? always starting in second? I guess 1st in diesels is pointless eh... Probably geared for towing cause I don't see a low range or a transfer case. It's 4x4 though right? 4x4 all the time? or is there a rear only selector?
@lifeisgood070 the 4x4 selector is on the floor to the left, you can sorta see the handle. They are 4HI/2HI/N/4LO. And 1st is commonly referred to as a "Granny Gear". It is pretty much useless unless you are towing something. Day to day driving it is to short of a gear to start out in.
haha thats funny you have the same technique as me, get in the truck, start it, then lean over and get that wallet out so your not sitting sideways with one sore cheek lol
@juicebox6666 nope, went to all 3 dealers . Gm removed it in 2007 , 2006 last year and not sure about Ford, but unavailable. Stuck with the old trucks and transmission swap until further notice. Write to the marketing people like I did :D
do you like your cummins, im looking at an 05 with the 6 speed. its either this or a duramax. I like the cummins motor as well as the price of the dodge. Its around 8 grand less for the same mileage. damn duramaxs hold value
@gangstacornholieo Manuals on any vehicle are better. They are a lot tougher than autos, as well. I've learned that if you have a truck, say its got 350 HP and 800 lb-ft of torque, and you put an auto tranny in it, you can loose almost half of your power and torque.
@DartzIRL It's because you sit so high up compared to how low the transmission is, so you need the long shifter to reach it. You could put a shorter one and you would have to bend over to shift.
@KLoughreyProductions It's not that. I've got a car with a high driving position and a low floor like that. The gearstick's mounted on the dashboard so it's got a shorter throw.
i drove my friends dads 07 ram dually stick, and it felt pretty easy. hoping to get a 2000 ram diesel stick, do you happen to know if that generation ram is just as easy?
@tozir14 ive driven a 93 5 speed and then my truck. ive never driven a 2nd gen. atleast i think its 2nd gen. i know more about GM's than i do dodges. haha
@tozir14 the 2000's have a weak(er) input shaft on the transmission, if you want to get a 6 speed stock and dont mind the 24 valve over the 12 valve get a 2001 or newer
@tozir14 well the transmissions in the second gen trucks and early 3 gen trucks. have a different trans then friends dads. the older trans are a little more stiffer to shift. but arnt as sloopy as the newer ones. it will be just as easy. ur
Once you learn to drive a stick, you'll easily be able to feel out the clutch. I just started driving not long ago (I'm 16 almost 17), I learned to drive a stick while I had my learners permit, and now I can drive just about anything. Very rarely I will stall, because I dont daily drive a stick (I drive a 99 ram automatic), but you will learn to feek the clutch out
@tozir14 A manual truck is always easier to drive than a car. It doesn't stall, it's got high gear ratio and lots of torque. My point is, if you can drive a manual car you can drive a truck.
@tozir14 i think the 2nd gen was about the same i drove a 2002 for a while, just start in second though first gear is useless unless your pulling somethin
@bobmastaflex Diesel trucks have so much torque so low in the rev range they use less fuel to get up to speed, plus its the fact that its a compression engine vs a combustion engine.
@calboy5858 the truck was averaging about 21.1 before banks 6 gun. now it averages between 22.8 and 23.4. i leave the 6 gun set on level 3 at all times. seems to help the best with the fuel consumption. great truck for fuel economy! better than 15.4 with my silverado

Manuals are better but i like getting oral plesures while driving and you really can't do that when your changing gears every few seconds/minutes

stlchevy95 3 months ago
@stlchevy95 depends on company, age and driving record.

@stlchevy95 gonna be pretty high bc they say a pickup is more "risky" than a car.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the fuel economy?
Maximum777Payne 5 months ago
@Maximum777Payne Depending on certain things (such as mods), they can usually run 18-25 MPG. My 5.9 3500 runs about 20 MPG with light driving.
XxGetSwolexX 5 months ago
@XxGetSwolexX What do you think it would run if I had 150 HP fuel injectors on it?

hi my first truck is gonna be a cummins are manuals bettter than automatics
gangstacornholieo 6 months ago
@gangstacornholieo manuals hold up alot better and its cheaper to put better parts in a manual than an automatic
bradbodigon 5 months ago
@bradbodigon sweet im getting a 2nd gen and im building it to have about 1100hp and its gonna be lifted

@Maximum777Payne usually 25% lost to autotrans, versu 12-15% for a manual. Always buy manual if you want reliability.
