13" at FMYI's website.

  • Nice video

  • hey dude i would love if you could help me out, im a uni student and im doing games and game design, i already have a i7-920 with 12g ram desktop at home but i wanna get a mac laptop, really all i need is typing/internet/research, though if i could and the air could i would probally have photoshop and illustrator aswell, im wodnering what i should get MBP or MBA, help me out, if i just want to do tyhe simple stuff just get an 11inch air, but i kinda want the 13 inch, idk what do you suggest?

  • You confused Me. In the video you keep saying it's a core i7 but in the title of the video it says i5. Which is it?

  • you didn't compare performance on game's however wich is were the pro would probably win (especially in windows)

  • sorry,I'd like to ask you a thing because I'm going to buy my first mac *__* :Do you think macbook air is powerful enough if i want to work with xcode?

  • @ziosonnyPSN Yes. Although I would highly suggest the baseline MBP as it's pretty much better in all regards. Not to mention cheaper as well. 150 cheaper at that with the education discount. AND you get the 100 dollar App Store giftcard as well.

  • yea how have your heat issues with the mba been vs the mbp... i have a old ass mbp and it overheats like a MO FO

  • you are literally the first person i have ever heard say "peace" and not sound like a tool!

  • Befor I get a Mac I was wondering which one is got for gameing and Facebook and stuff the MacBook air 13inch or the MacBook pro!!

  • nasty.. MBA 2011 rocks

  • Very cool! thanks for posting. I'm wondering what the new Mac Book pros are doing now.. I've got a 2008 Mac Pro tower 2 x 4 x 2.8ghz.. wonder what sort of real world render times are different for FCP especially with the newer version.. I bet it's pretty comparible now.

  • However, it's also worth noting that you've probably installed a lot of stuff of the MBP, slowing it down some. Computers out of the box are usually quite a bit faster than 1 year into use.

  • Kinda ridiculous how a portable machine beats out the "powerful" machine one year older. Ridiculous how fast technology improves.

  • u got a nice voice

  • This is a perfect comparo- now I know how fast the MBA is compared to the c2d mbp, which I plan to replace with that MBA. Thanks for the review!

  • I have a big giant HP 15'' lap, and that is crazy heavy. really want to buy the air as an addition lap on the go.

  • i need someone to compare the 2011 macbook pro 13 base model (2.3) vs the 13 inch macbook air base (1.7)... Which one would you recommend?

  • thanks for posting this.. i dunno why they take it off the nvidia graphics from their newest model... btw no offense you can afford to buy mac computer but how come you dont have iphone.lol

  • @metalgear20 Cause he likes the nexus s better.........

  • Which one would you suggest: The new Macbook Air or the new Macbook Pro??

  • This is a good review, but you should know that opening apps has nothing to do with the processor. That's the ssd working its magic.

  • I love my mba :-)

  • why diddnt you use the 2011 mbp???

  • How smooth was it using FCPX with the MBA (ordering it for Uni)

  • How much gig is the 13 inch Mac air?

  • @PoliticalNewsUS as in RAM 4gb is maximum, as in storage 256gb Maximum.

  • Where did you get your background?

  • Intel Core i-series and SSD FTW! XD

  • You can't really compare them 1-to-1 since the MBA has a SSD compared to the HDD of the MBP.

  • Thanks for the informative video. You've helped me a lot. That's a all I need to know. I choose the MBA 13" with i5 prozessor. After seeing what you do with the i5, I definitely need no i7. Thanks again.

  • Help.. So Should i get a MBA with SSD.. OR MBP installed with SSD?

I'm really contemplating between which to get.. MBA or MBP.. :(

.. at the end of it, all i need is a better and more reliable notebook and faster.

  • @phenochio If power is more important to you then get the MBP, if you need something really portable then get the MBA.

  • @phenochio MBP is the way to go... ;)

  • @phenochio depends on wath you need, personally i reffer the mba cuz is lighter, easy to move, and a lot of autonomy, the mbp fells like some big old laptop for me

  • Honestly there are tons of laptops with 3x better specs, for half the price. For a college student like me, its just not a logical option. Not to say that the MBA is a bad laptop by any means.

