Glen... an Arkansas boy, use to play the Hitching Post in Albuquerque New Mexico when he was a kid... I knew him then as well as his uncle, Dick Bills. Glen one of the best talents to ever sing a note or pick a string!!!!
this was the first non church song I learned to sing- my uncles used to laugh their butts off at me, walking around and waving to the "crowd". But I do still love this song!
I love this-thanks for posting! This song brings back memories from my childhood. I remember one show (don't recall which) where Glen rode out on stage on a white horse, in a white cowboy suit all in rhinestones. As I kid I remember I was thrilled at the site! He was my late darling auntie's favorite idol. :)
When I was in Paris a lady came on the T.V.She seemed to be a well-known star as the crowd gave her a great welcome..She sang a song to "Rhinestone Cowboy" music...but it definitely was not the words to this song.Does anyone know if music was used for other lyrics.I know that someone will email me saying that she was singin' same song, but in French...no..any other ideas ??
Back in the 70s I was a truckie and loved listening to this song in my B double. I used to go to the all the ranch houses on the highway and feast on roast chicken while I downed a few beers for the road. Many times, this song was playing in the background as I sat at the bar, taking a good look at that waitress in a mini skirt while I feasted on burgers, chicken drumsticks and a big glass of beer with a touch of whiskey. Those were the days -Regular paychecks, ranch meals and blonde hookers.
Thanks Glen Campbell for filling my grandmother, my mother and my childhood with your music.
