Hopefully, things are going well with you and your deaf dog. The video is few yrs old, and bet he knows many hand signs now? Hearing is only one way he communicates and no reason you can' treat him just like any other dog....just using a bit more caution when necessary. My deaf Aussie knows at least 60 hand signs and I don't even work with too much. Regards. N.

I had 2 grown Danes when I got the deaf pups and they took to them real good --truth is I sometimes forget they are deaf. Cry babies! There's nothing wrong being DEAF! Geez, get a life! I'm Deaf! We had a Deaf Blue Heeler, he lived up to 16 years! Teach your dogs sign language, same wording you say to your dogs such as "sit, stay, heel, hungry? wanna go outside? etc., etc., etc., - they'll understand!!!!!!!!!!!

@losergoescrazy fantastic response...not trying to compare humans to animals in any capacity but my boyfriend is Deaf, he is a hardworking, funloving, salsa dancing, animal lover whom I enjoy spending time with. There is no sadness in his life, he does not hear my voice but there is not limit to our ability to understand eachother. There are ways to enjoy, train, and love a deaf dog...better yet, there are a million ways to love and enjoy just about anything and anyone! =) Love is limitless=)

Deaf or Hearing Puppies can understand sign languages so you should learn how to speak to your deaf puppy in sign languages like sit up, lay down, play, nature call, walk stay out etc, it does listens ! I have so many deaf friends with pets dogs, they use sign languages to command or inform their pets dogs.

You know what? I have same dog like you (he's 2 years old, Boston Terrier) I am deaf and he's not! *LOL* I love him to death! i love my little dog. he's about a year old now and he's so wonderful!

he's REALLY smart and pretty much always knows what we want of him, even though we haven't taught him any hand signals directly. =) we do a lot of really routine things when we're about to take him out for a walk, and he knows 'where's the toy?' means to search for his toy, and he knows 'drop it' and 'sit' and a bunch of stuff. training him was so much easier than i thought it would be!!

his name is barabbas. he's a demon, lol, and he doesn't really make a lot of noises.

we have a non-deaf boston terrier that sounds like a pig like.. 90% of the time! he snorts and makes horrible noises. heeeee sleeps kind of stiff, but the deaf ones curls up in a little tiny ball and pushes his flat face down against the floor.