  • @rahmanroni Specs don't mean it will be a better product. Just look at all these dual-core android phones that are still laggy and inconsistent.

  • @BlackPrince310 I know what you mean, I was merely speaking out of personal experience with my laptop which cost $600 (previously had a 2010 macbook), has better hardware and it has yet to slow down. What I meant was that if you need something a bit more powerful on a budget and having an ultra thin laptop isn't your priority, then there are better options. Again, not saying the MBA is bad by any means.

  • @BlackPrince310 Word. It's the hardware-software combination that makes the difference

  • I completely agree with you, my Android phone is always crashing so I intend on buying an iPhone soon. People who say Mac’s are overpriced are just not educated enough to understand the value of the operating system. If they used a Mac Book for a week they would be amazed. My Sony Vio Intel i7 6GB Ram + 2GB dedicated Nvidia graphics card performs significantly slower when compared to my Mac Book Pro with an i7 and only 4GB of Ram. I paid more for the Mac but that Sony is worth nothing.

  • @MasterEric988

And you are educated enough to know better then the rest of the world just because you know true and hidden value of overpriced platforms using some OS. Have you ever ran 2 equivalent games on the same machine using 2 different OS's? Windows performance is so much higher. Get bootcamp for your mac and see for your self.

Get your hands on sensation or galaxyS2 - then we will talk about android. And your iPhone is good only for 1 thing - making holes in your pocket.

  • @BlackPrince310 I have a dual core android.. galaxy s2 and believe it its not laggy one bit!

  • @rahmanroni show me one of your half price laptop with 11 inches with dual core i5

  • @kikeronaldo HP Pavilion dv6t. Got mine after my macbook broke in an accident.$600= 15" LED display, 2.3 GHz i5, 6 GB ram, 640 GB 7200 RPM HD (I know this isn't a SSD, but I never said it was), blu ray & beats audio. In case you didn't read my previous comment: I didn't say MBA was bad, all I said was that if you are on a tight budget (ie: a college student) & you need something a bit more powerful, there are other options. If you want something sleek, fast & small, then MBA is the way to go.

  • @rahmanroni then in 6 months or less you HP laptop will be with problems like overheat, fails and all this stuff, pc cost less but quality is less too, mac hardware is overrated but the quality for the product is amazing

  • @kikeronaldo Sure it will, which is why it came with a 3 year warranty. What pisses me off the most are fanboys like you, with your ridiculous claims that just ends up making everyday mac and pc users look retarded. Its amazing how you have two things made out of the same components yet one is supposedly better just because you payed more for it. And guess what? Both hp and apple laptops are manufactured by the same chinese company in the same factories.

  • @rahmanroni then why macbook have more quality, non heat problems etc, like i say before, mac hardware is overrated but the quality of the product is amazing, i have one Imac since 2008 with core 2 duo and vertex 2 ssd and still works amazing with snow leopard but i think is time to change now =D

  • @kikeronaldo

Those are very old problems. The truth of the matter is that more people own windows based PCs than macs so there are more problems reported. I'm using a HP laptop I brought in 2008 and I haven't had any problems with it. The only thing I've had to replace was the battery (sadly this is where the cost cutting came into play). But hey, that's life. Many of the problems that are associated with windows laptops and desktops come from the cheaper built models.

  • @dadudeguy2vlog Hp quality sucks!! the best pc is ASUS

  • @rahmanroni foxconn manufacture components for Intel, Dell, Apple, Acer and microsoft. All the major companies, What's your point?

  • @nickw73 That was my point..........

  • @rahmanroni Fanboys will be fanboys. In the end, It's always the same debate. Mac vs Pc. Theres never going to be a winner. It's like a debate between pb&J and Ham and Cheese. Neither is better, it all depends on what you want in your computer

  • @rahmanroni

their design is different despite being made in the same place

  • @rahmanroni Man, call me an Apple Fan or whatever you want, but you CANT beat any of Apple OS or Laptops. What is the serious competitor for the Macbook Air? The Sony Vaio Z, its costs 2000$. How can you compare that. Sure, there are 500$ laptops that are faster but that is not the point with the Macbook Air, it is an ultraportable computer! That means great performance, SSD and long battery life!

