  • Omg I'm from Edmonton too and I'm an Irish dancer. And I was at the Enoch feis!!! What level are you?

  • oh you mean like a "foam donut" caus I'v never heard of foam

  • Comment removed

  • i like the wigs...........:)

  • Really, if I were religious, I'd make a novena hoping for the day when these silly wigs are abandoned by Irish dance. After river dance and Lord of the dance, I had hope but it was dashed.

  • @shockshockshad ikr that's not right the poof is missing and u need the wig that gies down to ur middle back I'm also in pc almost in champ but this persons wrong

    Thing that are missing

    -a wig in style

-a crown that matches ur dress

    -POOF

    -donut

    -pins

And Irish dancing isn't original anymore it's spray tanning and fakeness and talent

  • AMAZING! When I used to dance competatively no-one wore wigs - we all used to spend about 3-4 hours the night before putting (in my case as I have very long thick hair) 200 rollers in - and then being unable to sleep in them as they were so painful so you would turn up to a feis in a horrible mood having had no sleep at all!

  • @Katie12345100 You didn't have those foam things? They're good, but the time spent to get this ridiculous look is absurd. Very few girls look good this way.

  • what?????? that is NOT HOW YOU PUT IT IN!!!!!!!!!!! first of all you do not do 4 buns on the top of your head it will give you a weird part in the front, weres the poof???????????????? 2nd the fomy things you put in your hair called dounts DO NOT GIVE YOU MIGRANS 3rd you have to pin the wig 3rd you do not where those crowns!!!!!!! wrong wrong wrong i know what i am talking about i am in pc beleive me PS your wig looks awful on u

  • Haha with all the new wigs nowadays, yours would be considered small (not to be rude, i am just saying how its gotten a little crazy)

  • im a irish dancer, ive just moved into prelims.

but what i find with them wis is that they look more proffeional with a quive, my sister does my wig, and i find that the quive allways goes flat once ive put the wig on. we have looked around for the quive thingys, but we cant find any, anyone have any tips for not letting the quive go flat? xxx

  • hey :) i was just wondering what level you are? open champ ??????? xxx

  • im an irishdancer and i have been dancing for 15 years. 150$ in ireland ours wud be bout £200 -300. mine was 350 im a very competive dancer and dance in alot of compo make more videos! ur funni :)

  • Thanks a mill for puttin this up because i used to have some trouble putting my wig on and now i know not to put my hair in one bun anymore :P Thanks! (: xx

  • thanx lol

  • I'm so glad my hair curls naturally, I can't imagine trying to jump around with a wig! D: I would think it would feel strange!

  • okaay first of all im a dancer myself and i started when i was 4 . 2nd of all u never EVER cut curls off wether their frizzy or not u just cut the frizz off !! 3rd - try not to wash ur hair befor u dance ... 4th wigs look so much better when u have a bun at the top of ur hair !!

  • lol i love it when people comment on videos acting like they know EVERYTHING. if you know so much then why are you looking up instructional videos? why dont you make your own video if youre sooo educated on this subject. lol u act like its a cool thing to know how to put on a wig.

  • I heard that the wig helps to make the audience feels that the dancer has more movement and there is better rythm in the dance than what you would show without wig. Without the wig, it is what I heard -I am not an expert- the dancer looks more static.

  • Its also becuase its IRISH dancing, and Irish people stereotypically have curly hair. I personaly think it looks ridiculous.

  • I still really really don't understand why Irish dancers put a wig on, it just looks ridiculous!!! Even the curling of the hair, WHY?? I doesn't look natural at all. I dance Irish for three years now and thank god that my teacher does hate the wigs too, so I never have to wear a wig. The Irish run mad... Seriously.

Just dance with your own hair, that's lovely! Riverdance is a good example for that (the modern version).

  • what's the best way to get a wig?? online or at a feis? where did you get yours?

  • Hey, Babyrack,

ok, getting them at feis is alot more productive than getting them online, like i said, if you have to ask for a colour swatch or even take a picture if you have go online. with the feis, the wig seller will show you how to put it on and how to take care of it. and what to do if something goes wrong. and she will make sure it matches your OWN HAIR COLOUR!! blonde hair is bad because there are so many blondes out there.. i like black hair.. it suites everthing!

