Yeah I hate flash too, and CGI's not so bad but it just makes everything too realistic and it doesn't even feel like a cartoon anymore. 2D characters are always more appealing to look at than CG.
No, you're totally right! In 3D, you really are limited by technology whereas in 2D, you can do a lot. Normally, I can simply draw a picture of a girl with a pencil with no worries. Whereas in on the computer, I can't because either I don't know how to do it or the computer won't let me or the software doesn't have that technique.
@DarqV You are so right! People shouldnt assume 2D animation is limitless until they try it and most people in 3d/CG cant draw...which is probably why they think 2D is more limited. :D
@shippoiscoolbitches CG is computer animation, like your Pixar films and basically every animated film now around. It used to be loosely called 3D because you are seeing the characters/world in the 3rd dimension...but now we have the 3D glasses films back in business (which is an old gymic and used to get more money from the public and actually makes films look worse) we now have to really say 2D or CG...Computer Generated Images. Where 2D, Emperors New Groove, Princess & the Frog, is hand drawn
@andartarius I remember having to do charts in my animation degree at Uni...when I first started animating I get so confused and then when I really understood them it made everything work better. Those were the days.
Third that. I think that it's sad that what characterized Disney the most (its weonderful animated features) are dying out just to let CGI movies in. Not that they're bad, but i think Disney is leaving that which represented them the most.

Not to be a nitpicker but it's the other way around man.
You can do much more in 2D than in 3D.
With 3D you're limited by the technology, in 2D you're only limited by what you can draw.
However, either way it's a matter of personal taste.

@delfunkster Wow, really, really late, dude. I now know this soooo yeah. Also you misspelled gimmick.

More is not always better. While I respect and appreciate the art of 3D, it simply lacks the soul that a hand drawn animation has.

Great animation on Kronk here by Tony Bancroft (who also animated Pumba in "The Lion King" , among others) .
