...since when is the 4501 running at dolly wood and numbered 70 ... and why did dollywood go standard gauge and paint 4501 like that and give her that whislte and bell :P
I like the new look. Just from listening to the sound of the whistle, its obvious that it is a Powell 3 chime. Its not as powerful as an IC steamboat whistle, but its still powerful for a shortbell 3 chime.
#70's whistle in this video sounds like the one off of Nevada Northern #40... and I'm not sure why they changed her apperance either... she looked fine in her previous look...
I guess I'll be the odd ball here and say I love the new look. It represents what a southeastern engine should look like. I know she's not a southeastern loco but she still looks good this way. I never have liked those big ballon stacks in the first place.
Well so much for the 31 day turnaround. #70 is back in for re-inspection after a brief time out. Might possibly see her out again by end of year, more likely next season opening.
I was there today and asked about engine 70 and the crew told me they hope to have her out next week. I think they are planning to run her again this season because her smokebox cover is not sitting outside the shop anymore and normally if they have the cover outside that means that they are doing some major work to the engines. We will see though.
Ok. I think now that they do have them both functional that they will keep them in the best running condition. I wish they would start some type of restoration fund for engine 71. I have sent a couple of emails to dollywood in regards about the ride, as well as restoring 71. It would take about 500K to restore her if the train crew did all the work which they are capable of doing. Nice video and keep on posting them. I will send you my video that I made a couple of weeks ago.
I was rather amazed my Canon Elph took this video. I normally shoot with a Canon HD at 1080i, but the little Canon Elph took a decent SD video and still is a good micro camera as well.
Running each engine for a month and alternating. Since both are fully functional. They have been much more gentle on both engines since the 70# was taken down for a while. I notice they don't blast up the hill like they had been and they drain the cylinder cocks more frequently.
Wish they would stick the steamboat whistle back.
Would be neat to start a donation box to restore Miss Beatrice, #71. I would drop some cash in each visit. I'm sure rail fans everywhere would.
I could ask a few guys I know that work there, if it could be a possibilty...Beatrice deserves to run just as much if not more than the others, she has sat there long enough.
I mentioned how Miss B being the 30th Anniversary DollyWood Express would be a nice event. Or maybe 35th anniversary depending on how long it would take to raise the funds. Have you seen the images of #71 being assembled?

So anyway, Pete may or may not receive my message. I know you can find him over in the coaster and park chat rooms. I would donate what I could, no strings attached of course, just to contribute to seeing her with steam again. This would also make DollyWood a truly historic park as well, with three white pass engines.
I wish they would restore her to the way she was with the WPYR Im guessing like 73 whos on home rails.

It looks fair. Reminds me more of a southern railway loco.

Wow, definitely a different look for an ex-White Pass mike; I'm not sure if I like it better, but it doesn't look bad.

What did they mean by a 31 day turn around?