  • hey candancer21,

it's babyrack, i just got a new account cuz i didn't like my stupid old one. anyways, thats for the tip! im going to feis in october and buying one there. wayyyy easier than having to get one online! thanks again! :)

  • Amo tus enormes bubis ^^

  • thanks, but you were supposed to be looking at the wig not my cleavage but whatever works for ya! glad it made you happy!

  • I like your informal approach. It's nice.

However, I personally hate the popularity of wigs. I'm in the minority but I think they look silly. Can anybody please explain how they took over the American ID scene? Did a wig wearer 20 yrs ago win a championship and make them popular? ID and Highland is already too expensive. These just add another unnecessary barrier beyond the skill of the dance. There. That's my two cents.

  • I agree with all your points. A wig is convinent but i miss the days of curlers and not having to worry about your air falling off!! the skill of dance is being lost in the world of merchandising!

Thank you so much for your comment, its awesome!

  • Thank you that was really helpful I just got my wig and I was wondering how to PROPERLY put it in!!!

  • i have th same wig as you i think but its brown. and when i put it on with my dance dress i look like a toy doll haha i have to get a new one.

  • haha you might have a way to sell yourself. the new Irish dancing doll!

    Good luck with everything!

  • Thank you! I've had my wig for about two years now I think, and I've never really learned how to put it on properly. I'm going to the Capital Feis in Ottawa tomorrow, and I figured, hey, I should probably figure that out. Very helpful, very informative, and I love your wig! It's gorgeous!

  • Thank you so much for your comments. I know it can be hard but once you get the knack, yout good to go!

  • wat if u have too short hair

  • Thats what im dealing with right now. im going to put a video up about that soon!

    I'll let you know!

  • @irishdancingswift

Gel it up! put aloooooooooooot of it in, then let it dry while holding it or i hang upside off of a chair. then it should be stuck there for a while.... i suggest washing it out asap afterwards

  • Thanks very much for putting up this video. In my training to become a full-fledged "Obsessive Irish Dance Parent" I have found that one of the most difficult things to do is put on my daughter's ID wig. Your video was a great help. Ironically enough, we watched it just before going to the very same feis you were referring to (the Edmonton ISSS feis). That was last weekend. Pretty decent feis, except for the people who kept leaning on the light switches and turning out the lights in mid-dance.

  • I was at that feis!!! agreeeeed!!

  • haha! yeah i mremember that i was in the audiance waiting for my turn to dance and yeah it was quite hilarious,

Do you ahve the Irish Dancer Parent Bumoer sticker?

  • this is perfect!!! great job!!

  • wig sheen reely help keep the wig looking nice

  • I've got the Colleen to and I love it! I've never bothered with curlers, at my first feis, we went straight to the wig vendor. I'd never regret it though. I've gotten so many compliments on my wig and some people find it hard to believe it's wig until I show them!

  • LOL! finally one poster that has the colleen! I love the compliments as well but im starting to hate people that be idiots and try to test if its wig or real

  • Thank you so much- I have a 6 year old with a new wig- had no idea how to put it on- I will pass your advice on to lots of young irish dancers in Northern Ireland

  • that would be awesome!! wish you the best of luck!!

  • great vid. i love the way your so sarcastic :D wigs are so much easier than curlers[: x

  • LMAO!! thank you so much Amen sister.. you have that right...They are more convienant!

  • I Irish dance! Can't afford a wig, though! :) Nice video!

  • THanks!!

  • I lost all my hair due to a medical condition (see my YouTube "Alternatives to wearing a wig"). I do a lot of folk and ballroom dancing and can't stand the way wigs keep body heat on the scalp (and my wig is lightweight and short.) I therefore dance bald. With all respect, I have a hard time understanding why someone who HAS hair would want to do anything as physically active as Irish dancing wearing a wig. I realize it's part of the "look", but isn't it really hot?

  • actually no its not.. theres alot of mesh which allows the wig to breath. And its all about saving your scalp from the torture of curlers and saving your neck when you have to sleep on them.. curlers for curls =8 hours or more... wig for curls.. = 10 min and you can remove it as fast and carry on with your day..

