The "what is that spider hanging from? There's nothing for it to hang from" pretty much sums up the religious mindset. The answer's are there, you're just too lazy to even try to figure them out.
Most people don't want to accept and i know you probably won't either, but when your an atheist you have no peace of mind. You joke about religions and others beliefs to hide you guilt of what you tend to not believe but to tell you this now believing in God and following his words gives you a peace of mind. Deep down everyone believes a little bit.