    Hope i enlightened you.

  • @LanteanStargater Did you read my other comment? I said get the macbook air if ultra portability is a priority, but if you need something more powerful on a right budget and ultra portability isn't a priority, there are other options. No, you haven't enlightened me. All you did was repeat what I already said.

  • @rahmanroni The only comment i read was the one saying you could have 3x specs for half the price (wich you cant ). If you made other comment i didnt saw those.

  • @LanteanStargater Kinda depends on which model you look at. Again, I didn't say they would be as portable or w.e. As stated before, all I meant was that if you are on a tight budget and you dont need ultra portability, then there are better options (even the MBP offers more at a similar price). I was assuming people wouldn't take it word for word.

  • @rahmanroni The thing is , these days if you want to browse the web or just sending a couple of mails, you go for a low spec, ultra portable computer WITH AN SSD. Belive it or not it really makes a difference in performance.

  • @rahmanroni, sorry i was a pc user for how many years.. since 2001?, built my own p/c's.. finally switched over to an iMac.. and recently got my macbook pro.. if you haven't' used a mac.. it's operating system is tons more stable.. + you get better screen for use with photography.. apps for videos and photos, easier for people who blog.. and battery life kills any p/c vs size.. even new lion operating system is very stable and fast + incorporates "gestures", so cool for navigating the web..

  • @rahmanroni yes you pay more, but you get a better functioning laptop that will be more usable vs pc.. i think most people don't switch because of the price.. but once you do, i don't' think i'd ever buy another pc laptop..

  • @rahmanroni There are a lot more things to think about than specs. I'm going into my second year and I can honestly say I would never use a Windows machine as my main computer again. Using OS X (as a power user) really showed me how, to be blunt, amazing these laptops are.

6+ hour battery life, no virus protection software, no slowdown over time, an amazing trackpad (which I can't talk about enough), backlit keyboard, amazing build quality, and many more.

    The MBP is worth it.

  • @YSPDJapan I never said anything about macbook pro. All I said was that unless portability its your uttermost concern, it would be smarter (for those who are on a tighter budget, ie: college students) to get the mbp or some other laptop instead of the macbook air. Please read threads before you reply to them. And as for the osx vs windows argue, don't even start that because no one said anything about that and we don't need more flame wars on this video.

  • @rahmanroni All I simply did was state my opinion on the matter. Get off your high horse.

  • @rahmanroni yeah but the MBA has flash storage, which is 2x faster than a spinning hard drive.

  • Dell XPS 15z is better and cheaper...Only noob rich kids buy Mac tho

  • @alexzicong dell is terrible. the quality of there parts is such disgusting

  • @alexzicong bettter and cheaper? try a mac :) for 2 days :)

  • @daneedition I converted from a macbook to a windows laptop, but not dell, they suck. So far, can't say I'm missing anything, but yeah, fanboys on both sides need to calm down. Its just products.

  • this is pretty stupid and unfair comparison. a core i5 vs a core 2 duo. and the MBA has an ssd. of course it better.

  • Great video! Congratulations!

  • does the macbook pro also have the ssd?

  • Nice Nexus S. I use the same timer app almost everyday for cooking dinner.

  • Is their going to be a iPad 2 vs samsung galaxy tab 10.1?

  • does anyone know if the new macbook pros are faster than the new macbook airs?

  • @BlackPrince310 ordered it online. Do you have any heat issues.

  • @lptgators Nope.

  • Windows all the way, but macs are cool might have to pickup a mac book air

  • Sandy Bridge MBPs is surely much faster than this 2011 MBA but if we consider the cost factor the new MBA is really great!

  • Great vid bro! The music was too funny! I suppose it's time now to part ways with my 17" MBP C2D. I'm going to miss the big display, but I need the MBAs portability. I'll make up for it with an external monitor.