    TTYS

  • awesome video! i love the colleen wig. its soo...big lol. well done and total kudos!

  • Thank you saoirse! Awesome to see ya!

  • Nice Video, i have been a irish dancer for 8 years and i just got my 3rd wig, We had a Megan and it was an asome wig, but got to short for me so now i have the newesr one out the Sinead. Its a double wig and its really nice

  • I have Sinead too! I'm thinking about getting the Darcy, though.

  • i think the wigs are a disgrace,

i think dancers look more grown up if they half long natural hair,

    xx

  • I like having long hair but when you are going from dance to dance as fast as you can you can't worry about your hair wigs are conveinent

  • Most other dance styles manage just fine without wigs. You don't need an enormous mass of curls to look good. Besides, they look fake and tacky. I think they look awful.

My friend had just started a facebook group called "The Irish Dance Anti-Glitz Movement". Anyone who agrees with me please join!

  • Alot of Judges look at that the wigs as well so anything for points but i'll be honest i really miss the dresses when they were more traditonal!

  • @baileymarie86 I do! Hehe. I feel like at the heart of the Irish people is humility and simplicity, and these glitzy dresses and big hair undermine the honesty of the dance. I'm Irish, and my hair is straight as anything. Why does it have to be a massive knot of curls? I'm still Irish with my straight hair, and I like it that way! :P

  • to be honest i didn't think it looked bad at all i think you should rock that even off stage..

  • Hey, cool vid. How long have you been dancing?

  • since i was three 1985

  • wow! you must be really good!

  • i do it differently, i put one giant bun at the top of my head with a donut (aka wig lift)just because i have the nicole wig and my fabric tiara is really tall, so i kinda need that extra height to be able to see my wig over my tiara. i also do the stupid little buns at the back, which always feel so small next to the giant one i have on the top of my head! great vid.!

  • i know the feeling i don't use the spongee.. its not worth it with the height i have in my wig. thank you for your support!!

  • no problem it is a great vid, really helpful for new dancers. and btw, those soft spikes, are the death of me i hate them , they hurt!!!!

  • I have a story for you. when I was young and i had to go on the ferry with my soft spikes in my hair. (i hated soft spikes) So there was a motive here... Front deck top knots and whoopeee... I looked like a white girl with a afro and to see the look on my moms face after my little jaunt.. It was like a mastercard moment.. Priceless!! we converted to wigs after i did that stunt twice more.. and they say that parents have control..

    HMMM!!

  • HAHA, i laughed so hard when i saw that :D

my mom bought my first wig right after she had surgery on her arm because she couldn't put them in anymore. I have the Nicole, it's so nice! i love my wig :) i had to wear it to my high school the other day for a talent show, i got weird looks, and i actually wondered for about 30 minutes why i kept getting weird looks, then it finally hit me, WIGS AREN'T NORMAL FOR NON I-DERS!!! it was hilarious the look on my face :D

  • iwould have totally joined in on that one with you ... lion tigers and bears going down the hall in irish dance wigs..

  • I had 2 other girls in the show with me, but they weren't in my class 1st period, and their friends were used to seeing them in wigs, i guess my friends should see my alter ego more often?

  • You look pretty at the start. But Irish dancing wigs always look like someone's dropped a bowl of macaroni on their head! Or put a sheep on their head!

  • LOL... really now.. bowl of macaroni eh? Hmm well the style of wig differs from company to company.. its a colleeen.. which one do you have

Now about the sheep comment.. thats the first time i hear about it one.

  • You remind me of Sharona from Monk, lol!

  • Seriously? I've never watched the show...

  • :) its a great video and your very funny too ^_^

  • (LOL) Thanks!!

  • Cool video!!

Anyway I'm a selftaugh and I have a wig! so.. haha!!

But just because my hair it's black and short and with a strange look which is not normal to dance with haha

  • thats no issue, great the crap outta it and the get a full wig cap and see what happens!!

  • Chamionship open? I dance in open/prizewinner. :P

  • Verrry pretty tiara! What level do you dance at??

  • good job! although I do it totally different whatever works eh? hahaha too funny!!!!

  • Woot IRISH DANCE IS A SPORT PEOPLE!!
