God....listening to early Opeth will always have a certain effect on me, unmatched by anything else in this universe. it's at once both a tragedy and an honor that so relatively few people will ever appreciate this band (more so, Orchid and Morningrise) for what it really is: pure genius...raw, unforgiving, unbridled, darkly beautiful art...
@MidnightNaomi Morningrise for me is just a unique piece of art for real, by far their best album in my opinion, I just love it. Honestly I love all of their albums, I think their new stuff is differently good aswell
I'm a big prog, power, and classic metal fan and a little death metal (Death is really the only band I like of that catagory). I'm just getting into Opeth... They have such a unique sound.
Opeth wouldn't be as good as they are if they didn't have progressive, jazz, blues, and folk music influences incorporated into their metal. Think about it, have you ever heard another band you can compare to Opeth? Because I have listened to way too much progressive metal and death metal and no other band has even come close
Johans bass style was greatly influenced by swedish folk music. The whole band, even the whole old melodeath style, was heavily influenced by folk, but it was particularily distinctive in Johans playing. It was awesome!!!
My favorite Opeth track (seriously). An absolutely beautiful, complex, and overlooked song. 8:03 to 8:53 is probably my favorite bit of any Opeth song out there. Wish this one received more attention.
Same, I've had this stuck in my head for days, and can't stop listening to it. Have to say I love the duo-acoustics at 6:50, then that bass coming in... epic.
Whoa! He's wearing a Vlad the Impaler long sleeved Shirt at 1:36 I think in Ghostbusters 2 they took the character "Dracula" and turned him into "Viggo the Carpathian"....the sorrow of Maldavia! I sit on a throne of Skulls in the hall of Blood! Or maybe Viggo and Vlad were in completely separate parts of old Romania and were enemies! anybody know?
i saw an interview with akerfeldt saying this his least favourite song of them all ..well i love it .and also i wish they would perform black rose immortal live coz they havent i dont think yet i kno its a difficult song opeth is what changed my evolution of music listening
I will have to say that I prefer Johan's style on the bass more then Mendez. Mendez is still very talented, but Johan seemed to have a way with really adding more depth to the songs as opposed to just grooving along with it.
Yeah..Johan is such an innovative player with the craziest bass lines ever. And his work with the 6 string bass on "To Bid You Farewell" is soooo amazing
I get chills everytime i hear the "I will always love you" part. Johan DeFarfalla has some of my favorite basslines ever, sometimes it's really strange but its always innovative!! Morningrise is amazing.
Is impossible to find morningrise album any retail store around my hometown :'( so far they got ghost reveries, watershed and se. Guess i have no choice to buy at ebay then.
@empirejazzband It does exist! Check my videos, I don't mean to whore my account out and I really don't care about the views. I just want fellow Opeth fans to be as happy as I was when I heard Apostle in Triumph and Nectar live :D
An epic love song in the form of black metal

@Lysertheshaman You're so right! It sounds almost exactly as the start of Grand Conjuration.

His tone isn't ironic at all!
He is pouring out his heart in sorrow and despair.
Can't you hear how his growling in pain?
Love this song btw, one of my favourite love songs! So much passion. :)
